Check this out the full version of Half-Life done completely in the source engine. Far way from being complete but it looks really awesome. The game will be almost indentical to the first game but with new graphics and physics.

This is fairly old (but totally kick ass) news. It just goes you show that if you don't do it, we will.

:O!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Almighty Satchel Charge (my baby) looks awesome as well.

Yes, I've known about this for a while, but I hadn't visited until now. Thanks for the link.

Confused, I thought the original was already done for the source engine as Half-Life Source?

That was a cash-in from Valve, or perhaps a gimme for collector's edition purchasers.

This is a real remake!

Yup, the only differences in that version were the water.... and a new model here and there.

Same old blurry textures, same lighting, looked terrible.

This looks awesome, I can't wait till it is completed.

You also got it for free with the Silver Edition, which was the best buy anyway since it also included Day of Defeat Source for $10 cheaper than it would have been to buy it when it came out and included every gldSrc game released (well, eventually....took a while to get the Blue Shift stuff sorted out).

It was simply a demonstration of how easy it is to port existing gldSrc data to the Source engine. For a freebie, it was pretty damn nice. New effects (water, smoke, etc), havok physics (which unfortunatly means no gibbing, but now crap falls much nicer and one of the earliest noticable examples is when you have to hop across those suspended boxes about 10 minutes into the game), and higher geometry in the environment.

Really, it's not the "cash in" everyone makes it out to be, it's just not as extensive as everyone was hoping it'd be. That's why I'm so excited for this mod.

edit-

Well that's a disappointment, I've been waiting for the day I can buy HL2, DoD Source, and HL Source cheaply together.

You could have if you had bought the HL2:Silver pack on Steam within the first year of the game being out. Considering everything you got with it "out of the box", it was one of the best game deals ever. Considering all of the user created content that's available for free (USS Darkstar, They Hunger, Poke646, Heart of Darkness, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc), it WAS the best deal ever :)

Thought it was going to be something special. :/

Cant you buy the silver og gold package in the stores? So you can get HL source.

I think they are talking about direct downloads you can get from steam. You can go to the store and buy HL 2 game of the year edition that will include Hl source, CS source, HL 2 deathmatch and half-life 2.

No, it was Steam only and a way to entice people to give Steam a shot (I'm damn glad I took a leap of faith on it :) ). The initial retail versions were equivellent to the Bronze (normal) and Gold (collector's Edition) packages but with the inclusion of disc-based copy protection (which later got removed, thank god).

That's another thing I love about Steam...I never have to worry about traditional copy protection. I just log in and play. If I formatted the ol' HD and the game isn't on the computer, it'll automatically download any of the games I want. It's like Valve did the impossible and found a way to make it too convenient to bother pirating :)

Wait a minute... I might be totally misunderstanding those last 2 posts. Are you saying that you can't buy Half-Life Source at a store?? Because I know for a fact that my local Wal-Mart has them. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying, if so, ignore this. :D

The only way to get it at retail is to buy the Half Life 2 Collector's Edition box set. It doesn't come bundled with the normal retail edition and it's not included with the Counter Strike Source box.

If you want to get it separately, it's only $10, but you're much better off going for one of the bundle deals. The Source Premier Pack sells at $60 and includes all of the source stuff, or you can get the Valve Complete pack at $80 which is pretty much what the Silver Edition was last year. A little bit of a markup, but still well worth it :)

Hopefully this game actually gets finished. Seems like all the fan remakes get the axe evetually and never see the light of day.

Yea, too many mod teams try to shoot right for the moon and get burnt out way too early on. That's one of the things I love about Minerva: Metastasis ...it's a return to the old school concept of a map at a time by a single developer. Shorter, more manageable development times, and instead of a never-going-to-get-released-TC we get a high quality single player map.

Reminds me of the good old Single Player Quake mapping days when people like Neil Manke, Iikka Keranen, and Dario Casali (to name a few!) were knocking out some flat out amazing stuff on a damn near non-stop basis :)
