I recently won this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:11&Item=5840936020) and sent payment through the "pay now" in the email Ebay autosends. when I noticed I payed to a non-registered paypal account.

I checked the other email I had been corresponding with the seller on and it's a verified paypal account. So I canceled the payment and sent him an email asking which one he wanted payment sent to.

My thinkning is he mistakingly used the non-paypal email account and I could be saving him a real hassle (which he might be grateful for)

or

He was trying to avoid some fees or something (I have yet to sell something on ebay) which then I might have ticked him off some.

so did I do the right thing. I don't think I'm wrong in what I did. But I wanted some input from some of you that are much more experianced with selling on ebay.

thanks

You fully intend on paying, so I don't see anything wrong at all. He knows he's not supposed to avoid fees, so if he was, I doubt he would give you a hassle if you wanted to pay to his real account.

You did the right thing. He probably just typed the PayPal address into turbo lister wrong or something. If it let you cancel the payment, then it wasn't a registered account (i.e. nobody had registered with that e-mail address, and PayPal will send a notification to that address that they have money to claim if they sign up) I'm sure he'll e-mail you back and be appreciative, not only for sending the payment to the correct address, but to notify him of the error.

P.S. It wouldn't have anything to do with avoiding fees. If you pay with a CC through PayPal, the recepient always pays the fees, verified or not. Hence when people require non-CC PayPal, they don't want to upgrade to a premier account and have the fee taken on all transactions..... usually.
