Is it just me, or does it seem like rare PS1/PS2 games are getting reprinted like there's no freakin' tommorow?

The only one I can name is Gitaroo Man. What are some others? I know REZ was supposed to, but that dosn't look very likely.

I thought Rez was reprinted a while ago, around the same time as Ico.

No, they really are being re-printed like mad. The most recent PS1 games to get re-printed are Sayuki: Journey West and Breath Of Fire IV. I heard a rumor that Castlevania Chronicles may be next but I don't know.

Someone said that Sony is dropping the royalties fees for publishing PS1 games, so I think that might have something to do with all the recent PS1 re-prints we're seeing.

Cubivore (GCN)
Resident Evil 2 and 3 (GCN)
Gitarro Man (PS2)

Rhapsody (PS)
Rez (PS2)

Just some I have seen come into stores...

I concur. I rented Rez a few years back, but stupidly never bought it. Now maybe I can afford it.

Likewise, how do I get ahold of somebody about re-releasing Intelligent Qube? I played the hell out of it at college, but then we graduated. I never knew it was rare as hell until I tried buying it. :hmm:

I agree with re prints being awesome. If games were all so common that they only cost me 5-10 bucks I would be loving life cause then if time became available I could go out and play them all. It stinks to know there is an awesome game out there that I should play but find out its super rare and like 100+ bones. Thats lamesauce.

This is bad news. Bad bad news. Rhapsody and Persona II were the only two I had heard of [Getting a reprint] - Until now... I had heard rumours that Gitaroo Man and Rez were too...

Were the Resident Evil games on the Cube also reprinted recently? Is this also just an isolated American thing? Or will we see the same happening here in the UK too? This really does suck for all us collector's who paid a lot of money for our copies of these games...

Am I to assume that these new rereleases don't exhibit the white laser label or the holographic tear strip along the top?

Rez is DEFINITELY a reprint now -- look online at Amazon or Gamequest -- hell, check Gamestop's instore listings -- and you'll see tons of copies for $40-50. I think it's a GOOD thing -- that way everybody can share in the goodness that gets overlooked sometimes. Like Disgaea -- hard to find and somewhat expensive for a while, but now cheaper and easier to find, so I snagged a few copies for Christmas gifts this year :)

Still waiting for the Valkyrie Profile reprint -- like eveyone else, I'm sure!

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo was also re-released for the PS1, there was a flood of theim 6 month's ago on ebay for $29.95

Most Rare stuff on the PS2 really isen't Rare IMO, Just the userbase is soo massive that a 20,000 to 30,000 release seems Rare if the demand is high. Like Rez and MvC2 ect..

In the longhaul they'll flood the market, I also don't care about re-release's, though it's nice to see a few AAA excluesives once in a while remain on each console. Sad what happen to the DC and Genesis., streight rape'd those consoles. LOL

Yo, I'd kill to play Gitaroo Man. It's one of the greatest PS2 games ever, yet it's still hard to find.

And you know, Atlus games doesn't make reprints...They make limited prints, and then they're done. Games like Skygunner and Samurai Western will be a rare find soon...problem is: most of their games suck :).

Considering they just reprinted Persona 2, Cubivore, Rhapsody, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne, and did multiple print runs on Disgaea (was it 3 or 4 print runs?), I'm going to have to call shenanigans on the "limited print run" thing. As long as there's enough demand, they'll reprint something.

but I agree that Skygunner was no where near as good as everyone was making it out to be, and Samurai Western has been getting dumped on...

I think they also did a "reprint" of DragonBall GT Final Bout for PSX. However the "reprint" was done by Atari. Same game though. I have even seen people trying to pass this off as the original Bandai game on eBay and at flea markets by jacking up the price to $50 or more.

I already sold my copy of VP about a month ago. but if I were you I would listen to him. He is the self proclaimed PS1 expert. But seems weird that any Gamestop employee would know about a reprint of a rare game. Whenever I ask about something they respond,"Maybe sometime this week, we are always getting shipments but we don't really know."

I personally Make it a rule to not collect for current gen systems. you always run the risk of some held back stash or a reprint and with the prices for some games being what they are I'm glad I stuck with my policy.

OK the rez reprint is obvious to me now, i checked Ebay and they have like tons of em at BIN 51 dollars. my friend and i sold both of our copies, i had an opened used one, and he had a sealed onee. his sealed sold for 81.00 while mine opened sold for 80.00 so to me it is obviously REPRINT. good to hear though, but it doesn't matter casue i have the jap ver of rez for DC that's multi lingual! if they are rereleasing all these games, sell while you can!

I'd be amazed if that's the case since the publishers for these games are all different. Atlus, Capcom, Enix, and Konami. When Atlus did it with Rhapsody and Persona it was suprising but at least it was just Atlus. Now if everyone is going to be doing it, it changes everything. Especially with VP, wouldn't they have to change the inserts and instruction manual to Square-Enix?

I consider this good for gamers and bad for collectors. Since I fit into both categories I am happy and concerned. I'd love to be able to grab some of these games at more reasonable prices. But I'd kick myself if could've sold a game for $80 and bought it weeks later for $30. Decisions, decisions.

Does anyone know whether the PS2 PAL Space Channel 5 Part 2 got a reprint? Large numbers of the game surfaced in Toys R Us around September this year. I think they've all been snapped up now, though.

Until recently it's been the hardest game to find a copy of for the PS2 over here. Ico and Rez were both findable (if barely), but now I think that honour goes to Rez. (Or maybe Ephemeral Fantasia... hehe.)

You know, now that you mention it, each of the three or four Gamestops that I visited recently have had a copy or two of this game in stock in great condition. I didn't really think much of it because it's not really a very hard game to find but I suppose it's possible that it was re-released as well

Same thing here. First Gamestop had 3 or 4 copies of mint used Saiyuki ($19.99) and Breath of Fire IV (didn't check price).

Second Gamestop had used multiple copies of Gitaroo Man ($45), Persona 2 ($39.99) and Rhapsody ($39.99), all in mint like condition. Also noticed mint copies of used Cubivore.

Now if I can find a Valkyrie Profile and Suikoden II, I'll be all set.

Doubt it - I am guessing that it was just excess stock being liquidated. The game was never properly released in the UK, so if you think it was hard to get in Oz, it was horrendous here. For a short while there was a batch of new copies on eBay UK and the price went down a bit, but then they dried up and it's gone back up again.

I grabbed a full length promo from Germany for a few Euros ages ago.

I'll vouch for the reprint on rez, I have a pic of it on my site at:

http://gamerhistory.com/games/rez.html

There is absolutely no way to tell the difference from an original printing except for the missing top white spine label. If you were to buy it used, you would have no way of knowing. I hope more games get reprinted, more people should have the chance to play some of these awesome games.

Ahhh, okay. The guy who runs GQD posts over at CAG sometimes to let people know whenever he has a hot re-print for sale (like Rez and RE2 & 3). When he posted about the Rez re-release, he said that the game was exclusive to his store and nobody else would be selling it. Guess that was total B.S.

Even so, there are plenty of colelctor's out there who will desire the original release, all because of that small white label on the top...

Let's put it this way ~ The NOW 4 Cd (UK) is one of the rarest and most expensive CD's available, and can be downloaded for pittance, but there are still people out there who will pay the £200+ for it just for their collection.

There are also vintage Cd's which have no bar code on the back (A few U2 Cd's spring to mind), and are considerably rarer than copies reprnted this year, and available for under a fiver in most Cd shops ~ Yet many collector's will gladly pay £70+ for the originals, despite the fact that they may not even work after 20 years of use...

I was told by several Gamestop employees that the Gitaroo Man copies I am seeing at every store were not re-prints but apparently a warehouse find. They received copies of Gitaroo Man, Saiyuki, Persona 2, Rhapsody and Breath of Fire IV, and they had to open each and every copy before putting them in the "used" section. I forgot to bother to ask why they didn't simply sell them as "new". I am sure it had something to do with the business end of it all, but in the end it only hurts the collectors out there as they are no longer sealed. I also forgot to ask about Cubivore as I am seeing several Gamestops with "mint" used copies of this game as well.

Does anybody have any varying information as to any of these games? Where were they found? Why aren't they being sold as "new"?

Just yesterday, my local Rhino Video Games got in new copies of Gitaroo Man and Rez. Yes, they're still selling them as new. However, not quite 2 weeks ago, they also received the Persona 2 and Rhapsody reprints, a couple of which they left sealed, but sold at used price (I asked them why and they said "Because we don't sell new PS1 games anymore"...). Also, I noticed Kuon was there right alongside the other new PS2 games...was it reprinted as well?

BTW, Breath of Fire IV was reprinted? That's news (and rather shocking, at that) to me...

Also, I'm kinda hoping PAL Rez doesn't get reprinted, as I just imported one from the UK and got it in the mail Friday. Same sentiment with VP and Suikoden II, although they are getting PSP ports.
