Color me curious.

I normally get my post on at Assembler...but this seemed so appropriate for the Digitpress classic gaming forum...

Anyhoo, has anyone ever had a classic game collection stolen? I always read about people having piles of PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games stolen, but I've never heard "OMG!!!1 Somebody just cleaned out all of my Atari 8 bit stuff!"

I always have fears of somebody breaking into my house and cleaning me out, but I then breathe a sigh of relief when I realize that only a very small portion of my games are for current gen systems.

So, my question is: Have you been targeted for your classic game collection? Has a chum cleaned out your Colecovision? Anyone ever abducted your Ataris? Friend filch your Fairchild Channel F?

(Note: Of course I refer to when classic games are classics. Ie: If somebody stole your Colecovision in 83' you had your state of the art system stolen...it wasn't classic then.)

Yes.

A few months ago, all of my Video Game equipment was stolen. The bastards even used my own WalMart plastic bags to carry the crap out.

Not only games were stolen though, my home pretty much got cleaned out.

Now a question for you. Why?

Now a question for you. Why?

Why I want to know? Curiosity. The only scenario I could think of in which a classic gaming collection would be targeted would be an inside job (a friend or acquantance who knows the value of your games) or a criminal with plenty of time on his hands to take everything (your situation), even though he'd think it would be of little value.

If you asked "Why?" wondering why this post exists, thinking it is stupid, I apologize. If that turns out to be the consensus, I ask somebody to lock or delete it.

I've never had a game stolen from my collection, classic or modern.

I have considered the following:

1. Keeping a broken current gen system out in the living room along with a selection of super cheap crap games.

2. Have my "valuables" (super rare stuff and/or stuff with high sentimental value) hidden away but easily accessible.

In the event of a break in, the burglars would grab the broken current gen. system and crap games are stolen.

Hmm. On second thought, maybe instead of el cheapo crap games; buy empty dvd cases and print up dummy game covers.

Stick dummy CD-R's into the game cases.

I'm rambling, but I think you get my point. It's 4am, I'm going to bed. -_-

Not many, but yes. On Ebay recently I bought a very nice copy of Bionic Commando for GB that had the manual. My parents shipped it to me (overseas) and I got an empty package. This pissed me off to no end, as this game doesn't appear very often in such good condition.

Storage locker broken into and I got my copy of the old Metroid stolen (I had bought it new--the "Classic Series" edition) and Blaster Master. This event got me back into classic gaming 3 years ago, and I bought a refurbished toaster and all my old favorite games.

All of my stuff is in storage at the moment, which worries me, but I try not to think about it.

I've stolen some before >:D.

Went to a friend's house and stole his copy of Earthworm Jim. I loved it that much.

One of my friends stole my 6-pak cart for genesis, and claims he gave it back. But he DIDN'T! And this isn't classic but another friends stole my NHL Hitz Pro game for PS2.

No, but I had my Street Fighter EX + Alpha stolen from a cousin. I went to the hotel he was staying at and kicked his ass up and down the lobby.

just a few, and they were just a few games at a time. i have a massive movie collection so that happens there too, i dont really worry about people cleaning me out cuz i dont anything newer than a 64, and my collection would be a bitch to carry out of a third floor apt.
