The N-Gage IMO is the true portable gaming system. I'm definitely not saying its a better system than the PSP or DS its simply more portable which is what they are supposed to be. I have the N-Gage QD and that thing is built like a rock. I use it as my cell phone everyday and it gets dropped, kicked and drop kicked. It has a rubber edge that seems to save it when it falls but it also seems to come off over time (easily replaced on ebay). Yes the screen is small and vertical but you don't have to worry about damaging it since it has a heavy plastic cover.

The N-Gage has some great games that would warrant it being purchased just to play the games but using it as a gaming phone will show you just what Nokia was smoking when they dreamed up this idea. With games like Rifts, Pathway to Glory, High Seize, System Rush, Catan, Asphalt Urban GT 1&2, Glimmerati and others its a great time killer and boredum saver. Cell phones have gotten better games but this is like having ps1 quality games on your phone. I spend more time playing N-Gage games than any other system I own and its not because I think it has the best games. I always have it with me wherever I go since its my phone. A ride on the light rail and waiting to get new tires on my car are spent playing some kid in Sweden a game of Pathway to Glory. That's because the N-Gage has a truly anywhere online service. I think that its pretty cool that I can ride the light rail in Sacramento CA while I play some kid in Sweden riding a bus. That is true online gameplay. The N-Gage is a great system that would've been a sucess if they hadn't had such a train wreck of a launch. The launch will probably go down in video game history as one if not the very worst. Only time will tell if it was worth Nokia's time and money to stick around even when there system was failing.

You can now get a N-Gage for free with five games for free with a service contract. You can also get it for $99 without service but if you have a cell phone or need a cell phone I highly recommend this as your phone. Its probably the cheapest way to get a Nokia Smartphone which has some incredible programs. One that I like is using my N-Gage as a remote control for my computer. Very cool if you watch movies, play music or need a wireless controller for games on your computer.

*I'm also a little drunk right now. I don't think that really effects how portable the N-Gage is but I thought I'd also leave this as a disclaimer.

It's true most of my post are only about 2 lines. OE is all I can afford after spending so much money on video games LOL

I just wanted to make sure people understand that you don't need to be drunk to buy or play a N-Gage.

The N-Gage is a great system to have with you at all times like today when I got dragged around the greater Sacramento area with my GF. I like that when I play it I just look like some nerdy guy inputing stuff on his cell phone instead of some nerdy guy playing video games in public (which I've also been since my local bar has wifi I sometimes play Mario Kart online there).

Are you sure your name isn't Sega_Gamer or Diabolical TLR on GameFAQs? You sound like an Ngage salesmen. LOL

Anyway, all kidding aside, is there any point to buying an Ngage if I already have a PSP and DS?

Note: I'm not trying to start a fight, please don't take it that way. I'm just asking a true and honest question. Handheld fan to Handheld fan. 8-)

Wondering the same thing, especially if it isn't for a cell phone.

LOL I do post on GameFAQs sometimes but I use the same name I do here. Those guys are just as crazy as the tolls they feed over there.

With kidding aside I'd say no if you're just looking for another handheld. I'm a believer that the N-Gage is a cell phone. If you're not going to use it as a phone your getting rid of half of what it was made for.

Although I'd say yes if you were looking for a handheld to take with you everywhere you go. IMO only the N-Gage and GBA Micro are small enough to take everywhere. If you do most of your handheld gaming at home like I do with my DS than you probably don't need a N-Gage.

The N-Gage does a lot of shit and seems to hold at least a $70 price tag even used on Ebay. That might be a little too high for people to get one just to play Rifts, High Seize and System Rush.

I thought it could do emulators too? If so, could you tell us about that?

everybody gather round as I tell you the story of the N-Gage emulators.

It does: Nes, Snes, GB, GBC, Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, NGPC, C64, Mame and a few others. While they all run pretty good I only really use it for Game Boy games since the others due to the screen size either get cropped or squished.

but it also plays MP3's and movies (yeah the screen is small but cartoons look pretty good on it and an episode of the Family Guy is a nice time killer). I can use the internet (yes the real internet not just that WAP crap). I've used the internet for looking up directions and phone numbers (no hot spot needed).

all the extra stuff is because its a series 60 Nokia phone. which are great phones and can cost a bunch of money. The N-Gage is probably the cheapest way to get one of these phones.

Ok, thank you very much for a true and honest opinion on the system. I might pick one up if I can for cheap, just because I like trying out all systems and games. But for now I might wait since I already have a decent cell phone and all.

Thanks again, btw I'm BlueToiletDuck on GameFAQs(yeah the one that always gets modded). LOL

Another good feature of the NGage is that, being a Symbian Series 60, it can play THOSE games along with the NGage's library.

true, there are some great Series 60 Shmups and a bunch of good puzzlers. Two genres that aren't available on the N-Gages comercial releases (since Puzzle Bobble Vs & Puyo Pop suck on the N-Gage).

It is a good system. I have been a fan of the N-Gage as soon as I realized that I can do so much more with it in terms of playing Series 60 games and applications. Now, Some nice games are coming out. Just so sad that they will never hit the public on a wide scale. Nokia should have thought things differently in many aspects from the start for sure....maybe next time. Until then, the "N-Gage Underground" will be the only ones enjoying what it REALLY has to offer.

I still say that an emulator might have made N-gage sell more.

I mean, really, I WANT to try a lot of these games, but the only time I've ever seen a unit in a store to try, it didn't even have a game in it, and it was way early in the cycle (ie, before any of the games i wanna try came out). Dissapointing.

If there was an emulator, people would download it for laughs, and probably end up liking one of the games, possibly leading to purchase. But hey, gotta watch out for that theoretical lost revenue right?

well the funny or not so funny thing is that the games for the N-Gage are easily downloaded in dark places of the internet in fact most people playing N-Gage games over on the N-Gage forums haven't actually bought that many games. I'm not so sure how much emulation would have helped. I still think its biggest selling point is being a PS1 quality gaming phone.

Oh, I know the roms are out there, but I want to try the games before I have to buy the most expensive part after all. LOL

Honestly, some of the titles do look interesting, and it does have a pretty good number of exclusives really. I'll have one someday I'm sure.

well I just enjoyed a 6 1/2 hour car ride with my parents to Grandmas house for Christmas and I got a chance to play several games of Pathway to Glory online against some fellow N-Gagers. While my parents were driving down I-5 with not much around and not a wi-fi location around I thought to myself this is what portable online gaming is about.

played several great matches along the way I'm not sure the exact amount of time spent playing but it was probably well over 3 hours of the trip on and off and I've made quite a few phone calls and still haven't recharged it yet.

if you get the right games this system truely rocks.

Just wondering, if you buy one of these do you have to have Cingular to use it as a phone? Because I'm tied to Sprint...

I don't think you can use it as a phone with Sprint. I think T-mobile and Cingular are the only ones that have it. You can of course always just get the prepaid one and use it just for gaming.
