I'd heard a lot about this game, but had never played it. I was lucky enough to find a copy at a flea market last summer, but I never got around to playing it until now.

All I can say is, wow, this game is addicting. And it's surprising, too, as I can just be sailing around fighting random ships and still having fun. The battles are still exciting, even though they are pretty drawn-out and slow, compared to other games.

I'm going to have to look up a good FAQ for the game, as I'm not entirely sure yet what the ten pirate quests are, but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying the game. Got to love open-endedness... I logged a zillion hours into Morrowind and still have no idea what the main quest was supposed to be.

im assuming your playing pirates gold on the genesis

that is an awsome game -- ive been on the look out for it on the genesis (for a cheap price) -- i am realy curious how it plays on the system -- ive played it on PC and with a mouse the ship battles are easy to control -- i was wondering if the genesis mouse could be used to play this game on the system

it was realy my first exposure to a game that had you dableing in a little bit of politics

Yep, playing on the Genesis. The controls seem a bit slow, but I bet it probably would be easier with a mouse.

I'm surprised I missed this on the PC... I was much more up on PC games at that time than I was with consoles.

There's also a port of Pirates! Gold for the CD32. If you line in Europe you can find a CD32 and a copy of the game quite easily. If you live in the Stes you can still get a copy of the game, but the NTSC 32CD really isn't worth the money IMHO. The PAL game runs just fine of the NTSC CD#@, however, so if you have one you should pick the game up!

You can also use an Amiga mouse with it I'm told.

:D

I was actually curious about how the CD32 version of Pirates Gold would run on an NTSC CD32. Been in the market for one of these machines for awhile now. Mainly for this game. (I'm a Pirates junkie)

Both the original (Pirates!) and Pirates! Gold are a blast. And in case you missed it, an updated version titled Sid Meier's Pirates! was released for the Xbox and PC this year.

It runs fine on mine; however, I run everything through a projector which converts PAL to NTSC, so you might have different results.

Ya, this is one of my favorite games of all time. Never played it on the Genesis though.

The Genesis version of Pirates is known by many fans of the original game to be the best port of the original Pirates. I actually bought a Genesis just for Pirates... well that and Shadowrun. I am a or at least was a Nintendo-only guy. Not anymore.

It runs fine on my NTSC machine, no convertor.

Hey Flack... Do PAL games that normally just make a NTSC TV's screen roll work ok with a convertor?
