Anybody know of any type of trick to buying a PSP with a 2.0 firmware? I want to get a brand new one. I just don't like the idea of buying a used one, when I don't know if somebody has dropped it, and how many dead pixels it has, and if it has any issues or anything. Really, I would like to buy one at Costco, considering Costco's return policy is solid gold. But I don't want to buy one with a firmware that I can't downgrade, because I need to be able to play the emulators on it.
I want to play Kid Chameleon on the go.
Also, does anybody know of any special buys on 2GB memory sticks or any other accessories that are recommended?

I really can't help you out there, but if all you're looking for is a portable emu machine, save yourself some money and get a GP2X.

Sweet Jesus! Thanks man, that is hecka cool. I hope it actually works. I think I'm going PSP shopping tomorrow!
Can anybody post this pic in the thread:
http://www.britishgaming.co.uk/wp-content/pspfirmware.jpg
And this corresponding info:
No Letter = 1.50 (North-American release) Confirmed
A = 1.50
B = 1.51
C = 1.52
D = 2.00 Unconfirmed
E = 2.00 Unconfirmed (likely 1.52)
F = 2.00
G = 2.01 or higher (avoid)
I think this information is extremely helpful to anybody shopping for a PSP this holiday. The best bet is to find a F floating around.

The firmware downgrader works really well, though people have started to get the emu's to work on 2.00.

So, now the question is....What is the best deal out there on a large PSP memory thing?
Like 1GB or even 2GB.

I'm thinking of buying this
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=158092&_LOC=US
Will this work with a PSP without any problems?
It does say this...."With the use of the included adapter, it can be used in all PRO-compatible devices. This is a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo."
Does that mean I'm going to have to use some damn adapter to be able to use it with the PSP? I just want a normal Memory stick thing to stick in it, without having to have some adapter thing sticking in there, and then something else sticking into the adapter.
Pardon my ignorance on this issue. I've never actually handled a PSP, so I really don't know crap about how the memory sticks are used, or whether or not they stick out of the unit, etc, etc.
This seems like a good deal, but I don't want to buy it, if I have to use some weird adapter with it, and I have something sticking out from the PSP making it uncomfortable and fugly.

That's the right kind of mem card. You would need an adapter to use it with devices that use memory stick pros. That one will work in a PSP without an adapter.

Cool. I just bought one from that place. I guess this means that I need to buy a PSP!

ok, now, the slightly modified topic is what retail store in California would likely have a PSP that hasn't been sold in a long time?
Can you think of any unconvential place that carries PSP's, that might have one that would go unsold for a really long time?

Don't know of any, but if you want a V1.5 PSP, just pick up a new one with V2.0 and downgrade to V1.5. I did it for a friend who bought a Giga Pack a couple weekends ago and it's real easy to do.

Yeah the downgrade works really well.

I ended up buying a used PSP from EBGames for $199.99. It's a 2.0 version. It looked really clean and in good condition, so I said F it.
I also got a 1 gig memory stick duo thing.
Ok, I've seen the instructions on how to do the downgrade, but for a retard like me, I'm worried that I'm going to screw something up. For somebody that's already done the downgrade and is familar with the PSP, it's probably super easy. To me, I look at those instructions and I just think...."Shit, I'm going to end up screwing something up!"
So I was hoping that maybe somebody here that is familar with the process could kinda walk me through it. If you have XBOX 360 and can get on XBOX Live, then I can chat with you, or if you have AOL instant messenger, then I can communicate that way.
If anybody has any spare time and they can help me out, I would really appreciate it. I'm very anxious to get this thing up and running, so I can get some emulator action going on my PSP.
PM me if you can help. My AOL name is TapDatAzz916. My XBOX 360 gamertag is AntTapDatAzz.

I dont know it working on 2.00 I think thats version changer so you dont have to really upgrade to play the newer games , but could be just the downgrade.

Man, Jibba Jabba really hooked me up nice. I found him on AIM, and slowly but surely coerced him into walking me through the downgrade process.
I wasn't quite totally sober too!
But he was able to be calm and walk me through it, and I'm incredibly grateful for bro to take some time out like that and help me. It's a dream come true for me to be playing Turbo games on the PSP. (By the way, is there a option menu you can get in while running the TG-16 emulator? Any way to force it fullscreen?)
Anyways, much love to Jibba Jabba. I definitely owe bro a decent SNES cart or something.

Yeah, there is. I think it's the L shoulder button or L on the analog stick but I'm not positive. Once you find out what it is though you can change the viewing option to 4:3 or full screen.

Hmmm. For some reason, I can't seem to get into the options. I tried hitting the L shoulder button and L on the analog stick, and I tried alot of other things, but never could get into any option menu.

What emulator are you using? I know there are 2 different TG-16 ones for the PSP. The better of the two definitely has an emu options menu in it. Maybe you are using the crappy one?

No there is a way to play emu's on 2.00 systems so you don't need to downgrade or upgrade. I know, I've tried it.
