With the DP brick & mortar store occupying a lot of Joe's time, I've been given the permission to set up and run this year's Otto Awards.

The time-honored tradition at Digital Press continues in 2005 as we invite everyone to cast their nominations in various video gaming categories. Though there's still some time left in the year, we'll start the nominatin' here and do the actual voting starting January 6th.

Cut and paste this list of categories and give us your nominations. Everyone should be able to participate here - just choose categories that you know well.

Hopefully apparent - your nominations should be cast for games that were actually RELEASED in 2005, not existing titles you played for the first time this year.

**Even though it may not be seen as an RPG per se, I nominate GTA: San Andreas as Best RPG. It has all the classic RPG elements: stat advancement, action affects NPC reaction, equipment selection (including changing the appearance of your character), side quests and exploration. It's practically an urban Elder Scrolls game.

It doesn't say US games only anywhere, and as far as I'm concerned, as long as it's a game that was released in 2005, it should count.

Sure, there's no problem nominating titles that weren't released in the US, as we have plenty of import-savvy and users that aren't in the US to begin with. Just as long as they were released this year!

I do remember that Richard Burns Rally was nominated in the Driving game category last year, which never saw a stateside release.

Well, I didn't buy many games in 2005 but for Game of the year I choose Resident Evil 4. Not a surprise. I never tried Shadow of the Collosses, is it that good?! I heard It's only 16 boss fights. In my opinion, that's not a GOTY candidate

You either love or you hate SotC, much the same way ICO was. You really have to play the game to appreciate it. Between this and RE4, it was hard to pick my GOTY, though the soundtrack in SotC was the absolute best I've ever heard in any game. That really gave it the edge over RE4 for me.
