I find the VIC-20 games to be pretty fun. Some of the arcade clones are cool too. Do any of you still play this system?

I sold all my VIC-20 games a few years ago on eBay - I didn't have a working system any more. But IMO the VIC-20 was far superior to any other system of its time when it came to games. I remember my 'rents got us the VIC-20 and then, a little later, I went to someone's house to check out the Atari - the difference in Donkey Kong and Pac Man was amazing. I couldn't believe that the Atari versions were so clunky, cumbersome, and ugly.
And Scott Adams' adventure games were cool.

It's an underrated system for sure. The arcade ports and cartridge releases were usually excellent. I think Omega Race and Serpentine are better than the originals and Defender was the best home port at the time.

I sold my 80 cart collection to Joe, by far my favorite game was Pharoh's Curse. To me, it was pitfall on crack.
The last coupple of years have seen an increase in game and demo releases for it. For games check out Astro Nell (http://thor.prohosting.com/cronosof/astronell.htm) and a great demo would be Robotic Liberation (winner in the Assembly'03 oldskool demo competition). Download this video of it (23Megs) (http://www.pelulamu.net/pwp/vic20/pwp-liberation.mpeg), because it doesn't work corectly on current eumlators. Nice song (voice synth) and a good example on what you can do with an unexpanded VIC20.

I sold some rarities for this system to Joe as well ;)
I personally love the Vic. It was my first Commodore computer, and I especially loved (and still do) the Scott Adams text adventures. Scott has a website up actually where you can freely download the games for play on the PC with an included interpreter. These are among some of the best games for the Vic, if you are into text adventures.
The Vic-20 did have some neat games. Try to get Jelly Monsters. Released in Europe only (I believe) it is a rip of Pac-Man...but a very good one. Guess COmmodore got in trouble for it!

It's not a ripoff but an official Pacman conversion. At least it was in Japan where Hal Laboratory (who made it) had the rights to Pacman. It was renamed for the western release where it had some trouble due to Atari having the rights there.
Same with Star Battle (made by Satoru Iwata in his early years at Hal) which was an official Galaxian port in Japan.

Here is an interesting interview with Michael Tomczyk, assistant to Jack Tramiel, about Commodore and Japan, the design influences for the VIC20, negotiations with Nintendo (Jack Tramiel cancelled a deal that would have given Commodore rights to do home computer versions of all of Nintendos game just before the contract was to be signed) amongst other things.
