What do you think are some of the goriest arcade games?

I a looking to compile a list of bloody and gorey arcade games that I could use as a list or folder under favs in Mame32. So, I would like to get some help with this, what games have you played in the arcades or on Mame that had lots of blood, gore, violence with blood, anything like that. And when I mean bloody, I mean more than a fighting game where you land an awsome blow on your opponet and small tiny amounts of red drops appear for half a second, sticking with fighting games I mean you land the blow and blood gushes out like in mortal kombat, or the rivers of blood when you chop an arm off in bloodstorm.

So, Help me out guys.

House of the dead is pretty gory. Blowing off body parts and the like. I'll edit this if I think of anything else besides the obvious of mortal kombat, pit fighter, and all those.

Chiller is the obvious choice, if you're looking for MAME titles.

So, so far I got this:

House of the Dead, even though it dont work in Mame32, it is listed

Mortal Kombat 3
Mortal Kombat 4, dont work, but in list still
Mortal Kombat II
Primal Rage, not one of the absolute goreiest, but it has good amouts o blood
Tattoo Assassins
Time Killers
Ultamate Mortal Kombat 3, dont work but listed

I see some games, like Samuri Showdown, that appear to have good amounts o blood that I would add to the list, except for 2 facts, no one has recomended them yet, and above all, I can not find working roms for these. I never put things that I cant find working roms for in my favs lists. I am making an exception in this list with games that Mame32 just doesnt currently support, but I could still get 'working' roms for (like MK4, not working, but I can get a good rom that will try to boot, just unsucessfully), but as for games like SamShow that do work, as in are supported in Mame32, but I cant find working roms for, then I will not include them. So if you recomended something that is supported in Mame32, but you yourself cant find a working rom for it, I will not be putting it in my list.

I find the so called gore in SS to be tame.

Still,Samurai Shodown 5 Special is supose to have the most in the serise.I've seen pictures of it's fatality and it's rather nasty :evil:

I would consider this game a forgotten classic of newer gun games ,its a Midway/Atari 3DFX hard drive based game so Im not sure if its been dumped or works correctly if it has ?

Lots of blood squirting out of most everything you shot as I remeber it :)

Tecmo Knight.. probably not as bloody as later games. But you claw heads off monsters :)

I would have to say that back when they still made arcade games worth playing that Total Carnage was one of my favs. Remembey when you stepped on a mine and got blown into the air with your guts ripped out. And that was before MK.

It's been a while since I've played it but I recall that NARC was quite a gory game. I was quite suprised by that the first time I played it.

As it's name implies BloodStorm is quite graphic. Hard to find this one. Those are two titles I can think of that weren't mentioned already. :)

Your problem with samsho not working is probably because you do not have the neogeo.zip BIOS rom by the way.

You might try splatterhouse, or the metal slugs. MS games are mild, but if there's a zombie stage...enjoy the blood stream attack. There's cutting up/shooting soldiers and stuff too but it's not THAT graphic.

Most Neo games are far from Gorry.

For instance the origional SS has a "Violence" setting in the game setup that ranges from 1 to 8 and about the only difference I can see inbetween 1 & 8 is at some point they remove the chopping someone in half animation and Blood Spray.

Also depending on the Neo Bios you can change the Blood color from Red to White { may be AES only ,cant remember }

Any of which are hardly graphic.

I own SS and SS3 and its pretty much the same for both.


I think Neo Rage works alot better than MAME for Neo games.

Guwange is a cool over head shooter thats pretty gorey. And the graphics are pretty damn good as well.
