I really enjoy the original Space Invaders and have for a really long time, ever since my dad bought a 2600 just to play it. He could kick my butt on it for hours and hours. A lot of my greatest gaming memories have to do with this game because it was pretty much the last game that he really loved. Oh, he tried Mario and stuff once in a while, but would always talk about Space Invaders.
I kept seeing this game at various places, but I didn't want to spent $19.99 on it without knowing exactly what was done. After finding a $5.00 off coupon at Best Buy, I decided to purchase the game.
As a warning, you have to like the original game to really like this game. You have the Classic Version, which is a version that it identical to the original arcade game. Then, there is a New Age Challenge, which is where the game really shines in my opinion. You have levels with certain challenges based on the original game -- the invaders are in a much smaller area, there are twice as many but they are smaller, you have to shoot them in a certain order, they divide as hit and so on.
Wow. The challenges, with the exception of one, are extremely balanced and fun to play. I wasn't expecting anything but a straight up port of the old game, which I was willing to pay $15.00 for. But it turns out the rest of the game is really, really worth getting. If you like the original, arcade version at all and have a DS, you'll definitely want to check this one out!
