Currently, this title is still held by Battletoads vs. Double Dragon, but can you think of any other pairs of video game stars that would go about as well together as peanut butter, chocolate, and ketchup?
I think Bomberman vs. Mighty Bomb Jack would make a pretty awful game. Bomberman plants explosives, while Mighty Bomb Jack picks them up and diffuses them. Or how about Pressure Cooker vs. Burgertime? Short Order Sam slaves away making burgers, and Peter Pepper ruins all his hard work by stepping all over them.
Some video game characters just don't belong together. It's up to you to decide just which ones should be kept apart.

I think the travesty of Shaq-Fu (Shaq + Kung Fu) was about the worst I can think of :)

You did not just say Battletoads/Double Dragon was bad in any way shape or form. I'd say it's the sweetest crossover ever made, and a great game in its own right.
Wario Blast was a dumb crossover, but it was sweet too. I mean, it was Bomberman, but with Wario!

Micheal Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City was just as bad.
Battletoads/Double Dragon combined Tradewest's 2 best series which were roughly the same thing.
Double Dragon- fist pounding martiala rts action.
Battletoads- fist pounding action (w action stages thrown in like the Speeder Bikes level).
Sure it's cliche now when 2 major series villians team up to fight both sets of heros, but back then that cliche was still pretty new, so to speak.

Oh come on, Kaine, you've got to be kidding me. Just because two games have similar gameplay does not mean that they'd go well together. The Battletoads and Double Dragon just clashed so badly because the games had such entirely different artistic directions. Battletoads were tounge in cheek, while Double Dragon was dead serious. Battletoads was designed in Great Britain, while Double Dragon was produced in Japan. Battletoads was way over the top with its attacks, while Double Dragon was much more conservative. It was an ill-conceived team up and I stand by that opinion.
Wario Blast is a pretty good example of a dumb crossover. I mean, Wario? Bomberman? Where are the similarities? What on Earth do they have in common? It just felt like Nintendo was trying to shoehorn Wario into a game that clearly could not accommodate him.

I like Battletoads / Double Dragon too, never felt any kind of clash there. It's a fun game, and I like seeing the two series crossover.
I've gotta agree with Maxlords, Shaq Fu was a truly horrific mix and one of the worst games I've ever played.
