you'd own a lot of games for.

I got to thinking about my collection and how shocked my PS1 and PS2 have grown in comparison to systems i prefer more (GCN, DC, Genesis, even wonderswan). although my collection isnt the largest, 527 games, i have 62 ps1 titles and 60 ps2 titles alone and its a little unnerving even though its stuff i do enjoy.

My question is, are you shocked that certain parts of your collection have grown more than others?

I'm a bit surprised with my SNES collections size. It started with 6-8 and the system last December and surprisingly climbed to 50 after my purchase of Legend of the Mystical Ninja last weekend. I think it's because I don't have the system hooked up all the time (I have little nostalgic attatchment to it, I grew up on the Genesis). It's one of my rotation systems, and I'm finding that I buy games for it faster than I play them :(

Im also surprised with my Snes collection.
Back when the Snes first came out, I got SF2 and that was the only game I had for a long time. lets face it, back then those carts cost a lot. Then came Mortal Kombat 2, and I just had to have it. At the time I was only interested in fighting games.

I cant say I have a massive collection like most of you, but I guess like everyone else, you venture into other types of games. From Shumps to Action games.

I am very shocked how at many Genesis games I have. I don't try to collect for it, but yet I have the 2nd most games for it. 52 to be exact. I am never looking for genesis games or really buying them it seems like but somehow I have quite a bit for the system.

I'm suprised I have so few tg 16 games. I'm allways looking for games but can never find any for it.

PC Engine. I'm up to 26 titles for it, and a lot of them were found in the wild. It seems to be easier to collect for than the TG16 in the US.

In terms of playing, XBox has continued to surprise me. I'd kept putting it off, and then I finally had to get one when I already had a handful of games for it. The controller is great for 3D games and the graphics never cease to amaze.

In a collecting sense, I am still shocked at how many Saturn imports I have amassed and still play on a regular basis. The recent low cost of importing has made it my favorite system. I'm up to 55 and think of all kinds of games I want every day.

Finally, it is surprising to me how little time I give the SNES. I have a nice sized collection (123), but, with the exception of the classics that I have beaten to death, there really isn't all that much to keep me interested. It's funny that, even with its reduced color pallette and (subjectively) weaker sound, the Genesis has really aged better for me from a gameplay perspective. Must be all those Sega arcade favorites. Certain SNES games are still above and beyond (Actraiser comes immediately to mind), but the vast majority of non A-list games are pretty weak. Plus, the SNES had a tough time with shmups, and that takes it down a few notches with me.

All of mine really...
As a kid, I always dreamed about having all of the NES, SNES or N64 games, but I never thought anybody could ever do it. I had imagined that there were 1000's of released games for each of them and I wouldn't even know where to find one of them.

A few years back, i went rpg crazy, and after masses of money, eventually got every ps1 rpg released in the US. After that, I left ps1 alone and started working on the N64 collection, and have been since, but now that i look at it, the ps1 collection is still growing right along. I seem to find more ps1 games in the wild now then n64. Also, when EB had that buy 2, get one free sale.

NES and Mega Drive.

I have 37 and 49 games respectively placing them at the 2nd and 5th largest game libraries in my collection.

It suprises me because I'm not a big fan of either console. :/

Whilst I don't hate the Mega Drive, I certainly don't hold too much love for it. It feels like the weaker, less powerful 16-bit console and I find the SNES far superior (in terms of games AND graphics/audio). I've gotten so many because:

1. A LOT of them are multiplatform games that whilst also being available on SNES (and usually a bit better), they're MUCH cheaper and easier to acquire for the Mega Drive.

2. I've tried to like the console, and as such, I've tried to buy more and more of it's acclaimed games. It's not really worked, though a few surprise gems have popped up over the years (e.g. Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Street of Rage II).

As for the NES, well, it's REALLY confusing. I really don't like this console. Underpowered, severely inferior to the Master System and lacking in a variety of decent games. Multiplatform releases are always better on other platforms, the standard controller is terrible and the front loading system is problematic. But, in an endeavour to find games to make the system worthwhile for me, I went out bought heaps for it, in the hope something good would come of it. Plus it's as equally cheap to collect for as the Mega Drive. However, for every one good game, there's about 10 AWFUL ones.

PC, oddly enough.

It must be a tradeoff for not being able to find hardly anything console at my nearby thrifts, but for some reason I find a surprisingly large number of older PC games. Most of the stuff is in pretty good shape too, and at 2-4 bucks each...

I look over right now and see at least 8 boxed, mostly complete PC games that are probably older than any machine I've ever owned. And even weirder, I tend to find newer games too. Shortly after the sims2 came out, a goodwill had three copies for 20 bucks each. I've seen lineage II, cold fear, nitro family, and one of the neverwinter nights expansions at the closest goodwill, none of them were over 5 dollars. Craziness.

Me too. I only have 1 TG16 game and its Bonk's Adventure.

Suprisingly I have 32 games for NGCD which I never thought I would have since I had the games before the system.

I am very shocked how at many Genesis games I have. I don't try to collect for it, but yet I have the 2nd most games for it. 52 to be exact. I am never looking for genesis games or really buying them it seems like but somehow I have quite a bit for the system.

Me too. Being predominantly an Atari collector I'm sort of shocked to see that my combined stack of Genny titles (cart/32X/CD) is now the 2nd largest component of my collection at 65 titles (versus 265 for the Atari 2600).

How the heck did this happen :? ? First I was given a Genesis with a few blah sports titles. I remember initially shopping around for other titles and being just nauseated at the never-ending succession of run-and-shoot platformers, but I had to get something to play on the system. First I decided to make board-game ports (Risk, Monopoly etc) a focus of collecting for the thing so that helped. I would get titles I thought my kids would like (Toy Story, Primal Rage), Every now and then I'd pop across a decent RPG or RTS in the wild (Shining Force, Dune, Warrior of Rome II, General Chaos, Herzog Zwei). Lastly I became a late-to-the-party fan of Sonic the Hedgehog and went after all of those. After a while I guess it all started to add up.

It also helped that I like playing with game hardware a lot. So Genesis with all its forward and backward-compatible add-ons is a lot of fun to noodle around with. Possibly this week I might be scoring a Nomad, too :D .

Huh. Never would have imagined in a million years I would be such a fan of a post-NES system, but here I am with the stack of stuff to prove it.

Without a long story, I am surprised with the amount of Playstation 1 games, I didn't really mean to start collecting them, just saw a lot of games I wanted and played when it first came out

I'd say 3do or SNES. I've been quite lucky with 3do, and have aquired quite a few decent titles, all complete. 22 to be exact. Doesn't sound like a lot, but 3do aren't all too common in the wild, which is where they have ALL come from.

My 2nd most surprising is SNES. I've been lucky enough to get about 75 great games for it, and since I own about 2000 snes boxes, it's quickly grown. I've got all the great rpgs and shooters, with only a few left that I still want. Damn you ninja gaiden trilogy! I believe the only games I have cart only that I really wish I had complete are Megaman 7, Megaman X3, Mountain Bike Rally and Breath of Fire II.

x68000 and some of the other obscure systems I have some stuff for - had you asked me around 2000 about those I would've likely given you a blank stare.

I'm somewhat surprised I ended up finding as many worthwhile Xbox games as I have - probably close to twenty now.

Nowadays i´m very surprised with my Famicom collection and also with my Atari 2600 collection, two systems that are not easy to collect here (the Famicom cos there are no carts and the 2600 cos the carts are very expensive), but, i couldn´t spend a lot of money and i have a pretty one collection...not bad

N64 without a doubt.

I probably have about 30 or so complete games and another 50 or so loose while I don't think I ever connected the console to my television set.

I really have no interest at all in this system. I usually end up getting these games in bundles that I buy.

When I got the system I had none, now I have like 15. Plus these games are next to impossible to find in the wild (well in my home town at least).

I'm happy to have built up my Gamecube and GBA collection over the last couple of years to 22 and 25 games respectively.

Not a big collection, it's a quality over quantity thing, with priority on personal favorites (Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Metroid).

My PS1 game collection is coming up nicely too, not big either, but has some of the best games for the console (14 games, highlights are the Lunars and SotN).

N64
SNES (US games at least)

Sega guy is all I have to say... ok I lied. I never owned one of the above systems before four years ago. I'm an old guy too!

I'm not a big NES fan but I have around 300 games for it. They're just too easy to come by. I suspect there are some that feel the same way about the Genesis.

I just recently bought a 3rd Jaguar game.

That is surprising just because I have many other, better systems to spend my money on.

Just shows me that I never learn.
