Which do you prefer for fighting games, a pad or a stick?

actually i prefer the pad. its hard to find an arcade controller that replicates the ones in the arcade. plus its kinda uncomfortable having an arcade controller sit in your lap when you play.
i cant wait until i can get a dedicated mvs system.

It's been proven that you can do moves faster and such on a stick then on a pad.
I personally set the stick in front of me, rather then on my lap, whenever possible.

The SNES pad is probably the best fighting game pad in the wold. I used to wish that street fighter had a snes controller port on it to in the arcade. But of course I was forced to learn on a stick.
The baseball bat stick is by far the best of the arcade sticks out there. The only time I like a ball stick is when I'm playing miss pac man or galaga.

I voted pad, but that's only what I'm USED to using. I'd like to be better with a joystick, for the reason ubersaurus stated above, but Saturn and Dreamcast sticks are expensive...

I prefer a pad, specifically the Saturn pad, for fighting games. I like it so much that I have bought several pads over the years and modified tehm to work with other systems. For the sake of fighting game purity, and to keep my skills in the arcade up, I try to practice using a stick at home. One day, when I finally put my custom PimpStick Pro together, I'll have the ULTIMATE FIGHTING GAME JOYSTICK! It's made of sturdy pine and actual arcade parts. I'll try to get it done before the summer is through and throw some pics up for you guys.

I was lucky enough to get a brand new Hori stick for Saturn at EB for all of $5 over a year ago. I usually switch between that and the pad just depending on what mood I'm in.

I like to go with a joy stick, but I do better with a pad. A Joy stick feels right though.
