Best Buy and the Xbox 360

So, by complete chance I called my local Best Buy and asked if they were going to be getting any new 360's in before Christmas yesterday. To my surprise the employee I talked to said these exact words with a slight chuckle, "why yes! yes we are getting 28 systems in on Sunday morning!" The man was excruciatingly excited to tell me the good news. The guy also mentioned that all Best Buys will be receiving new shipments in on Friday(today) and they will be going on sell Sunday morning.

I realized that this is a perfect opportunity for those who are really wanting to pick a 360 up before Christmas, and for those who don't really want to pay the ungodly prices they are going for on ebay.

I'm one of those people! Anyone else going to go wait in line in Sunday morning?

I did it once already, not again.

Though, I should tell an interest story. I originally pre-ordered two Xbox 360s from GameCrazy. I was told I would not get launch ones, but second shipment. Then Microsoft announced that they would have a shortage, and I was told by GameCrazy, that they had no clue when I would receive mine. So Oobgarm and I waited outside of Best Buy all night to get ours. I went back to GameCrazy and after fighting with the manager and three tried, got my money refunded. Well, out of the blue I get a phone call from GameCrazy yesterday telling me they got one in for me and they can hold it for so long. I have a feeling, many places are going to see shipments in this week and next.....

I was toodling around online a few days ago and gamestop.com had premium 360's in stock (just systems not a forced bundle buy) and most of my local stores at least had 1 if not 4+ units in stock as well. It also looks like EB.com had some last night when I checked there as well.

This makes me mad, seeing as I am still on a pre order list for my 360 at the Gamestop I work at super part time :roll:



I know a forum member here(name will not be given) works at the Best Buy near me and he said that his store is getting alot @_@ (maybe I will go this route)

I have known about this for a few weeks, and I plan on checking to see if there is anyone on line saturday at 1pm, if so Im gonna start camping then for the opening on 9am sunday morning.

Yeah well.... I bet those systems in their stores are pre-order reserves and not available for general sales. I didnt even think about trying for one. I'll get one sooner or later, its not the end of the world if I don't get one till January or something.

The GameCrazy I go to already has about 20 of them right now, (I saw them). It sucks though because Me and some other guy couldn't buy any because they were already reserved for preorders.

I know a guy that is gonna get in line at Best Buy at 2:00pm on Saturday.

Funniest thing is that due to some BBs forcing people to buy bundles to get a 360 at launch, sales reps aren't supposed to be pushing attachments nearly as hard on 360s as corporate normally expects them to. They've gotten totally gun shy due to all the bad PR, even incorporating launch day 360 purchases into their holiday return policy (January 26 for returns, even taking opened games in this case). Ironically, those forced bundles weren't even the worst (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=B020253P).

My brother just went to best buy with his 2 friends. To late, already 50 people in line. Went to another and once again another 50 people in line.

Oh well, I have mine and I am getting him and his friend one from EB (i work there) but he doesnt want to wait the extra week after xmas.

I was at the Best Buy in Woodbridge NJ, today around 2:30 this afternoon and the there were already about 10 people in line. When I was browsing the DVD section I overhead an associate on the radio asking if they were getting any systems in since people were already in line. The response was they were already in stock and that they would be put out on Sunday morning.

I half want to drive by tonight after closing and see how many people have joined the line.

yeah, all the best buys have had the systems since like tuesday or wednesday, but its in the sunday ad, so they were all put on hold til then.

I heard some Walmarts will be recieving some new shipments on Tuesday, but that may be just a rumor.

Here is my little story from Best Buy. I was thinking Saturday that I would go up to my local BB around 1 am to see if anyone was in line, and if there wasn't I was going to wait it out. The thing is, my 'local' Best Buy is an hour and a half away. Anyway, I was only expecting like 15 people to be in line already. I was dead wrong. There were about 30 people lined up and I was number 33. The Huntington Best Buy only had 30 systems in their inventory (28 premium, 2 pussy packs). I was so disappointed. That's just how it is in the cut throat business of console launches.

Damn the hardcores.

Hopefully Walmart will get some in before my Christmas break starts. :)

Oh what a funny day! We received 50 (2 cores) at my store and after the first guy arrived at 1pm on Thursday, I knew I'd be screwed trying to get one from my own store. Saturday night, they decided to take names since people were cutting (boo hoo) which of course was a horrible idea. Tickets were being sold this morning a few hours before opening. One guy had a freaking tent sent up by the door, lol.

It was pretty funny when after they let everyone in this morning, they forgot to plug in the damn register set up in the back and had to make everyone wait about another 20 minutes while it booted up. After everyone got their systems, most people went outside and started selling them right on the sidewalk. Management called the cops, but what the hell are they gonna do?

We are getting another shipment soon, but I garuntee best buy will use their whorish tactics and keep them in the back until the day after xmas, so they'll have something to generate a huge buzz that day over returns. One funny thing about this sale, was that NO systems were bundled anywhere unless the GM was an idiot. Corporate would not allow it after last time, and from what I heard, they reviewed every stores sales tactics and fired about 40 GMs throughout different stores because of how the 22nd was run at certain locations.

Possibly it’s just me but I am still amazed at how much of a cluster-F this is. This debacle only fortifies the fact that I will never again buy a launch console. I thought the N64 and PS2 launches were a mess…they were smooth compared to this.

The PS3 is going to be a nightmare of biblical proportions…I’m staying clear of that one as well.

Just a heads up, there is a rumor going around confirmed by Kotaku.com that Best Buy will be receiving new shipments of 360's on the 22nd. Im not sure how reliable it is, but it's worth a trip. :)

Well, something funny (humorous) just happened here about 1/2 an hr ago on our local news.

They ended the program w/ a story about the latest shipment of Xbox360s to arrive at Best Buy, & the diehards that waited in subzero cold over 24 hrs to get one. (& it's been below avg temps here lately.)

They talked to one guy, who said he'd been there since 6am Sat. morning, & the reporter questioned whether it was worth the wait. "It will be, when I get it."

Then the anchor said "Unfortunately, that guy died just after the interview ended...no, I'm just kidding!" It was pretty funny. They then went back to the studio & the anchorwoman (who's quite a dish) said sarcastically "y'know, as a single girl, that's really attractive." Then SHE reiterated she was just joking.

i went to best buy at 6 am and there was already about 100 people there.
so i left and decided to go to wal mart, walked in and a guy that dropped another guy off behind us at best was walking out of electronics at wal mart sayinh they didnt have any 360 systems in and didnt know when they would have them.
so i wakl over to toys to look around and i decide to go back to electronics before i left to look at games one more time just in case i looked over a game i might want.
the employees was huddled around a box and take it over to the game case and set it in without opening the shipper, so i go look and sure enough there were a sealed case of 2 xbox 360 core system.
so i went to get a employee and a guy walked up and asked if they had any 360 systems and the guy was like yeah.
so he walked over and cut the box open and out come 2 core systems.
i asked the guy when i was checking out if they would be getting more soon, and he said not for awhile
so as far as i know there was only 34 systems sent out to my area today.

Lauch systems typically have more problems than non-launch systems. The overheating and disc scratching issues are mostly due to user ignorance, and largely over-blown. I would try playing with an actual system rather than going off of what you "heard."
