Any one else been playing this? I guess it just sort of snuck on to store shelves but since i picked it up last week i've been having a blast.

The game is a faithfull VJ game with all the slick graphics and humour left in tact. Unfortuneately slowdowns seems to be common, but they're not detremental to gameplay and they are very brief.

The new touch based VFX powers are a real bitch to use because you can't use the stylus effectively during combat (unless you're skilled with your mouth) and the thumb strap doesn't stay all that tight to your finger.

All in all i'm impressed, but has anyone else out there tried it and liked it?

I have also played this, and I - like you - have mixed opinions. This game probably isn't an instant pick-up - and I'm a big fan of the series! Perhaps Viewtiful Joe has started to run its course...

The slow-mo VFX power-up doesn't feel right - it is just way too slow, and you can't deal out nearly the amount of the damage you once could on the console versions. This is more of a technical problem on the DS, than a design decision.

And, while the 3D is impressive, the art style is somewhat bland and murky, and doesn't have the same vibrant, colourful look of the other games. I also can't understand why they are churning out 3D on both screens, since it serves little purposes - other than to contribute to the already sluggish framerate.

And, as you say, the touch-screen power-ups are just too damn difficult to realistically use. The game is a good port - make no mistake - but I don't think it is good enough.

I'll probably do the same thing I did with VJ2, and wait for it to hit the magic $20 mark. :D
