What does everyone think of this game? I really want to play it because it looks like a great idea. I'm not too sure about having violence in it though...it is just about grafitti.

I don't really know what to think of it yet. It is the kind of game you need to try before you know what to think of it. The concept is a little iffy but it could work. Doubt I would ever buy it though. Wierd name too.

Anyone else think that Getting Up is really just a typo and that the real name was supposed to be Marc Ecko's Getting Off?

No it is "Getting Up". Its a neat educational game showing how Viagra affects the body. The mini-game with the Viagra Cruiser fighting anti-bodies and bacteria and trying to make it to the digestinal tract is neat also. Very reminiscent of Gradius.

The general gaming populace won't, but graffiti writers will.

Getting up is throwing your name UP around town, in multiple places. The more up you are, the more respect you get, and the more kiddies wanna bite your style. It can also stand for "Under Pressure", as in, the more you write, the more the cops are out to get you.

RIP Hip Hop.

I want it ,I just hope it's better than Crime Life gang wars which will be pretty easy considering that getting a steaming pile of dog crap thrown in your face is better than CL GW damn you konami for allowing such a dirty piece of garbage to be released.

There was a story on NPR yesterday afternoon about this game. Only caought the tail end of it. Basically, the gamer reviewing it (non-pro) said the game made him more interested in graf, but he'd probably never play the game again.

I have a feeling this is another in a long like of hyped to the hills, but ultimately dissapointing games. I haven't played it, so it's not fair of me to say that, but I wouldn't be suprized to see the reviews saying basically that.

Is this as dumb as it sounds?

I always admired people who seek respect from "kiddies." Must be true adults.

It's as dumb as your make it sound. Graffiti is for kids. I don't know anyone over 25 that writes for purposes other than money.

now i have not played the game but i am interested in it due to an intresting plot and the fact that mark ecko rarely produces subject par product when it comes to anything he's had his imput on. I have to say your statement is apalling in itself. its like saying "apalling to see Japanese culture in games. keep things american." this game is based off of the urban/hip hop culture, its not promoting violence but it does promote the pursuit of creative freedom, in this case graffiti.

this game may be a turd pile (haven't played it to know) but before you make a statement like that, please read up on the game more. its very narrow minded to disregard any culture as a source for a plot in a game. it keeps ideas fresh

game is alright, the grafitti mechanics are pretty simple, but what bothers me is sometimes they give you the weirdest angles when you're spraypainting and it's tough to tell whether or not you're going to drip (which deducts points).

also don't like the commericalism of the game (yes it's a marc ecko game...), but did I really need to see the ipod, YES the apple ipod imbedded as the "music player" of choice.

yeah you find ipods in the various levels to unlock songs.

still I'll probably try to beat this...it's a decent game.

Charlie Murphy as a fat white guy doesn't hurt.

Some one has played too much Ride or Die, or was it the fiddy game. I can see this person has tunnel vision since all he sees is the "ghetto cultures" through the eyes of MTV rappers (who are horrible). Mark Ecko is a great designer, and rarely doses something wrong. He is coming from a Hip-Hop fight for your freedom perspective, then an "I NEED BITCHES MONEY AND GOLD PLATED NUT SACK" perspective. And dude when games have ever been civilized....I mean me never sniping an alien in the back of the head civilized.

Can't wait to play this!

Oh wait, I can't because once again our supreme board of entertainment in all their infinite wisdom has decided to ban the game in case it influences kids to turn to vandalism. Yet we still get GTA:SA. NICE WORK GUYS!

Picked this up yesterday, and aside from feeling a little sloppy at times, this one is A LOT of fun. I love the spraypianting mechanics (though sometimes you need to do way too much of it, like the freeform challenges). They're easy to do and understand, and if you don't want to change your types of grafitti, don't. Intuition is brilliant to keep players moving, and the beat-em-up mechanics are enjoyable. Got a ways to go, but I'll be sticking with this one.

is the 1984-style mayor or whatever that has all that propaganda you see on the cover as generic as he appears? i also hope that spraying your logo on some subway car isn't going to start a revolution and topple some sort of corrupt regime.

i just igned out the game today from work and about a 30-60 min into it i am really liking it. its suprisingly well done. the fighting is simplistic, on the same lines as Manhunt but still good. the story is interesting. the soundtrack is great from the get go. the presentation is aweseom. all in all its worth at least a try if you are unsure. i know this time tomorrow night i'll have the LE version in my hands

I'm sure most of us know of the somewhat infanmous "gamers are pissy" comments Marc made (and I swore there was a thread on it). I was able to get an interview with Marc on his previous comments and he continues to defend the game:

I got it for review and I'm impressed with the fighting and tagging, but nothing seems to be done as well as it could be with a little more polish. It's good at the basics and little else. The endless commercialism in a game touting the 'underground' annoys me to no end.

On the boards I frequented it does generate a buzz with gangztaz and wanabes, but I also found gamers who were unhappy with their purchase and let everyone know about it.

So I recon it did okay.....

I wish the main protagonist could be muted some of things he says are so lame, incredibly lame. (even lamer than True Crime :/ ) I found the combat quite repetitive but mildly enjoyable in the beginning but later it became a chore, the shocktrooper guys give you such a hard time it isn't worth fighting them.

The best part for me was the POP moments some were quite well done, and looking down at the city and the skyline was nice but they were few and far between also the save points were in horrible positions, I also found the spray painting quite boring and routine although some of the art is quite nice to look at.

IMO you guys should wait for it on the cheap.... really cheap

just beat it. i have to say the gameplay is pretty mediocre but the story and presntation kept me in awe the whole time. i am actually glad i got the collectors edition. it really is the only CE thats worth that extra $10
