do turbo grafx controls work with pcengine?

are these controllers interchangable? i bought a pcengine with r-type form a friend in canada for 25 shipped, didn't work he told me, wouldn't power on, turned out a fuse blew, so i replaced it only to find out the controller is damaged, the wire got yanked form the connector enough to make it work all whacky, my friend let me borrow his pc engine pad but won't trade me for it so i need one, but might buy an american tg-16 controller instead. any one with knowledge let me know.

American DUOPADs work, but not TG 16 pads. The connector is too large. There is a Turbotap that also acts as a converter (for those who have a duo and a bunch of Turbopads), but it is best to just grab a few Duopads if possible.
