I received the 2005 Video Game Price Guide from Amazon today. It's put out by videogamecollecting.com. This is the third year in a row that I purchased this book of nonsense and once again I ask the author of this book where I could buy games at the prices listed.

The cover of the 2005 edition says that the prices have been completely updated and he is correct. For instance, here's the price of Commavid's Video Life from last three editions:

2003 - $6
2004 - $40
2005 - $90!

The website has this to say about the book:

"In contrast to other guides and "bibles", the Video Game Price Guides from VideoGameCollecting.com are updated annually to reflect the changing prices of the marketplace. You can be sure when you pick up a copy, that you are holding the best reference you can have to properly value your collection."

Who publishes this joke of a reference guide?

Those Video Life prices are completely out of whack. What kind of lightweights put this together (who are "Highland Dynamics Inc." anyway)?

"In contrast to other guides and "bibles"
Ouch, that's low.

Somebody hit up Amazon with a review. Won't be me, obviously, as I've never read it...and I'm not wasting money on this. Thanks for the heads-up, Rolenta!

Added: For fun, I went through their other books (all two of them). Seems that the 2003 edition got some negative reviews, but in '04 the only reviews were negative. I see the other guy recommends the DP book! Technically a no-no, but it's great to see justice served. Looks like somebody didn't find those comments helpful, though (I did). LOL

Did they just start or something? I barely see any forum posts for them and they don't even have lists for all systems up. :eek 2:

Well, the've released price guides for at least the past three years so they can't be that new. Uninformed maybe but not new.

LOL

That price is hilarious. It reminds me of a 1972 Comic Book price guide that values Amazing Fantasy 15 at $90. At least it's excuse is that it was probably pretty accurate for 1972.

You know why its so bad? Because one of their head writers wasn't drinking a Corona while writing it.
Its simple.

At least the prices aren't way too high.
