Anyone tried this out? Tons of games from multiple systems available to download. I'm wondering if it is worth a shot.

they run TV ads for that site all the time here. I have zero intrest in it since I don't like playing games on my computer. If I didn't like playing free roms on my computer I'm probably not going to like paying for them. But if they sent me free nachos everytime I played a game I might try it.

Good points, of which I totaly agree.

You can play all of these games for free already using emulators. The systems of choice for this service BTW are some of the oldies, and Sega systems I hear along with arcade hits. Nintendo and Sony will not provide any of their systems games to the service, and as for Microsoft, who cares as as far as I know there is no yey fully working PC Xbox emulator. And as for all the Sega systems, I hear that their DC emulation is still very buggy and that those few games may sometimes crash, so just go with Crankcast emulator to play DC games on a PC.

EDIT: I am almost positive that this has been brought up a few times on the forumns already.

One plus that they have is the commercials on G4 had a fre trial version.
So then you could have some legal roms at least ;)

I haven't even really check them out yet.

The first time i saw the commercial i thought it was another GameFly style company.

But later i realized they are more like a hybrid version of Direct2Drive and similair sites.

One thing that's interesting about a service like this is that it takes away the "I can't buy these games anywhere, so I have to download the ROM" excuse from the pirates.

I wonder what the next excuse will be...

I have to pay $15 a month for these ROMs, which is WAAAAAAY overpriced?

Yup, probably.

This also happens to be the reason I don't like it. I mean, $15 a month adds up to $160 a year. Are you honestly willing to have to pay $160, year after year, just for these games?

For all of the people who think Emulation is ok because companies don't make money off these games anymore, ..., what do you think now? If it's on Gametap, you're stealing if your not paying for the service. Obviously the original copyright holders get compensation for making their games available. So, thanks to gametap, you can no longer cry "victemless crime." Find a new excuse :D !

Someone else here @ work got it for like $1 / year for beta-testing it. He plays it sometimes.

I, for one, don't like the idea at all. I'd rather be able to purchase the games piecemeal for a low cost per game - and keep them - than to pay a gatekeeper fee to access all of them (and then have my access shut off when I stop paying).

I used a free trial and didn't think too much of it. I have most of my favorite games on compilation discs anyway so I can play them without sitting in front of my computer, and the emulation was kind of buggy. Not really worth the $10-15/month they want for it IMO.
