Well, lots of games have "demo versions"

There are (that I know of):
Super Mario 64
Brain Age
Big Brain Academy
Yoshi's Island DS
Wario: Master of Disguise
Kirby Squeak Squad
Elite Beat Agents
Tenchu: Dark Sercet
New Super Mario Bros.
Tetris DS
Metriod Prime Hunters
Diddy Kong Racing DS
etc. etc.

These are the obvious store demos.

There are also other demo carts:

DS Download Station Volume 1
DS Download Station Volume 2
DS Download Station Volume 3
DS Download Station Volume 4
Nintendogs: Download/Relay version

There are many preorder items and promotional items available.

For example:
Phoenix Wright: Justice for All stylus
Lost in Blue 2 stylus
Nintendo DS braclets (pink/black)
Castlevania 25th Anniversary Pack
Mini Uno cards with Uno/Skip-Bo/Free Fall
Spectrobs stylus
Nintendo DS t-shirts
Nintendo DS lanyard
etc. etc.

There are also pack-in games with certain DS systems:
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart DS
Nintendogs: Best Friends

I hope some of this helps!

Ken

Hi Ken,

This does help. Question - are the pack-in games (Animal Crossing, Mario Kart DS, Nintendogs: Best Friends) different than the retail releases?

Where can you get those Download Station carts?

Any other demos like the Metroid Prime: Hunters and Zelda? They came with special cardboard sleeves. Am I missing any?

Thanks again,
Steve

The pack-in games are in printed cardboard folders rather than plastic retail cases, and the cartridge is in a little slit inside. The manuals and the cartridges are the same as the retail release. Nintendogs: Best Friends Edition did not have a retail release, however.

There's also a Super Mario 64 DS pack-in, in addition to the three titles mentioned above. The Metroid Prime Hunters demo was a pack-in as well, with the earliest DS systems, and the Zelda Twilight Princess demo is in the same type of packaging although it was handed out at E3, not packed in.

Were there any others similar to these?

I think Drexel923 has a couple extras he might be willing to sell. You should send him a PM.

Everyone needs to keep their eyes out for this

Quick Spot (http://www.namcobandaigames.com/games/quickspot/)

I've heard absoultely nothing about the game, except that Namco says that it was released today (3/13). EB/GS doesn't list it, but Amazon does (though its not available to ship yet).

It'll be a good one and a rare one to boot.

Very interesting indeed...

That's not on any of my "announced" lists.

I'll add it, and keep an eye out.

Here's my lists as of today, if anyone has something to correct or add - PLEASE LET ME KNOW!:

Regarding Quick Spot, Best Buy has it listed as a preorder with a 3/20 release.

[EDIT] Oh, and Amazon has Mind Quiz: Your Brain Coach listed as available, as does EBGames.com, but I haven't seen one in the while.

@ Orrimarrko

A few 'pack-in's that your forgetting include
Wiffle Ball w/Ball and Bat (seen at Best Buy, Oobgarm sent me the cellphone pic to prove it)
Princess Natasha w/ plushie and book (seen at TRU)

The Kirby Stylus wasn't a pre-order, but was a send away via a web link from Nintendo back when the game came out(the stylus is pink and came attached to a card talking about it)
I can confirm BOTH Phoenix Wright styluses as i've got them both.

Both styluses are the same, but the original Phoenix Wright Stylus (that I got when I pre-ordered the game thru Capcom's website) has a wrist band that has the Japanese text under the PW logos on the strap and the card packaged with it is totally in Japanese (front and back).

The And Justice For All stylus (which I got via a GS/EB pre-order)has the English PW:AJFA logos on the wrist strap but the card packaged with it is in Japanese on the front, and the warnings on the back are all in english.

There still might end up being a Death Jr. Stylus when the game eventually comes out whenever that is. It was originally listed as coming with a Scthye Stylus, but i've seen the release date change numerous times and gotten at one point a notice from GameStop telling me that something from that order has been dropped, and when I talked to the customer Service rep he told me it was the stylus, but I can't be for sure anymore since its release has been so screwed up.

Mind Quiz is suppose to be out this week so i'd take it for showing up in the stores probably tomorrow.

Great info Pap Stu!!

I knew about the pre-order stylus for PW:AJFA - there are a bunch on eBay.

I couldn't find an instance of the pre-order bonus for PW:AA though, so that's great info. Now if I can just get one somewhere!

I also knew about the plushie with Princess Natasha. There's also a plushie release with March of the Penguins (seen at TRU the other day.)

Haven't seen the Wiffle Ball with bat though - that's so cumbersome, I'm a little surprised that retailers would carry that.

I'm certain that there are some others, but I can't think of them...

Let's keep the info coming in folks!

Thanks,
Steve

Just saw Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier for the first time in a store today.

$19.99 and there were two of them. One for me!

This was one of the titles that I saw once upon a time, and then never again.

Oh - and the people who made the Wiffle Ball insert art should be ashamed of themselves.

It's VERY pixelated...

Some breaking news (at least I didn't know this...)

"The Settlers" for the DS is apparently the first non-Nintendo exclusive title for the system.

This is a "GameStop" exclusive title, which although surprising to me, is coming out next Wednesday, 3/28.

Something worth noting...

Steve,
The Spectrobes Stylus was also given away at last years SD Comic Con.

As far as the Franklin the Turtle thing goes....does it actually come in a package with the game and doll, or is it just a free generic franklin doll (one that isn't made specifically for this deal)?

Also, its only available in Canada, so I'm not sure if it counts on this list or not. We are all collecting US only right? (mainly that is)

Also, if anyone has a copy of the UNO game new with cards for sale let me know.

Interesting about the Spectrobes stylus - didn't know that.

Not sure about the Franklin plush - but if it's Canada only, I'm taking it off the list for sure (no offense Northern neighbors!)

I can get you a copy of the UNO with the mini cards - they're pretty prevelant here.

Nice!

I just came back from BB with the new Konami's Best Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for...

$4.99 NEW!

It's $9.99, but I used the $5 off any DS game coupon, so ugly cover and all - I have it to complete the collection (not that I'm close.)

Another one to add to the list...

I picked up some rather uncommon newer releases including (but not limited to)

harlem globe trotters, uno 52, quickspot, and some others (including some compilation games)

The game and doll come together in a clear box. There are no markings or stickers on the box, just a clear box. I don't know if it's exclusive to Canada, I haven't seen it anywhere else. Could be exclusive to Future Shop, but they'll usually advertise it as such if it is.

Also, this may be a game to watch out for:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10084871&catid=22014

According to that link, it had a release date of Mar 20, though they don't seem to have it in stock yet. It's listed in this thread as including 'risk'. Could be one to watch given how tough the other board game comp is to find. Anyone have any more info on a release date?

Where did you find Harlem Globetrotters?

I've been trying to confirm that.

Also, what compilation games did you find? Very curious about that one.

Was it the Battleship/Connect Four/Trouble/Sorry?? If so - where!

Thanks,

The title in the "Announced" list was a tentative title - apparently they were considering including Risk and Clue. It would seem that they may do yet another compilation game to include those two titles, and perhaps two from another previously released compilation.

Battleship is in both compilations, so we got gipped there.

Updated list above includes the following, supposedly released today:

Custom Robo Arena (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Disney's Herbie's Rescue Rally (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Lost in Blue 2 (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Major League Baseball 2K7 (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords (confirmed 3/25 at Target)
Settlers, The (Gamestop Exclusive) (unconfirmed to be released at the moment)
Steel Horizon (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Theme Park (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
TMNT (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)
Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007 (confirmed 3/21 at Gamestop)

If we could get a locational confirmation on these (see below), I'll add them to the "Released" list, and remove them from the "Announced" list:

B-17 Flying Fortress/Silent Running (supposed to be released 11/2006)
Rafa Nadal Tennis (supposed to be released 12/2006 - is in Europe/Asia/Australia)
Spy vs. Spy: MAD (supposed to be released 3/13)
Harlem Globetrotters World Tour DS (supposed to be released ...)
Battleship / Connect 4 / Trouble / Sorry (supposed to be released 3/20)

Thanks again everyone for your help!!

According to Future Shop, B-17 comes out Apr 15 and DVDboxoffice.com has Rafa Nadal Tennis for Apr 20. Of course, the dates could be wrong, but it's a good indication that the games aren't out.

well im glad to see more people are collecting ds games. Nice list and I have some suggestions the EB/Gamestop exclusive games should probably be added to the regular game list with maybe a note by it. Also maybe move Madagascar/Shrek SuperSlam (2-pack) since its the same games with a slip cover. Below is a list of what I am missing(23 games).

Barbie In The 12 Dancing Princesses
Catz
Custom Robo Arena
Disney's Herbie's Rescue Rally
Disney's Kim Possible: Global Gemini
F24 Stealth Fighter
Final Fantasy III
Hotel Dusk: Room 215
Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel
Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja
Lost in Blue 2
Lunar Knights: Vampire Hunters
Meteos: Disney Magic
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice for All
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Shrek Smash N' Crash Racing
Steel Horizon

Tom and Jerry Tales

That's impressive - I have a LONG way to go.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This is basically how I keep my spreadsheet - it's just how I would keep track of things. Everyone is certainly welcome to keep track of the games in a way that makes sense to them.

Since the 2-pack is a type of special edition release, even though it's just a slip-cover, I'm still thinking that I'll need it to complete my collection.

As for the GS exclusives, it's easier for me to separate them as exclusives. I anticipate that there will be a LOT more over time.

Thanks again!

I really don't think that theres going to be tons of exclusives over time. They are picking weird titles that arn't moving huge quantities in the first place. The Tenchu game wasn't all that good, and even if Settlers is really good it isn't going to sell like hot cakes because there is absolutely zero promotion going on for it. They had signs and stuff up all over the GameStops for Tenchu, and I didn't even know that The Settlers was an exclusive until I read it here (and i've had it on my 'buy me when it comes out' list for months.

My guess is that GS is just doing close to minimum DS runs until they get lucky with a game and it moves much faster than expected, and only then will they think about picking up something special. Continuing with that kind of thinking just taking a look at GBA exclusives and you'll see that there really wern't all that many, and the ones that were store exclusives were really just quirky niche titles that are only demanded by the collectors and not the gaming public.

From doing a fast count its looking like the DS is nearing 300 titles already. In my buying madness i've just crossed the 100 mark (103 as of right now) and i'm just buying the 'good' stuff and the really quirky/strange stuff. I think if I keep up this pace i'll be lucky to stay at a 30% of the collection pace considering how many titles are hitting a month now.

You could certainly be right Papa Stu - I guess there probably won't be a "LOT" of exclusives, now that I think about it. However, I am surprised that there hasn't been any other retailers doing exclusives.

This system library could easily hit 600 at this pace.

March 07 alone is roughly 20 titles - that's a lot of games.

We'll see what happens over time.

Yeah i've had a hard time keepign up since i focus on all the systems.

Im just glad the wii only has 45 games out right now - 360 is pretty easy to keep up with as long as they dont release more than 6 games a week >.>

DS though gets confusing - not because of games like settlers which are exclusive to gamestop - rather because of games like harlem globetrotters, mini rc racing, and other games that have come out over recent months that were released at places like toysrus with little or no marketing at all and no official release announcemen t on sites like gamestop or ign. I havent counted in awhile since i'm busy so often but my rough estimate is that we are near or around 260 titles for the US DS library (including all the recent obscure releases such as harlem globetrotters and the new compilation games.

I'm missing between 20 and 30 DS games myself but most of those are games i will never buy like bratz, winx club, barbie, and harry potter.

Other games I am missing like shrek smash and crash I am waiting for a price drop on because I own the psp versions of some of the games.

On the topic of gameplay though I must say spectrobes as a pleasant surprise for the DS I actually find the game to be quite enjoyable.

Here's what I have right now, as far as totals:

Wii 46 including 3 special editions, 1 exclusive, and 1 pack-in.

DS 273 including 1 re-release, 4 special editions, 2 exclusives, and 5 pack-ins. 263 releases (including Tenchu and Settlers.)

XBOX 360 134 including XBOX Live Arcade, 11 special editions, 5 re-releases, and 9 exclusives (including the BK games.) 114 releases including XBOX Live Arcade, the BK games, COD2: GOYE, and COD3: Gold)

Of course, it's all how you view the different types of releases.

I know that xmagnusx views the different types of packaging differently than I do - so it's personal preference.

The Wii is easiest (for now), but you can buy the two steering wheel games without the steering wheel, and then there's the WiiPlay and Wii Sports, along with the Target Sonic release.

The DS is fairly easy to keep track of, with 261 plus the two GameStop exclusives. The rest are games with gimmicks to help sell them, or they're system pack-in with modified packaging. The Konami's Best Castlevania: DOS is the re-release. Since it's a different insert, it belongs on the list.

The 360 is actually the hardest, IMO. There are a LOT of special edition re-releases, and retail exclusives, so that gets confusing. If you include Call of Duty 2, then you should include Call of Duty 2: GOYE, because the insert is different. Then there's the same release at TRU that includes the cd shrinkwrapped to the back. Same with Call of Duty 3, because now there's a Gold Edition of COD3. It get's a little harder to keep track of.

I will agree with one thing that xmagnusx said though - the DS is cranking out releases like hotcakes, and some of them get no publicity whatsoever - that's why we all need to help each other with keeping the list current.

Peace!

Orri~

My list of games got all screwed up so I have to start over, but when I do I am going to do it right. I am trying to collect all US releases, including all variants. If anyone else is also doing variants I would love to try and keep up with this thread more often. Theres a few things I'm not sure others know about. For example...currently I have 4 variants of Brain Age. Anyway, hopefully I will have my list done soon and then I can start participating more.

YES! I too would love to do variants as well, but since I'm trying to keep up with lists for the DS, 360 and Wii, it would be hard for me to do all the investigating.

If anyone can provide variant information, however, I'd love to add it to my list.

Apparently, the following compilation games may be available at retail:

Clue/Mouse Trap/Perfection/Aggravation

Battleship/Connect Four/Sorry/Trouble

Perhaps major retailers wont get them for a few weeks but amazon got them out early and has limited quantities right now?

Okay - I've added Meet the Robinsons and POGO Island to the releases list, since they've been confirmed.

I've removed The Settlers, since it's been delayed to late May.

LOL

I got mine on eBay a while back. Haven't seen one in a while though. You may want to contact Joe (DP) as I think he might have one for sale in his store.

I was reading CAG today and I think the Castlevania went back up in price...but of course they didn't change the sign by the games. If they won't adjust the price then I'll just return it.

Honeycomb Beat is confirmed at my store...Next Level Videogames :D I got it last Friday.

Cake Mania was on my distro list this week and I ordered one, so I should know if its out on Friday. Though others may see it earlier than me.

I don't know about the FF game though.

Re: Globetrotters and Sorry

I saw them at Music for a Song in the Outlet Mall in Grove City, PA. It was notable, of course, because not even Amazon says they're in-stock.

I did NOT buy the games, but they were there for $19.99.

Just a heads up as people here said Whiffle Ball was kinda hard to find. I went to Best Buy today and found a package with a wiffle ball bat and ball w/Game for 19.99.

How bad is it? I must know! If its bad enough its going into the purchased and sits next to Elf Bowling/WiffleBall gaming craptacularness pile?

Not sure if anyone said it yet, but FF: Chocobo Tales is out. Saw it at EB, bought it at Target. Very cute, and totally touch-screen based.

Hadn't seen it yet - thank you for the update!

Saw Honeycomb Beat at Frys today.

Looks like the one oddity is the M&M's Break 'Em All.

I've only seen this new at Best Buy. Has anyone else seen them anywhere else?

I'm wondering if this is an exclusive to Best Buy, as it was available for pre-order on their website, but no one elses.

Your local EB/GS is starting to get in copies of Quick Spot. I snagged that one today (and was happy to not have to get it online), but have yet to see either Honeycomb Beat or Cake Mania in a GS/EB. I've got time on saturday so i'll be going out on the hunt for this weeks releases that i've yet to get.

M&M's Break 'Em All was also at Music for a Song in Grove City, PA. So, it's not a Best Buy exclusive.

Regarding Harlem Globetrotters... (1) no idea if it's at Wal-Mart retail; it wasn't the last time I was in a Wal-Mart, but it's been well over a week and frankly, my local Wally doesn't have much in the way of games really; and (2) no idea what it plays like; I'm not even sure where my DS is right now, so it probably won't get opened for a while.
