It's been a while....well, I'm about 40 games out now. Once my store is up and running I expect to get back into the scene.

Docramon: Do you just go and buy all the games at retail when they come out for $29.99 and up?
Unlike DocRamon, I'm a $20 fiend -- i.e. I only VERY rarely buy a game for more than $20, but I tend to buy only new games for the newer systems. Hence, I DO miss out on some collectibles, but I can accumulate a lot of games without stretching myself out TOO badly, credit-wise.
Exception? The recent TRU buy-two-get-one-free sale... A pile of x $30 titles, where x is a number divisible by 3, means a pile of x $20 games now. Oy. So, some debt later, I'm up to 142 titles now.
But enough of that... I primarily wanted to bump this to ask what new stuff has shown up. For that matter, did RC Mini Rally or F24 Stealth or Harlem Globetrotters ever show up?
DocRamon
11-11-2006, 01:12 AM
142 certainly isn't a bad haul for only spending $20 per game! i'm impressed.
as for those games... F24 and harlem globetrotters were both pushed back to january. mini rc rally... that's anybody's guess. supposedly it's out, but i don't think any stores carry it...? i don't know. i keep thinking that frys will get it eventually... they seem to get everything eventually... but everytime i go, it's not there.
it took a good bit of time for blades of thunder and poker pack to show up in stores too, so i'm not too concerned yet. if we get a few months into the new year and we're still in the dark on this one, then i'll be concerned.

I've saw the GBA version of HG, so I'm assuming the DS one will make it out eventually.

started updating my personal list again recently ive fallen way behind im like 20 games away from a full collection counting the november releases. I'll catch back up mostly after the new system rush is over. Though some games i will NEVER buy such as strawberry shortcake and barbie. lol i'm content going for a 98 percent DS collection. Right now im at about a 95 percent complete collection though.
DocRamon
11-11-2006, 12:48 PM
but... the manual for strawberry shortcake smells like strawberries. that's worth the price of admission alone!
okay, maybe not... but seriously, it was strange opening up that game for the first time...

Lol seriously does it have like a scratch and sniff manual or does it just smell slightly like that after you open it? if it really does I will totally buy it, that ups the collector value of it imo >.>
Kinda like that old earthbound strategy guide that had the scratch and sniff stickers in it
DocRamon
11-11-2006, 11:23 PM
yep... seriously...
the cover of the manual feels sorta like scratch-and-sniff paper, it's definitely not normal, but you don't have to scratch anything to make it smell... from the second you open the thing, it hits you... the manual just smells like strawberries.
i think IGN even made a comment about it in their review of the game... accurately saying that it's the only good thing about the game.

That's pretty cool i'll have to pick that up then after the november rush (prolly try and get it in dec or january)... Though in regards to barbie I dont care what it ends up smelling like i'll never buy a barbie game lol >.>

Just picked up 3 more games, but am way out of the complete set. Its cool though.
Got some nice pieces traded into the store...a JPN Kirby Canvas Curse (with stylus included) and a complete JPN Electroplankton. Of course I took both home ;)
I also picked up a Limited Too Pink DS Lite bundle (comes with Princess Peach and Limited Too wrist strap)....perfect for any guy LOL

I just gave up on getting my complete DS collection. Recently there have been a wave of crap games that I will simply *never* play, such as My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, Hannah Montana, Zach & Cody, Alex Rider, etc etc.
It just reached the point where the volumes of crap far outweigh the quality titles.

Sadly I must agree with you, I had always hovered around a 99 percent complete collection choosing to pass up on games like harry potter and fifa 07 which i had NO desire in getting but now i am content going for a 90 percent complete collection as there are like 20-30 games I am lacking now because I refuse to buy barbie, harry potter, some of the sports games, and others for the DS its hard enough keeping up with 360 and such anyway
I still collect DS games just not gonna go for a complete collection anymore

I've noticed that too. In the last few weeks theres been a shitload of really crappy titles. I guess we all knew that this was going to happen once Nintendo pushed all the support to the DS and basically killed off the GBA.

Good lord how depressing I didnt realize how far behind i've fallen
On the bright side i have all 90/90 xbox 360 games and 42/42 arcade games as well as 18 wii games already >.>
Here are all the DS games currently on store shelves that I do not own (i already ordered fullmetal and the other december releases though)
adding more to the bright side at least most of these games in my missing list are pure crap even by collector standards lol (barbie, that's so raven, etc)
Though I do wanna get that uno compilation and a couple others out of this list. I will slowly catch up I suppose my problem is though that I focus on a lot of systems all at once. I love the DS to death but I play my 360 more so thats my number one collecting priority, DS is now my third (wii is 2nd)
fifa 07
2006 fifa world cup
harry potter
madden 07
barbie
strawberry shortcake
miss spider
bratz
hannah montana
disney's jake long american dragon
spongebob: kreature from krusty krab
scooby doo: who's watching who
lego star wars
hammy goes nuts
nicktoons battle for volcano island
nacho libre
tomb raider legend
star trek tactical assault
the sims 2: pets
tomb raider legend
star wars: lethal alliance
totally spies 2
march of the penguins
xiaolin showdown
uno/skip-bo/uno freefall
asphalt: urban GT 2
bionicle heroes
eragon
spider man: battle for NY
happy feet
winx club
chicken little: ace in action
that's so raven
need for speed: carbon
EDIT: seems i'm 34 games behind when i previously thought i was only about 20 behind bleh. what makes it harder is a lot of these games I also get on other systems, happy feet and chicken little I have on wii, bionicle heroes, lego star wars and eragon i have on 360, etc. it's all a bit overwhelming >.>

Lately ive been buying games at retail but only for the DS. I *USUALLY* try to get good prices on games when I can, I know a lot of xbox games i got when i used to collect for that system I got mega cheap from places like the circuit city clearance and such.
I get a little crazy around the holidays though what with all the systems and such that just came out. In fact today I picked up 5 more psp games (one of which was only 9 dollars yay) super swing golf for the wii, scarface collectors edition for the ps2 (finally gave in and bought it reluctantly - expensive for a ps2 game ><) oh and I picked up uno/skip-bo/uno freefall today cause it was the first time i saw it for sale somewhere that was not the internet.

12-18-2006, 08:39 PM
Well I generally buy them online because prices are pretty insane (IE google checkout at some online retailers gets you 10-20 dollars off depennding on if you pay 30+ or 50+ dollars for the game.
A couple of my xbox games I got for free for beta testing at xbox games at microsoft (i'd get the full version for free) but that was only like 3 games. I still pay full price for games at like bestbuy and stuff but I get a good deal on a large chunk of the stuff i buy overall.

that lionel game has actually been out for about a month now. Gamestop claims it just came out but gamestop generally knows nothing.
I was shopping for DS game cases and the guy was telling me what cases were good and how one eld 40 games "but you'll never need a case that holds that many" I told him how I had around 200 ds games with like 20ish I was still missing. He then proceeded to argue with me informing me that i obviously imported games because there was nowhere near 200 games available in the US for the DS.
LOL, his arrogance was so cute given how far off he was. He refused to believe otherwise so after about a minute of going back and forth I finally just said "Ok I must own a lot of imports, there arent that many games in the US"
The thing is I never even antagonized the guy or anything he just basically called me a liar when I said there were over 200 games available.
I wonder what he would have said If I had told him about my ps2 or xbox or 360 or ps one collections (or any other system for that matter. I bet he would have had a heart attack`if I told him I had 750-800 ps one games and knew "of" people (digitpress) that had over 1300.... lol

Just did a count of the games I am missing for a complete set...I am 81 games out O_O
Didn't think I got that far behind, but with the recent stampede of low profile crap I guess I know why. I mean Catz and Dogz I can sort of understand...they have been around for a while, but Horsez?? That is plain ridiculous. Then theres a game called Hamster Life, cause we all know that Hamsters are the most exciting animals out there...what with all the eating and sleeping and wheel running.
Thankfully I am making a list of every game when they come out so I don't forget anything when I go hunting in the future...but I don't really mind taking my time now ;)

Yeah they flooded the market in novemeber with ds games more than any other system. TONS of crap. I mean in late september there were maybe 5 games i didnt own and then by late novmeber there were like 30-40 apparently when i did my last count. I didnt stop buying games either I just slowed down on ds a bit but I am shocked i still fell that far behind. I can easily see how someone would slip to being 80 games behind. I agree there is a lot of low quality releases coming out but I think I draw a little further in than you since I actually bought that horsez/hamsters/dogz/cats series lol. I think doc ramone draws the line further in than us all though since I am 99 percent certain i wont buy barbie or bratz or winx club or those types of games lol.

For any interested in DS collecting, I have a not for resale copy of Elite Beat Agents. My local TRU has a bunch of DS game on clearance ($9.98), off the top of my head:
Metroid Prime Pinball
Texas Hold 'Em
Bust A Move DS
Fossil League: Dino Tournament
ATV Quad Frenzy
I know there were more....I'm planning on going back tomorrow...when I do I'll write them down. On a side note, they also had some great GBA games for $9.98 as well:

I figured folks who frequent this thread would know...
I'm curious as to what interesting DS items are out there that people would consider "worth mentioning."
Some that come to mind are demos, others are just packaging curiosities.
For example:
I think that the Metroid Prime demo and the Zelda: Twilight Princess demos are worth adding to any DS collection.
Similarly, there are neat packaging things like the UNO/Skip-Bo that comes packaged with the deck of mini UNO cards. Or, the Madagascar/Over the Hedge 2-pack.
What do you guys think about this stuff?
My real question is, does anyone have a fairly comprehensive list of this type of stuff that is out there?
Also, there are some updates that need to be made to the list of released DS games (but I'm sure you already knew that.)
Thanks,
Orri~

Theres a listing up on the EB/GS website for a Herbie's Rescue Rally thats slated for 3/20. My guess is that it's the same game.
Amazon lists Uno 52 as coming out on 3/6
Amazon lists a Risk/Clue/Perfection/Aggravation coming out on 3/7

Actually, MicroMachines V4 is already out... as is F24 Stealth Fighter. I saw F24 at my local TRU and I own a copy of V4.

Ok, we'll chalk up these as "Announced":
Disney's Herbie's Rescue Rally (tentative title?)
Uno 52
Risk / Battleship / Clue / Connect 4 / Trouble / Sorry
I can 100% confirm that the Micro Machines IV is out. Walmart has it for $19.82.
That leaves these:
B-17 Flying Fortress / Silent Running (supposed to have been out 11/06)
Rafa Nadal Tennis (supposed to have been 12/06 - available in Europe for sure)
Anyone?

I have been following this thread from the beginning but stopped buying DS games about 6 months ago. Now I want to resume buying them as they come out and go for a complete a collection. I would like some advice from you expert DS collectors here. Can you suggest a list of games that are out already and that I should buy them before they become impossible to find? My plan is to first pick up the old ones that are uncommon and leave the common ones till last. Thanks for helping!

I certainly could be mistaken, but I wasn't aware that any DS games were that difficult to find.
The only two that you'll have to resort to eBay for (that I know of) are:
Electroplankton
Monopoly/Yahtzee/Boggle/Battleship
Everything else is relatively available (again - I think.)

I've got info on a new variant. Castlevania DoS has been reprinted by Konami, "Konami's Best." The cover is a screenshot of the old cover. LOL

madden 06 is pretty darn rare in stores (at least in my region)
madden 06 is probably the rarest *sports* game on the DS.
For some reason they printed tons of copies for 05 and 07 but 06 got a pretty small print run and is hard to find outside of ebay/internet.
Also i noticed the Uno compilation is pretty uncommon., as is "catz" which is oddly rare compared to the other 3 games in its series (dogz, horsez, and hamsterz are all very easy to find in stores but catz isn't)
Again i am basing my comments on regional experience of where i live not off actual production numbers.

I have slowed way down on DS collecting im still missing around 25 games from a complete collection and am barely keeping up because i focus on wii and 360 predominately now.
My suggestions from fairly recent releases:
meteos: disney edition
lunar knights (will be rare i think)
inuyasha (traditional style rpg pretty sure it will be rare)
trion cube (cool little puzzle game)
The problem is all the DS collectors I know of are dropping off the planet or backing out of the system.
Im not sure where doc ramon has been but ever since digitpress had tons of problems and was down for almost a month he's been gone (he might not know the site is back)
Most people seem to have backed out of ds collecting for various reasons. I still collect for it but will not be completing it. I will never buy barbie or bratz lolof the 25 games I dont have for the ds right now there are like 7 of those that i will *never buy*

I'm pretty fortunate here I think, because there really isn't any game that I can't find at retail (I don't believe.)
What I'm looking for are some of the rare demos and giveaways (I would appreciate anyone who has a list).
For example - the Zelda Twilight Princess demo!!

Want to know anything about DS games/system, I pretty much know it all. Been collecting it for a while.

Hi Ken,
Do you know of a list of demos, exclusives, etc - anything DS that would be "collectable".
For example - the Metroid Prime: Hunters demo, the Zelda: Twilight Princess demo, etc..
Thanks!

Well, lots of games have "demo versions"
There are (that I know of):
Super Mario 64
Brain Age
Big Brain Academy
Yoshi's Island DS
Wario: Master of Disguise
Kirby Squeak Squad
Elite Beat Agents
Tenchu: Dark Sercet
New Super Mario Bros.
Tetris DS
Metriod Prime Hunters
Diddy Kong Racing DS
etc. etc.
These are the obvious store demos.
There are also other demo carts:
DS Download Station Volume 1
DS Download Station Volume 2
DS Download Station Volume 3
DS Download Station Volume 4
Nintendogs: Download/Relay version
There are many preorder items and promotional items available.
For example:
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All stylus
Lost in Blue 2 stylus
Nintendo DS braclets (pink/black)
Castlevania 25th Anniversary Pack
Mini Uno cards with Uno/Skip-Bo/Free Fall
Spectrobs stylus
Nintendo DS t-shirts
Nintendo DS lanyard
etc. etc.
There are also pack-in games with certain DS systems:
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart DS
Nintendogs: Best Friends
I hope some of this helps!
Ken
