I have been thinking about buying all 5 of the US PS2 systems off of Sony's website and I was curious what your opinions on the future values of these units will be. I want to buy them and I doubt that I will ever even open them. I am curious if you all think that these may be sought after a few years down the road... or maybe even longer. If so would they command at least the $315 price they are asking for them? Just curious what your opnions are. Thanks in advance for your input!

IMO, not worth it. If you're looking to make an investment and resell them for a profit somewhere down the road, you'd do better elsewhere (banking stuff even).
My take is that the people who would really want them, nay, *need* them years down the road will be ordering them right now. So the audience for resale value would be low, since other than the color, there's not much in the way of the "wow" factor.
My two zenny. :-D

Only worth doing if you can get them at regular retail value. $100+ for colored plastic is a bad investment. Now if that plastic was, say, Titanium.. I'd buy that for $325.

I wasn't planning on buying them as an investement. I just want to be able to get what I would be paying back out of them if I would ever decide to sell them. Just don't want to buy items that are that expensive and turn around in a couple years and people aren't even willing to shell out $150 for them. Are there any examples of consoles that did the same thing that can be used as a point of reference?

What kind of premium do specially coloured N64 decks command? That may give you an idea.

Or that *rare* Green Dreamcast that was on eBay not too long ago.

Then don't buy any of them, there's a 95% chance that you wouldn't even get $100 for them if you ever decided to sell.

And the thought that there are how many million PS2's out there(wya more than N-64's). I would think if a PS3 played PS2/1 games then any PS2 resale would be pretty low.
You know custom car shops that do interiors have been putting colored PS2s in cars for awhile now, i wonder how much they would charge.
Does that site still have all the colors for more than the individual cost combined still?

LOL, no they removed that combined cost all together. Thanks for your opinions so far guys. Part of me wants to spend the money and part of me says not too. Still not sure... Ah well. I could probably use a new TV over those anyways ~_^

Yeah....serious doubt on there being some actual value. They're not quite the same as a novelty item like the S.T.A.R.S. Biohazard Dreamcasts or the Regular Biohazard Dreamcasts, or the Panzer Dragoon Orta XBox. All of those had EXTREMELY limited runs and appeal to the fans of the series. These are just different colored systems. In the past, that color difference has never mattered on a US console. Colored Game Boys (original) don't sell for more, colored Game Boy Pocket or GBCs don't sell for more, colored N64s or DCs don't sell for more, so I doubt funny colored (and somewhat godawful) colored PS2s would ever sell for more. Chance are they'll lose their value just like black ones.

Aren't the colored ones limited runs on the PS2? I though they were quite limited. Something like 500 of each or 999 all together of all colors.

It would be cheaper to buy spray paint... The coloured PS2s will never go up in price... nothing like that ever does... If someone could buy a PS2 for 50 bucks down the road why would someone pay 300 dollars more for a coloured one. Thats the way I think of it. Just my opinion.
