Predictions? Mayhaps I should pre-order PS3 and Revolution now. PS3 for ebay profit & Revolution for me!

How to guarantee I get 'em? Don't want to pre-order a console & not get it. Many X360 preorders customers got nothing.

The earilier you preorder, the better your chances of getting one in the first shipment.

Most console launches have shortages. I was thinking about doing the same thing. You can never be certain about how many of the new "it" item they will have in stock though.

It seems there was less time between the 360's design going gold and consoles scheduled to appear on shelves than Microsoft needed. Thus the first gen titles are single-threaded, and back in August, The Blackfriars Blog noted that IBM was only able to produce 30,000 chips per month for a while. All rather ironic, really. (http://www.blackfriarsinc.com/blog/2005/11/xbox-360-shortage-complaints-begin.html)

That said, no, there won't likely be a chip shortage for the PS3, as the Cell design is pretty much finalized (far as I'm aware), and at least two manufacturers (IBM and Sony) can produce them. Nintendo is subject to the same issues of relying on third parties to produce their components, but I believe Nintendo isn't likely to push for a very aggressive launch schedule and has budgeted to allow their manufacturer and software developers more time to work with the system.

You never wanna put all your eggs in one basket with one single run large enough for everyone. What if there is a recall?

Microsoft has flat out stated they introduced the shortage on purpose.

That aside. The PS3 isn't going to be released pre-holiday AFAIK, so I don't see any REAL shortage happening. That and the fact that the system just ISN'T going to move as fast at $500+

The revolution? Who knows, depends when they release it. Nintendo isn't one for short-changing their customers though. If they don't have enough consoles, they just won't release it yet (gee what a concept)

Source? I don't believe that. I think MS manufactured as many as they could - they just ran out of time.

I remember that as well.

I remember that. Microsoft's trying to explain away the fact that there are shortages as a result of their too-aggressive schedule; from what I hear eBay prices are still highly inflated so any plan to stagger the release of units has failed. Their plan, from what I understand, is to release units in smaller groups so it is more likely that a person venturing into a game store will be there when a 360 is on hand...

Source for your release date prediction, and price?

Well I doubt the system will be any more than the same price as for a 360

so really saying it will be 500+ is alot premature.

It's not confirmed but very very likely the ps3 will release for more than the xbox 360. Kuturagi has stated it's going to be very expensive over and over. I can't ever recall any other company flat out PUSHING the fact that it will be "so expensive"
