Those 100, 500 or 1000-in-1 controllers are bootlegs from Hong Kong and are very cheaply made. The "hundreds" of games are usually the same 50 or so games recycled.

Depends if we're talking proper licenced units, like the Radica Megadrive pad jobbies, or a dodgy Famiclone that looks like an N64 pad and has several squillion built-in games.

If we're going for the Radicas yeah, they're pretty cool if you just wanna have a blast at some old MD games. The first version of the Radica (blue) has Sonic, Altered Beast, Golden Axe,Kid Chameleon, Dr.Robotnik?s Mean Bean Machine, and Flicky on it. The red second version contains Sonic 2, Echo the Dolphin, Gain Ground, The Ooze, Columns and Alex Kid & The Enchanted Castle. There's also the 2 player version featuring Street Fighter 2 and Ghouls n' Ghosts. Oh, and there's various EA sports ones.

Like I said, not bad for a quick blast, if that's all you're interested in. You never know, you might eventually fancy getting a 'real' MD and a stack of carts :)

As for unlicenced plug n' play style Famiclones, it can be very hit and miss. Some aren't too bad (as Famiclones go) and some even have a NES/Fami cart socket, so you can use real carts. Which is preferable to playing the very often dodgy and glitchy built-in games (or game, repeated several squillion times, depending). Tbh, if you're going for a Famiclone I'd get a proper console style one, such as the Fam[i/u]lator, or one of the YoBo FCs. Then if you want to taste what the 'built-in' games would be like, just get a Gazzillion-in-1 HK pirate cart.

There's other official PnP units out there, some based on Fami-on-a-chip, others based on Genny-on-a-chip and I've no idea what's in these new ones that have gloves and stuff, like the Batman/Spiderman one.

Here's a thread that may help you.

The Unofficial TV Plug-n-Play Game Systems Thread! (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=28509)

Covers mostly official release items. The problems with those 100+ packages is this... Most games have serious graphical, control and sound problems. They are definately a cheap alternative, but you get what you pay for. You may want to try emulation, though I don't really know too much about that subject.

If you're talking about unofficial ones then what Neil Koch mentioned pretty much sums it up. They usually have the same old games such as Mario Bros, Tetris, Kung Fu, Donkey Kong, etc...

However if you're talking about official ones, then there's those by Sega which is basically a Megadrive controller with 6 built in games. I can only recall it had games such as Sonic 2, Golden Axe and Kid Chamelon.
There's also a two controller package which has Street Fighter II as one of its games.

Namco too has a retro system like this for its older classic titles. I have absolutely no idea what games are on it but the system looks like a joystick with a button or two.

You'd think people would read other replies before posting, otherwise it all gets a bit repetative.

thanks for replying. I didn't see the (plug N' play) systems thread, sorry  . I guess I'll go with a full fami-clone unit.... besides.. it's so fun blowing on the nes carts in anticipation to playing your favoite game LOL
Only problem is most of the famiclones aren't 100% compatable are they? I checked out the messaih nEX but from waht I hear it sucks bit time. I'll look into the yobo FC.

Thanks
Richard
