How many times have you had a console die on you or gotten rid of a console only to pick it up later?
I sold off my Atari Lynx to save up for an Atari Jaguar and Tempest 2000.
I later sold my first Atari Jaguar, pissed off that Checkered Flag Sucked and Doom crashed, and picked up a Genesis and 32X.
I later picked up another Jaguar and the CD attachment. I also later picked up another Lynx setup only to sell it off to get a Neo Geo Pocket Color.
I sold my Playstation when I got a PS2, but later picked up a chipped PSOne to play imports...
I also got rid of my Colecovision Carts after my Coleco Died, but Picked up another Coleco Years Later...
What about you?
Cheers,
Ben

when i was a teen...or should i say, when i was dumb...i use to sell of systems and games to get what was new..Only to find myself a month or two later getting that same system back...now keep in mind this was the 80s and early 90s...so prices were not that bad..

from the age of 4-6 I compltely burnt out an NES and got another one. Then burned that one out and got a third one. Flash forward to the SNES, burned through two of those in its prime. I've had 2 PSX's, 4 PS2's and 2 gamecubes. Every gameboy variation multiple times and 2 GBA's. 1 N64.
And throughout all of that I traded in newer systems for older ones again.

I've had a couple of SegaCDs die on me that ended up getting replaced (thank god Toys R Us was dumping new ones at like $20.. I grabbed 2 of them, and the second of which still functions on the rare occasions that I decide to use it instead of an emulator). No idea why I have so many extra genesis units, though. I think I have like 1 model 1 and 3 model 2s.
Sometimes I'll buy multiple systems just for convenience. Before I knew how to replace NES connectors, I used to buy NES toasters for $5-$10 a pop and just leave one game in there at all times. The most I had hooked up at once was 6, and they were all full (though I only remember River City Ransom, Super Dodgeball, and Dragon Warrior IV being in there... the other 3 I can't remember at all). Othertimes I'll buy multiple systems just so I can have one hooked up to each tv in the house (I've had 3 SNES decks hooked up throughout the house at once before).
Then I bought a few extra Saturns, but I really don't remember why. I never have more than just a US and Japanese one hooked up at any one time, so the extra Japanese and US decks are either stored away or I let my little brother borrow them.
Gave away my original japanese PS2 only to buy a new PS2 years later when Dodonpachi Daioujou came out. Then I bought a US one just because I couldn't stand seeing a friend sell it to gamestop or ebgames and get fucked over.
I'm also a member of the "got rid of a TG16". I had a Turbo Duo R that I didn't use much and the CD Rom was flakey at best, so I sent it off to an emulator author in france so he'd have something to play with along with a box of games. The box of games got sent back because the postal workers were on strike or something and the Duo R got smashed to fuck before it got to him, so the only thing he got out of it was the SF2:CE HuCard I left in the system as a surprise while I lost out on a shit load of money from shipping from Japan :(
edit - oh, and i'm pretty sure a buncha those extra systems are from when I got deployed somewhere and needed something to play. The first time I got deployed to Thailand, I ended up picking a modded PAL PS1 so I could play some games in my down time, despite having two NTSC PS1s back in Japan :(

Whenever Atari brought out a new system, I got rid of the old one so...
I bought another Atari 2600 when I learned of this newfangled thing called the internet...
Not long after that, I also got my second Atari 5200.
I sold my Nintendo 64 on Ebay...eventually, I bought another and then traded for yet another.
Sold away my Saturn and eventually got another...that was like extracting teeth. I got it via Ebay but the guy I bought it from took something like two months to send it to me. And after all that, I still don't play it much.
There are other systems I've bought more than once but just for back-up systems...I still had my original consoles when I bought those and thus these don't fit into the topic here.

Dreamcast.
Why? Because it's the god damn Dreamcast. Everybody should have atleast 3 of these in their homes.
Or else.

Oh god, I'm terrible at this....I've had at least 4 or more of the same system over the years
I have had a horrible habit of selling and re-buying the same system every single year
Yet! After 7 years of doing that (1998 till now)...I can proudly say that 2005 has been a damn good year to me...I have only sold spare duplicate systems and kept the ones I like for myself.
I'm trying so hard to break out of this cycle, because it kills me to see another system that was personally mine, heading out the door..

I've done this with so many times with so many systems.
Last year I pre-ordered a DS and sold it a week after launch. Then my dad sold me his ,dirt cheap I might add, and I turned around and sold it off. Nearly a year after the DS launch I picked up my 3rd DS. I have yet to get rid of it and do not plan on selling it any time soon.

My 5200, NES and Genesis from my childhood were stored up in the attic for god knows how long because they were glitchy and we had the PSX and didn't need the other systems (or so my parents thought) When we moved and cleaned out the attic, a lot of stuff went out the door, including those systems. I am praying that she was smart enough to either sell them or at least give them away and didn't throw them away. I'd be able to sleep better if she did. I wish I had known ahead of time, I would've salvaged them somehow. But because of this, I had to rebuy an NES, and I would've rebought a Genny but I salvaged a perfectly good one out of the GameStop trash in the short 2 weeks I worked there. I haven't rebought a 5200 yet but I probably will (my friend Chris might be buying me a 2600 for XMas, since my boyfriend won't share his LOL)
I also bought the NES Edition GBA SP even though I had a platinum simply because it was the NES edition. I gave my sister the platinum, although my mom's the one who actually uses it (despite my sister writing her name in Sharpie on the top of it LOL) to play Ms Pac-Man and Texas Hold 'Em. My boyfriend and his brother both have 2 SPs each (just in case one's low on batteries. Or maybe one for home games and one for away games LOL)
Other than that, all the systems I have are the first ones I've owned, finally claiming the items I was denied as a child. GRR.

I have owned 3 Xboxes, 3 PS2s (soon to be 4), 3 Gamecubes (one of which I gave to my friend), innumerable Dreamcasts, 4 or 5 N64s, 6 or 7 Genesis systems, and a boatload of other stuff.
To put it straight, systems pass through my hands very quickly. I'll keep them for a year, sell it, get a new one sixth months later, repeat. Depends on what I want at the time.

Owning multiple consoles is one thing, but as far as re-purchasing a system to compensate for its absence in one's life, I've done it twice, both in 1994: I bought an Atari 2600 at Goodwill to replace the one my parents sold in 1988. That same year I was gifted for Christmas by my brother with a new Model I Gameboy to replace one I left some months prior at a relative's home; said relative insisting on making me jump through all manner of undignified hoops if I ever wanted it back.
Every other console I've ever acquired since then is either still in my possession or was a duplicate for one reason or another, i.e. - spares, trades and sales.

I had to re-buy a SNES. When the N64 came out, I got it and that made my Dad think I didn't wan't/need my SNES.
So I come home from school one day to find my SNES missing and I find out that my Dad shipped it (with all my games) to my cousins in Mexico.
At least I've re-bought everything that was gone. Still makes me kinda angry but at least my poor cousins now have and play (I saw it when I visited Mexico) the awesomeness that is the Super Nintendo.

I'm on my 4th PS1. 2 crapped out... sold one... rebought a PSone a few years ago, still have it.
Rebought the PS2. Sold the old chuncky model that constantly burped up DRE's and applied the credit to a new slim.
Still have my first Gamecube, N64 and SNES. Years back my NES went all blinky and got dissected... what can I say? I'm a tinkerer. Found a blinky NES at a thrift a little over two years ago for $5... bought it, fixed the blink, have had it ever since.
Kept my Streets of Rage 2 bundle Genny (model 1) it rests on top of my (tray model) SegaCD. I've had a CDX, which I sold and a 32x I gave to a good friend. Keeping a Gen 3 in storage... just in case. I'll be getting another CDX... someday. My original Saturn was stepped on and destroyed by none other than myself... I no longer place my systems on the floor due to that misstep. The Dreamcast is still chugin' along... I'm looking for a spare though in case the drive conks. (I've heard it happens)
I can't honestly remember what went with my 2600... maybe alien visitors came and took it?! lol
I've had 2 SNES systems. When my original one died,my parents got me a new one shortly after and I still have it to this day.
My original PS1 died and my brother gave me his, I recently had to buy a PS0 because Persona 2 wouldn't work on the other one.
My family has had countless NES systems over the years, all eventually died and I recently got a Top Load off of e-bay.
We've also have had several Ataris over the years and the two remaining do not work.
My brothers Master System burnt out because he thought it was smart to try and plug a Nintendo ac adapter in it. My parents got him a new one some time later.

TG16+Turbo CD when NEC call it quits in the U.S i gave up on the system and traded it away. Then afther so many years i miss playing it so i pick up a CoreGrafx+SuperCD-Rom2.
Now here's the mess up part the SuperCD-rom2 breaks  on me.So guess what... i ended up getting a Duo-R :embarrassed:

I bought a TG-16 when it first came out for over $500 with three games and the booster, then returned it about a week later because I spent too much. I bought it again when they were on clearance for $30 with 2 games included. Booster was $10 more.
In 1993, I had to sell off my NES + 16 games and my Genesis + 8 games because my roommate couldn't pay his share of the rent the last month of the lease. I got back into NES collecting in 1996 when a customer of mine at TRU gave me her son's old unit with 22 games and 3 extra controllers. I repurchased the Genesis at about the same time.
I have multiples (49) of many systems. Dreamcast is the only system where I have multiples of the same exact unit - 1 white, 1 sports black and 3 rental units ($11.99 complete with hard cases). Except for that, all of the mulitples are variants, especially the Game Boy Color, which I have 10 different variants and a store display.

I wouldnt know where to start, throught the years I have regrettably traded/sold/REbought and even given away many great game systems :( I was much to generous in giving a few of them away before I got married  but I learned my lesson on how far generousity gets you in this world :/
Anyway here goes what I can remember:
NES- 3 of these systems One sold the others traded
Genesis- 3 or 4 of these first one destroyed at a party the other traded and sold the Genesis 3 for some stupid reason
Snes-at least 2 of these systems one sold one trade with a friend to get a 3DO :/
3DO-two first one I was renting to own second I trade for a turbographix-16=best trade I ever made :)
Turbographix-16-first one I got when I traded a bunch of SNES games for it and the second I bought new wich I think I ended up giving away to a family one Christmas that didnt have much to give to thier kids
Saturn- first I bought new for the 99$ bundle sold it to go in for a new Dual Shock PSX when I already had a PSX just should have bought the damn controller :shameful: and the second wich I still have I got for $6 U.S. in a thriftshop with only one contoller and no hookups DAMN I MISS MY SATURN :help:
PSX- 4 of these first one overheatet but still works from what ive been told second was traded to upgrade to a dualshock system and the other 2 I bought used and cleaned/repaired them to sale for a profit
Dreamcast-3 of these little gems the first I sold then rebought a brand new one when Walmart put them on clearance (still have that one 8-) ) and another that I bought at a Pawnshop for a measly 12$ that the clerk thought was a "Genesis" cleaned it up and repaired it used it for about a year then sold it to a friend
PS2- 4 of these sold one for need to pay bills the others sold or traded to upgrade to a newer version
Gamecube- 2 of these first I left with my kids after divorce but the second wich was the Metroid bundle I should still have but on a drunken weekend.......ah its a long story x_x
Xbox- 3 of these the my original was a Thomson drive model wich always worked but had some major LOUD noises coming out of it HELL IT EVEN SCARED MY DREAMCAST LOL I trade it to get a new one and the other I dont really remember what happened to it or dont care to remember
Out of all those great game systems the ONLY ones I got left are my new Slimline PS2 and My trusty second Dreamcast system that I got in early 2001 and a core Saturn unit with only ONE controller pad and NO games :(
I sold off my original Sega Genesis years ago. I regret it to this day. Since then, I've bought the Genesis 2 and Genesis 3.

I re-purchased a Snes because I traded it in for a PS1 back in 96 from Funcoland. I found a mini Snes in the pawnshop for 20 bucks.
I re-purchased a PS2 because I sold the other one so I could get my computer fixed.
