there's an earthbound scan thread by unbroken, I more or less is considered volunteering my tattered version so that the internet will have a copy of the guide.

My goal was always to see some sort of depository of scans of gaming mags, guides and manuals. so perhaps this will be my first step.

Well, I think that asking for everyone's opinion demonstrates your seflessness to begin with. Doing this would be a major contribution to the community... I know--at least around here--people would acknowledge and appreciate your gift.

On the other hand, that's a pretty rare guide...

... But you already know all this. So, I believe you started a poll to get some assurance. And I can definitely do that. I voted yes, because you're already contemplating this in the first place. That's the hardest part--you've already destroyed the guide in your mind. You've run through the consequences, and--if you're still on the fence by now--the choice is definitely yes.

... Here are some other things to consider, though:
Are you sure the guide doesn't exist in digital form already? Have you checked the usual suspects (hqscans, replacement docs, Moe's, etc.)? Have you asked around? Try the forums at Starmen.net. If anyone knows, they will.
Is your guide in good condition? The Earthbound Strat is bound to be... unbound and scanned sooner or later. If your guide isn't in perfect condition and you scan it, someone might come along later and scan their's because it's mint!
Sorry to send mixed messages, but it's a complex situation.

Well it's totally up to you

I would recommend to do some checks and see if someone has scanned a version in

§ Gideon § has great advice in this topic about it.

I voted 'no', and here's why. Your guide is not mint. It is very tattered. The scans are going to reflect that. Because of that, there is still going to be a need for a high quality scan of the guie, and someone else will gut a more minty guide and scan it, and then your's will have been in vain.

Just my two cents. I don't know what I'm talking about anyway.

That's tattered? Damn, that looks pretty decent for its age!

in my book, that guide looks good enough to get scaned.

Now you see how I feel about some of the guides I have, like the Dracula X PC-Engine guide. You want to scan them, but you simply can't... :/

I did vote "yes," though. This guide looks like it can be flattened out enough without being cut, actually.

I voted no, for two reasons:

1. The same thing that Chris/jibbajabba said.

2. I don't see why it needs to be destroyed to be scanned in the first place.

I don't know which one to vote. I think that guide is in pretty damn good condition for its age, and I think it should be scanned. However, I don't see why it needs to be "gutted" in order to be scanned. It IS possible to scan a guide without chopping it up you know! :D

The guide does look pretty decent for how old it is. :/ It's really your call. It'd be nice to have a scan, but it'd be a shame to tear that one up.
