I'm really enjoying Puyo Puyo CD. The Japanese voice acting for the strange characters is hilarious. Feeesh!
Glad you like it! I'm loving Parasol Stars :D
Turbo Games I love and highly recommend:
Dracula X
Ys 1+2, 3 (Still my 2nd favorite soundtrack ever), and 4
Parasol Stars
Blue Blink
Parodius
Puzznic
Zipang (Exactly like Solomon's Key, though the first couple of levels are not on Solomon's Key IIRC)
Avoid the JPN Hu-Card Rock On, though the opening story is Engrish at its best!
I was playing Twinbee on Magic Engine. I know it's Japanese, but how could no one have mentioned it yet? It's a great shooter!

I never got to spend much time with this CD-based system from the creators of the Turbografx-16. However, what little I've played (on both the actual system and Magic Engine) has really impressed me. Dracula X is a strong entry into the Castlevania series, and games like Gate of Thunder and the peculiarly named Alzadick are both excellent shooters. Are all the other games on the system this good? What were your favorites? Which games should I avoid?
JR
Ive spent the entire lifespan and years after with the turboduo system.
My rule is , if i dont have the game , i need it.
So i collected pretty much all of them.
Matter of fact i skipped the NES altogether and went straight to the TG16.
Im not one of those retards that has to make sure the game is Rare or Good
in order to buy it.
Im a die hard NEC collector and player.
I recently had AIRZONK tattoo'd on my arm and some of the gayhole members (prolly because they have those dumbass wrestler tribal tattoos)
started ripping into me for it.
You know what though?
Ive been playing that game since it was released and i still do.
im also one of the few members here that went as far as owning
a pcfx, shuttlegrafx, pcengine LT and so forth.
Believe me, those cost alittle more than a used NES.
I play games to beat them, complete them or whatever you call it.
Hate all you like, but over the years ive spent more time and money building
a nice NEC collection than i have for any other system.
I remember having to choose between trading in a coregrafx II or my vectrex for store credit , and the vectrex went bye bye first.

I know what you mean, haven't checked in in a week and look at the topic!
First off, a 6-button controller does not need to be modded to play on a US system. They are pin compatible so ANY PC Engine controller will work on a US Duo.
Ah, the games.
Must haves:
Bonk's Adventure and Revenge
Blazing Lazers
Neutopia and Neutopia II
Ys I&II
Cosmic Fantasy 2 (my favorite RPG!)
I really like Dead Moon as I prefer side-scrolling shooters. Also, I highly recommend having the ability to play Japanese HuCards as nearly 1000 games were released in Japan and only about 140 in the US (and by the way, I believe every US release had a Japanese counterpart). So either buy a PC Engine Duo or a US system with the converter or the region mod (hmmm, wonder who offers that..... :P )

I totally agree about spriggan being one of the greatest shooters ever made.
Never played spriggan mark 2, but plan to get it one of these days.
As for the other games, Ys book 1,2 and 4 are great. How can you people not mention devils crush?!?! It is the greatest pinball game ever made! I traded away most of my hucards, because I never played them.
I will say this: NEVER, i mean NEVER use your tg cd or duo to play music cds, it will shorten the life of the laser that reads the data, just like using your ps2 or xbox to watch movie dvds shortens its life. I found this out the hard way

Dungeon Explorer I & II
Cotton
Jackie Chan's Action KungFu
JJ & Jeff
Bonk 1, 2, & 3
Air Zonk

the problem isnt that the game sucked, but there were fights every 3 steps. Not that the battle system was bad, it was ok, but you just fight the same enemies over and over, that was pretty lame yeah.

Gate of Thunder

I love my PC Engine Duo, except I rule it out as unplayable cuz I happen to have some horrendous sound hardware problems that occur quite frustratingly constant. I heard it's not a isolated problem, so D-Lite knows what I'm talking about, cuz I once made a thread at Neo Geo.com concerning that issue.
Anyways my favorite Turbo games:
HuCards:
Bloody Wolf
Ninja Spirit
Keith Courage
Tiger Road
Sidearms
Ninja Warriors (JPN)
Youkai Douchuuki (JPN)
CD:
Dracula X
Red Alert/Last Alert
Cosmic Fantasy II
Final Zone II
Riot Zone. That beat em' up kicks major ass.

I remember the thread and yeah, it's common. The debate rages on amongst people here and there as to the cause. One issue is obviously the CD drive itself which can crap out. The one I'm more interested in is the complete loss of sound, but NOT impeded CD drive performance.
What's your NG.com name? And if your Duo has NO CD read issues, but sound is screwed up, I wanna experiment on your Duo. I have a good idea about what chips are problematic and have replacements to try.

My NG.com handle was Youkai, but I recently changed it to "Dancing Mad".
The games plays just fine. It's the stuff like the music starts crackling and goes quiet. Sometimes it'll be just sounds and no music, sometimes it would be just silence period. yeah, it'd be a good idea if you saw for yourself.

I've own several incarnations(Turbo CD, Turbo Duo x 2, PCE CD-ROM) and only had problems with the one that I bought from someone who hadn't treated it very well(digitized sfx in some games like drac X & came out staticy).
The Turbo Duo I bought the month it debuted still workd fine and I play it to death.
I've never known anyone personally whose had this problem.
But I'd expect problems with the original CD Rom console after 10 or more years.

I just updated my walkthroughs for Tengai Makyo: Fuun Kabuki Den & Night Creatures on GameFAQS.
The Kabuki Den walkthrough now covers through the second major area(Eastend/UNGIE) and still guides through the rest in point form.
It translates everything(except exactly everything everyone says) and looks like a graphic intensive web page(even though it's just a text file).
If you like RPG's, especially is you like Final Fantasy, then there's no excuse now not to play one of the best games on Turbo Duo.

simply put, the turbo duo/pc engine and the neo geo aes/mvs are the best systems ever. you may be thinking it doesn't have final fantasy, or some of the other classics on the snes, nes, genny and what not, but if you go by percentage of games on the system that are good then they are far superior. some of these systems have over a thousand games, the turbo duo and neo geo barely brake 100. out of the 120+ game on the neo and turbo grafx i would say 60% for the turbo are good, and more like 90% on the neo geo. which is a high percent, considering i can only think of about 25 snes games i like.
neo geo and turbo duo are the best systems ever! add pc engine in the mix and super grafx and you have some good games that have never graced any other systems.
here is a small list of some of the good pc engine games.
ys 1 and 2,3
valis 1,2,3,4,
shubinbinman 1,2,3,
cotton
dynastic hero (my fav on the system)
dracula x
magical chase
gates of thunder (bonk 2 is a great game, good enough to buy the whole system for)
blazing lazers
raiden
fantasy zone
exile 1 and wp
fausette amour
coryoon
downtown nekketsu
super ghouls n ghosts (super grafx) even better than the arcade port.
bikkuriman world (port of wonderboy in monster land)
magicoal
monster lair
lords of thunder (my favorite shooter on the system)
super star soldier
just so you know, darius alpha and beyond shadowgate are fowl pieces of garbage. avoid them.
also, anyone who may be interested in modded duo's, i have a hook up. i can either get you a duo, or get your duo, duo r, duo rx, super grafx, and tg16 modded. this means a region swtch to play jp hu's. and for extra you can get a s-video mod and a fan for the duo system. anyone who has a duo needs a fan badly. eventually your duo will have cd problems with music if you play it to much.

What is your favorite game on this system?
galaga 90
- What are some of your other favorites?
bonk's adventure, bonk's revenge, legendary axe, splatterhouse, aero blasters, sinistron, vigilante. y's book 1 & 2, y's 3 wanderers from Ys.
- What games surprised you?
splatterhouse, the hero's name was Rick :)
-Infuriated you?
Rick died a LOT in splatterhouse!
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction? Yes, a friend had the system and got to play a few games for it and wanted it.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now? Yes, and i still have it with all the games i bought NEW.
- How many games do you have for it?
counting CD games also around 30
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us? none that are interesting.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Easily, Cosmic Fantasy 2. I still think about that game to this day! :rocker:
- What are some of your other favorites?
Silent Debuggers, Ys series, Exile, Last Alert (don't laugh), Neutopia, Devil's Crush, Alien Crush, etc. I know I'm forgetting a lot.
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Keith Courage. I was surprised how crappy that game was. It also infuriated me. So did the controls on Fighting Street.LOL
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I think it was Ys. I thought the game was pretty cool.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yes, I owned a TG-16 w/ the cd-rom attachment. I also owned the TurboDuo. Sadly, I no longer own these systems....but it's on the list of things to get.
- How many games do you have for it?
None....for now.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
I remember I traded a friend a long box of comics for his TG-16 w/ cdrom, plus about 20 or so games.
TurboGrafx-16...
- What is your favorite game on this system?
Devil's Crush - I actually like video pinball games, but only if they are good - and this one is up there with the best. Now if only they could do some good modern ones...
- What are some of your other favorites?
Bomberman - I've always like this type of game. It's soooo much fun.
Galaga '90 - a classic on a classic game system. I love it!!!
Legendary Axe - love side scrolling hack'n slash games, and this is one of the best!
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Devil's Crush - never realized how good video pinball could be until this one came out. Glad it did. Just wish the ones that followed could be as good (there have been a few recently, but not many)
Alien Crush - I was expecting a good pinball video game, but this one just pissed me off. It's ok, but could have been so much better.
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Not really. I never saw a store display. I just picked one up when it was near the end of it production run. Wish I had seen one, I may have picked it up sooner, and been able to get some more games - they are hard to get now - making my collection rather small.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yes, as mentioned, I bought it just before it was dropped from the market.
Still have it. this is one of the few systems were I kept the original box and all the packing material
- How many games do you have for it?
Sadly, only three. I borrowed many games over the years, but these things are not easy to find. If you find them, they usually go for too much, or are the ones I don't want.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Nothing much here. Just that I wish the system had been more popular, and that more games had been produced (in numbers), so they weren't so hard to find today. I would really like to bump my collection up on this system, but I haven't bought a game for it in years.

I bought this system in 1991. It was marked at 99 bucks and on the downfall. It was my first bought system and I loved most of the games.
My favorites are Bomberman 93 and Parasol Stars.
I didn't care for Deep Blue or rpgs. I never liked rpgs. I'm more arcade/shooter/action kind of gamer.
My friends had the Genesis and SNES and I honestly still liked my TG16 but the library was unmatched. But I still enjoy playing those games and hopefully if I can find more of them, I'll get a larger library.
Highlights:::
On World Class Baseball, I pitched a perfect game against the Turbo Tigers. 27 strikouts. There's a certian curveball that stoops the hitters. I'm perfecting it again to prove it to my wife.
I stumbled into the extra levels in Parasol Stars, that was cool.
I beat both Bomberman games and held tournaments in my dorm room with the tg16 versions. Needless to say it's great to watch my friends squirm around in circles when they are block by bombs (boooom!)
I want to buy more games in ebay or here but they are way to pricey, (the ones I want!) Anyone have duplicates please contact me I am willing to trade I have a large collection of nes/snes/vectrx/dc games, or just pay for them through paypal
thanks!

I was a manager at my local Babbage's and they gave each store a brand new Sega Genesis and TG-16 system. Since I already have the Genesis, I decided to go for the Turbo. I was surprised that it was a very good system that was poorly marketed by NEC. I bought many games on clearance, including a bunch at Toy's R Us when they discontinued carrying TG-16.

I first had the oppurtunity to play it at a friends place (who's a huge collector). The System and the games got me immediatly hooked up. I spend the whole day playing Dracula X , Sapphire and other great games.
So when I went to Japan again n 2003 it was clear from the beginning that I wanted a PC Engine System. Unfortunately I only bought white loose one but it was enough for me then. Now I own nearly a 100 games and I'm trying to focus on completing my PC Engine Super-CD/CD2 collection.
I already got some good titles like Dracula X or even hard to find titles like Hi-Leg Fantasy and Gunhed Special Version. Now I need to get a complete DUO-RX so I have something good looking instead of my old PC-DUO R.

I figure i'll post in this topic now since the turbo is my favorite system at the moment. So here goes..
- What is your favorite game on this system?
I'd have to say Galaga '90. I'm a big fan of the original arcade game and this is a big improvement on that one IMHO.
- What are some of your other favorites?
blazing lazers,Ys series,Bonk's Revenge, Dracula x,Devil's Crush,Alien Crush, Dungeon Explorer, Bomberman '93, the list goes on
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Keith Courage and China Warrior suprised me beacause everyone's always saying how bad they are but I ended up having fun with them. Even the bad games on this system are fun. Legendary Axe has infuriated me during some of the hard parts, though I can say I never damaged any turbo pads.
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
My friend Corey had a turbo when I was kid(I had an sms and later a genesis). The first game I saw on there was bonk's revenge and I loved it right away. I remember thinking how much better it looked than my sms. After this I went to this dudes house all the time to play his turbo.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Didn't have one back in the day, though I played it quite a bit. I have a regular turbo grafx at the moment which I bought new from telegames awhile back. I'm in the process of buying a pc engine duo right now.
- How many games do you have for it?
I believe I only have 14 now. I'm trying to start buying more games for it though. I have some more coming in the mail.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Nothing really sticks out to me. Just a lot of playing my friends turbo with him when we were kids. We played a lot of multiplayer moto roader, dungeon explorer and bomberman.

- What is your favorite game on this system?
Galaga '90. My God this game is slept on.
- What are some of your other favorites?
Ninja Spirit, Devil's Crush, Bonk's Revenge, Air Zonk, Space Harrier, Splatterhouse, King of Casino, Blazing Lazers, Cyber Core, Neutopia
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
As if you couldn't guess from the list above, King of Casino suprised me because I got so damn addicted to it. Ninja Spirit infuriates me because of that goddamn last level. Splatterhouse infuriates me because of level 6's boss.
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
I think the first game I saw on it was Air Zonk. This was like 5 or 6 years ago, I had started collecting, and my initial reaction was "I must have this." And I STILL have never owned Air Zonk.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Not back den, got one now.
- How many games do you have for it?
7.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
Not really.

[quote="Black_Tiger"]I just updated my walkthroughs for Tengai Makyo: Fuun Kabuki Den & Night Creatures on GameFAQS.quote]
Where is this kabuki den faq at? I have had this game a few years and never got very far. I would really like to finish it. The poster that came with the game alone was worth the $3.00 i paid for the whole game.
I also thought night creatures was a sweet game. Not the best on the system, but something about draws me to it.
As for the duo sound issues. I think the best solution is just to get a super grafx with the cd attachment and the RAU 30 adaptor. I am thinking of going this route. Mainly cause I want ghouls n' ghosts, and my friend Jon (a member of the forums), has the same setup and his has worked flawlessly for years.
If you have not got dynastic hero yet, go get it! The best game for the system by far in my opinion. The japanese version is very easy to get. All you need is the wonderboy in monster world faq for the genesis game to complete it. Although, you could complete the game without a faq fairly easily though.

I couldn't let this thread go any further without mentioning Final Lap Twin and World Court Tennis. The quest modes in those games were great! Albeit short. If you are unfamiliar with them think dragon warrior for the nes but you have a tennis racket or a race car instead of a sword.
A couple other favorites of mine are
Dungeon Explorer
Bonk
Aero Blasters (my fave shooter)
Military Madness
Loom (for you point and click types)
Go play the quest mode of World Court Tennis now!

The PC Engine is up there with the best systems ever once the JP stuff is taken into account.
I like Cosmic Fantasy 2 personally, but it gets heavily overrated just because someone actually released it in English.
BTW, Spriggan one is great, but mark two is a much different game and is far inferior I hate to say.

Far more than it's worth, I guarantee you. I buy games to play myself (unless I see something like that selling for way less than normal of course). Sapphire isn't that much of a shooter IMO.
Some I like quite a bit I didn't see mentioned yet (I may have missed some that were mentioned, so excuse me if they were already).
Nexzr (Nice Naxat shmup)
Legend of Xanadu 1+2, nice Falcom ARPGs
Someone probably mentioned this already, but the port of SF2' is really nice (That's championship edition BTW).
Fray CD is really nice.
Kiki Kai Kai is really nice if you don't mind playing it in it's more ancient form (as opposed to on SNES).
Motoroader MC is a really nice (if difficult) overhead racing game.
Great version of Double Dragon 2. Basically like the NES version with enhanced graphics and gameplay.

Bloody Wolf is quite a good game.
btw today I was able to lay my hands on of the holy grails of the Turbo-16. Sapphire SEALED!
since 350$ is the price for a "mint" one, how much would it be for a sealed one?
Bloody wolf was a good one. As for the sapphire I would imagine its worth $500-$600. I have seen alot of sealed sapphires for sale on ebay. It is the only safe way to get this game. I know a japanese seller who use to sell this game alot, and he quit cause there were alot of people on ebay selling top quality ripoffs. Apparentally this is the most faked game on the system. 1 person had a copy and made alot of burns of it and distributed them. I know of a few people over at neo-geo.com that were sold bootleg copies of this game.
Another game that most people dont know of is Magicoal. It is a secret of mana type game. Kinda hard to play without japanese though. Faussette amour is another good one. It's kinda like bionic commando. I think I have played about every turbo game in the library except kaze kiri ninja action.
When it come to shooters magical chase, and blazing lazers are top notch. Nothing so far though has surpassed lords of thunder. Raiden and super star soldier are also good.
Has anoyone mentioned the valis games yet? It's one of those game you love or hate. I think valis 3 is realy good. It was very hard for me to beat that one. The last boss is so hard.
For all the megaman fans go get shockman. Its like megaman, but every other stage is a shooter level. The japanese games are called shubinbinman. I believe there are 3 in the series. 1 being a hu card, the other 2 are cd's.
There use to be a website www.pcecp.com
The PC Engine catalg project. It was shut down for awhile. Last i looked a few months back it was up.

I'd have to say Bonk's revenge is probably my most fav game on the TG.
Bonk's Adventure, Air Zonk, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (yes I actually like that game) fall into the other good games category.
Suprised, well the majority of the games I've played for the console suprise me. The TG16 has a style all it's own. As for Infuriated none.
The first time I saw it I actually thought that Nintendo had released the SNES early, I saw the stack of TG16 boxes at a distance and they actually said "NEC" on them but at that distance I thought it was NES. When I got up close I realized it wasn't the SNES but honestly I didn't really care when I played the system because I was so amazed by how awesome it was. I had to make a choice back then though it was either wait and save up to get the SNES or get a TG16 and in the end I got the SNES. I do have a TG16 these days w/a small collection of 13 games for it. It took a bit of effort to get it too. In 1999 a friend of mine found this particular TG16 at a goodwill store an bought it for next to nothing. I tried to buy it off of him but no price was good enough. Yrs went by and each year I would offer more w/no success. Finally in 2004 I gave him an offer he couldn't refuse, mint in box Sega Saturn 5 games and a Sega Master System w/3 games. He always wanted a Saturn and never got the chance to get one. I on the other hand was finding Saturns everywhere in 04. When he smelt it and it still had the factory newness scent He gave up and I finally got his TG16.

Ah, a thread about one of my all-time favorite systems :)
- What is your favorite game on this system?
Right now, it'd have to be Dracula X.
- What are some of your other favorites?
Blazing Lazers, Splatterhouse, Lords of Thunder, Bonk's Revenge, Air Zonk. As for imports, I'd also add Override and Download 2.
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Surprised: Gate of Thunder and Lords of Thunder both surprised me with their awesome music. :rocker: Download also surprised me with its...interesting Game Over messages ("I cannot f*** up for this!")
Infuriated: Legendary Axe- the dam area (I think it was the third level). Damn frog-men!
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
IIRC, a friend of my brother's gave me a video he got when the TurboFair(?) was in the area. It was a half-hour promo/introduction to the TurboGrafx, so it had video of some of the early titles, like Keith Courage, China Warrior (blech), and Blazing Lazers. I thought it was pretty cool (especially Blazing Lazers), and ended up getting one sometime after Christmas 1989.
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
Yeah, bought one January 1990. My first two games for it were Blazing Lazers and Dungeon Explorer. In fact, I still have it, but since I picked up a TurboDuo a few years back, it's been resigned to my bookcase.
- How many games do you have for it?
22 domestic (US) releases, 17 import releases.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
I still have my well-worn copy of "TurboGrafx-16 and TurboExpress Secrets" which was a welcome companion on my constant trips to Albany, NY (back in 1992). Hey, if I couldn't play TurboGrafx, I could at least read about it.

What is your favorite game on this system?
My favorite game is Blazing Lazers... I love Blazing Lazers.. It's the whole reason I have a TG 16.
- What are some of your other favorites?
Other games I enjoy Keith Courage.. Don't Laugh...
Legendary Axe, Bonk, Bonk's Revenge, and Galaga '90.
- What games surprised you? Infuriated you?
Blazing Lazers suprised me as to how much fun it is/ was. To this day it is one of my fav games on any system.
Keith Courage infuriated me, because I could never beat it... Still can't. i don't know why I have problems with it.
- Do you remember the first time you saw the system in action? What game was it? What was your reaction?
Ahh memories... I first saw a turbografx in action back in 88 or 89 in a Montgomery Wards store, maybe it was Sears, I'm not sure... I loved it instantly... I remember sitting there for hours playing Keith Courage... I would go to the mall with my parents or sister just to play the Turbografx for a while... It was almost better than going to the Arcade, maybe it was better, it was FREE!
- Did you own the system "back in the day"? How about now?
I never got to buy one back then, I had just got my first NES and my parents weren't going to fork out more money for another game system. That's why I bought one a few years ago... I just wish I had bought one sooner... I'm still saving for a Duo.
- How many games do you have for it?
I currently own only 11 games for it... but always looking to buy more. I hate buying them from Ebay, and I only know one store in my area with any games for it.
- Any stories surrounding the system that you can share with us?
I can't think of any....
One more thing... I love my Turbo.... One of my two favorites systems... It and my NES....
