Im sure most people who are reading this post already knew all that. However i am glad this is starting to get more into the mainstream media (granted its only PBS but its a start) its a step is the right direction.

That's a nice article; thanks for the link!

P.S. Did you get a look at my "videogames take more shit..." thread? It relates to the point made as to what age demographic game developers are targeting through their games.

All I really did was look at the myths they listed and couldn't be bothered with reading their defenses. I've already heard it all

People who suggest that videogames promote violence have their stats to back up their claims and those who disagree have their own statistics to back up what they say. You're never going to convince the other side to believe otherwise so I don't even bother anymore.

Interesting quotes:

Many early games were little more than shooting galleries where players were encouraged to blast everything that moved. Many current games are designed to be ethical testing grounds...The Sims designer Will Wright argues that games are perhaps the only medium that allows us to experience guilt over the actions of fictional characters.

Classic studies of play behavior among primates suggest that apes make basic distinctions between play fighting and actual combat. In some circumstances, they seem to take pleasure wrestling and tousling with each other. In others, they might rip each other apart in mortal combat. LOL

But more often than not, the persons attacking Video Games have an agenda, and the people defending them are doing nothing more than defending their hobby. Very rarely will you hear anyone say, "Video games do not promote violence" unless first fed some form of anti-game sentiment.

Did anybody else follow through the links at the bottom of the page? One is a salon.com article where the author describes being lured onto Donahue and having them steamroll over any good points he has to make. Amazing. Sickening, actually. Ol' Phil doesn't get any love from me, now.

(couldn't read what he said due to the immense size of the image in the sig)

Seriously. WTF? That is the largest sig I have ever seen in my entire life.
