Got my butt handed to me on Mario Kart DS

I get whipped all the time on wifi but it's still a good time. I don't know many tips but the quick start thing is fairly easy to do. Just hit the gas (A) right when the "2" in "3-2-1" is about to disappear.

I'd also like to know what you guys/gals think is the best character/vehicle combos. Just last night, I unlocked ROB and all of the karts so can now use any combination.

why don't people read the manual nowadays? as soon as i noticed they changed the dash start routine from Double Dash ! and i couldn't figure it out i checked the manual, it clearly states how to do it (philo above already said how it works).

apart from that, i guess you really need to make use of the power slide thingy, you know, where you hit left,right,left,right... while sliding until your sparks go red and give you an extra boost after the slide.

shortcuts, well, most are pretty obvious, the gba cloud track has a lot of them, you need a mushroom to do them, basically there's one LONG u-turn corner with a wall in the middle that you can cut off by jumping over a gap using the mushroom in front of a ramp(?)

I'd race right now, but I'm at work. I did however race during lunch, that was a lot of fun. I'm not complaining about the losses, I just flat out SUCK at this.

I've heard the dry bomber is really good for "snaking" that is, power slide boosting on straightaways, which is hard as hell to do.

I personally believe Yoshi/Luigi in the Poltergust has the best Speed/Acceleration ratio, and I see most of the double stared, snaking players using this combo.

I gotta look into a new router for home use. I'm a mac user and I got a router 2 weeks ago. Then it was incompatable as of this week. What a pisser.

He was in a bookstore with Jerry and had to go to the can so grabbed a book to pass the time. Upon exiting, one of the workers caught him and he ended up having to buy the book. Not really wanting the expensive book, he thought he would just return it when someone else is working but the store flagged it in the system that it has entered a bathroom.

I love Seinfeld too, I believe I've seen them all now but I still check everytime I'm channel surfing in hopes of catching one I've never seen.

Luigi or Waluigi in their own normal karts is probably the best balance. Dry Bones in the Dry Bomber has low speed, but incredible recovery acceleration from being hit by weapons.

One way to upset the snakers? Pick Rainbow Road or Baby Park. They don't have anywhere to wiggle there now ;)

(and yes I royally fucked up the first snaker I've had online by getting those courses picked LOL )

Current record: 9-4 (and three of those losses were on the finish line chaos)

Tomorrow I am going to Fry's to pick up a (I hope) router that's compatable to both the DS and my mac. I hate fry's but they have great prices. Just getting in there in and out never happens and it's difficult to get any help that speaks English as a first language let alone any macintosh knowledge. I'm not a bigot by any stretch but I hate repeating a question and saying "what was that again?" for the umteenth time because their accent is a little thick. That's my soapbox of the night sorry.

I use rob with his standard cart, he has a very high top speed.

as for tips,

1.put bannana peels behind hills and stuff so people wont see them untill its too late.
2.you can block red shells with banana peels.
3.most maps have a shortcut but some you can only use with a mushroom (or you will go slow, or fall down a hole etc).
4.pick a heavy cart that has a high top speed, they may accelerate slow but theres more room for impovement over a cart that starts fast but has a slow top speed.
5. in a 1v1 its pretty easy to win, just stay in second place the entire game, get one good item and use it at the very end.
6.if you unlock any staff ghosts they pretty much use all the shortcuts so just play them on a couple maps to learn the shortcuts.


well thats all i can think of right now, i havent even played much lately so maby ill think up some more.

If I'm playing someone who's really really obviously new, I like to stop and make them catch up :) More fun that way.

There was this one time it got so bad I just drove backwards on the track and tried to head on with him. I'm sure he freaked out when he saw me drive past him in the opposite direction LOL

I'm having problems getting hooked up with other gamers online. They light up, then drop out. It takes me about 5 minutes or more to get at least one regional matchup. Nintendo says it's a firewall problem. I did put in a WEP encryption and manually typed in my setting on the DS. It didn't help. I am on a mac, which means I'm unix based, however I have no earthly idea about any firewall issues or anti-virus software. I enjoy the racing but, this is giving me a headache.
