Not the game, not who would win in a fight, but who is your fave?

Capcom. In addition to the stellar 2D fighting selection (and remarkable 3D fighting selection), there is also Mega Man (admittedly SNK has Metal Slug), Final Fight, Makaimura (Ghouls n' Ghosts series), the Commando series, Strider, and a CRAPLOAD of great shmups (mostly ones that are licensed to Capcom, but I digress)

I was leaning more towards Capcom, but I picked "too close to call" because Metal Slug is easily one of my favorite series and the Neo-Geo system has given us so much 2D goodness and I prefer the SNK fighters.

Capcom, clearly.

I picked SNK. True, Capcom has many more released games, but a lot of them are just rehashes. Plus, whenever I play a Capcom vs. SNK title, I always find myself choosing SNK characters (Nakoruru, Athena, King, Mai, Terry, etc.).

Capcom. They are one of the best companies out there.

Capcom... Street Fighter is the only reason for picking it.
I do love Metal Slug though,

If we are talking strictly about art direction, both companies would be too close to call. A huge part of Capcom and SNK's legacy (and arguably, their appeal) has always been in their insane character design, pre-production work and product art execution. Through all the artist swapping and industry politics, both camps have remained strong in this department.

Where Capcom comes out on top of SNK, if not on top of most third party publisher/developer houses, is in their most basic development philosophy (take a step back, take in the big picture). Both companies will milk their franchises until pigs have sprouted rocket propulsion and are orbiting the earth, but Capcom of Japan knows how to dip into the cash earned by these franchises and invest it into an experiment or two. Sometimes these experiments fail, sometimes they succeed. The successes take over the milking, which in turn funds future experiments.

For every Final Fight style beat-em-up hitting the arcade, Street Fighter 1 and 2 were being born in the back. For all the Street Fighters being released, Resident Evil 1 was in the lab. For every Resident Evil, Onimusha and Devil May Cry was being worked on. For every Onimusha/Devil May Cry sequel, Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7 were given life.

The “circle of product life” is always turning at Capcom.

SNK, on the other hand, feels stuck. An equation is missing. Their machine is stuck in first gear. Perhaps its a lack of money? Maybe creating KoF and Metal Slug sequels makes SNK happy? If so, more power to them (no sarcasm there, I mean it), but they aren't pushing themselves, the art form or the industry anywhere. It's almost painful to see, considering both their following and their potential.

Capcom isn't perfect. I'll be the first to admit they have issues...but damn it, at least they give the envelope a shove every once in a while. Hence, they get my vote.

Oh...my poor PM inbox...prepare to be cooked.

Capcom. I liked the Street Fighter series my whole life, and I've been using the characters my whole life. Ryu, Cammy, Sagat, Guile...they're all awesome.

Capcom treated Steel Battalion: Line of Contact the way a baby treats a diaper. And SNK made Twinkle Star Sprites, so I'm gonna have to go with SNK, Bob.

What? Those companies make fighting games, too?

I put too close to call. I LOVE my NGPC and might make a custom arcade cab with nothing but Metal Slug..... then again I love Megaman and Viewtiful Joe. They are very similar, but it seems Capcom is moving and SNK is kinda deciding which route to take.

Also, Metal Slug Online should be made.

Street Fighter & awesome support for the dreamcast. Vote Capcom.

Too close to call. These are two of the top five companies in gaming, as far as I'm concerned (the others being Sega, Nintendo and Konami).

Capcom has (among other titles) Mega Man, Street Fighter, Power Stone, Resident Evil, Disney games and beat 'em ups.

SNK has (among other titles) Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown, King of Fighters, Baseball Stars, Last Blade, and a plethora of other Neo Geo and pre-Neo (Crystalis, P.O.W., etc.) games.

I'd say SNK's fighting games thoroughly annihilate Capcom's, but Capcom has a stronger lineup overall. As far as today's games are concerned, Capcom is clearly miles ahead, since SNK PLAYMORE doesn't do anything new, and can't compare with the old SNK. As has previously been mentioned, Capcom does churn out countless sequels, but they also create excellent new games/franchises from time to time, which SNKP does not.

I am a fan of both but would have to say Capcom but SNK has their own thing as well.

I really like the SNK fighting games, but when it comes down to it I own more Capcom and love their designs. Away from fighters, I enjoy other Capcom brand games as well, something that I'm not too familiar with on SNK.

Capcom got me into fighting games, plus CPS arcade systems are full with shmups and fighting games.

If we are talking about our favorite arcade hardware, I would chose the Neo-Geo.

not really into the neogeo, so i choose capcom because they did street fighter ex!

Hm... guess I'd have to say Capcom. If only for the great non-fighter games they've always had, too.

And 1943.

SNK since they're the creators of one of my all-time favorite characters, Terry Bogard!

SNK. I am a Neo fanboy, though. I love Capcom, too -- spent way too much time in playing SFII in college. Neo hardware is great, it's that and the DC as my current faves to play games on.

But really, can't go wrong with a Capcom vs. SNK debate. SNK Playmore, OTOH....

Capcom. I only took into account fighting games when I voted but I would have picked them anyway.

I grew up with Street Fighter, and I love alot of Capcom games, so I obviously voted for Capcom.

I've just never really played much SNK. I remember when I was younger some friends and I rented a Fatal Fury game and stayed up all night playing, it was fun. But since then I've just never really had the oportunity to play any of SNK's games.
