I just decided that I want to foray into the world of Neo Geo. I have a JAMMA cab that I don't change the boards on nearly as often as I should. I'm thinking it might be nice to get either a 1 or 2 slot MVS motherboard to swap in for a change. Is there anything I need to know about this before I do?
Also does anyone have an extra 1 or 2 slot motherboard for trade or sale?

Have a looksy here (as well as the rest of the site):

I'd recommend just getting a single slot board to be honest with you - I had a 2 Slot and never used the multislot feature. If you have 2 MVS games, then it's handy; but once you get three, you'll just be swapping carts out anyway.

Check www-vidgame-net on eBay. Achika has a one slot board up for auction right now.

Cool I'm watching it right now. I'll bid later closer to the end. Typically what do these go for? There wasn't enough of a history on completed ebay auctions to get a good feel.
If I snag it anybody have any any cartridges to sell or trade.

I'm thinking about relocating the board in my MVS cabinet to either near the top or closer to the front by the coin door to make switching carts simpler.
Someone should create a "cart extender" for those things. Have a male end, a long ribbon cable, and then a female port that you could mount elsewhere (ie: the top of the cab) to make switching carts simpler for home owners! :)

She got a nice price for it - $91. Is this typical or was this high? It fell out of my price range before I could bid.

$91 for a 1 slot board is a great deal for the buyer. If you look at online stores that sell them like fillmoregames, videoconnect, coinopexpress you'll see you can't even get them below $100. If you had the money you should have gotten it. Anyway you should check the neo geo forums' market section regularly as they pop out now and then and you should be able to get a good deal.

I disagree. I feel that anything over $75 for a single-slot MVS board is inflated at this point. Sure, some will sell for more, but it's great deal for the seller in those cases.

Well I'm basing it from what you can get it at online stores. I guess if you're just looking at ebay then you have a point. But even the ones they sell at places like those I mentioned I am pretty sure are used.

Certainly, but with only a few exceptions, online stores (especial those dealing in arcade parts/games) are generally way overpriced.

It also depends on what type of one slot you are getting... from what I have experienced/seen the two best one slots are the MV-1FZ and the MV-1C. The other one slots are not as reliable as those two from what I have seen and alot of them are much bigger boards as well (older too). If you want add a unibios go with the FZ and if you don't care about the unibios go with the C.
I would stay away from the other one slots unless you get a really sweet deal on them ($75 or less).

The early MV-1 board, despite being the largest in size of the 1-slots, has the most features by far. Of every 1-slot I've used, the MV-1 is definitely my top choice - gigantic or not.

The MV-1 does have some cool features, which are cool if you will use them. I don't have personal experience, but have heard of that board having compatibility issues with some newer carts. Checking out the tech forum on neo-geo.com would be a good idea (along with the already suggested HardMVS site) for anyone looking to buy a board. If you really want the features of the MV-1 I would suggest just going for a 2 slot as they have a really good record as far as compatibility goes.
