I'm just trying to figure how limited this thing is? We got a bunch of them in my work, but I was wondering if this thing is going to be limited or just another platinum gamecube type of thing? Also, I was wondering if anyone had some pics of everything inside (especially the case that it supposdly comes with)?

I imagine it will have the same run as the NES SP. As for the contents, it's teh same as the other micros. A black sleve to carry it around in, and there's no other faceplate, or the tool that removes them. I'd pick one up, if you have the chance.

At an EB by me the manager said the Nintendo rep said due ti it NOT selling very well (micro in whole) they may pull production of the micros...

and that what there are made already in the number of micros (i have no idea ho wmany were made, nor have found any source to quote from)... That they indeed are limited in run and supply.

The shops around me in seattle are or have sold out already... lots and lots of Gamers up here... all of that freakin coffee and perpetual continual drive me CRAZY rain....

Best buy has them... but for 99.... and at the Gamecrazy i got mine at i used the $10 coupon to get Guardian Super Heroes...

i have one for xmas, as well a teal DS bundle and a Spongebob SP...

a "handy" xmas for me!

Nah, Nintendo never really expected the Micro to replace the SP, which is why we saw the updated screen on the SP. The Micro was made for the tech savy consumer, Reggie has stated that once interest drops on the system, they pull it off shelves. I don't think they were expecting a huge boom in sales (although it did make a few waves early on in Japan and in the US) but is beginning to slow it's steam rather heavily.

I'd say we'll see production end by March of 2006, and completely out of stores by summer of 2006. So yeah, I suggest people get these while they can.

I purchased the 20th anniversay edition tonight. A gamestop by me had two left. I couldn't tell you what it looks like inside the box, as I am keeping it sealed for awhile....or maybe years :)

Also, on a side note...I was under the assumption that the 20th edition USA version would look like a NES controller, or be somewhat NES like.

The picture on the box looks exactly like the Famicom Japanese 20th anniversary Micro.

Yes, to my suprise as well, it is the Famicom micro. I don't know why they did that, but I'm not complaining. It now completes the entire Classic NES series.

I am assuming that they did this becuase they had leftover Famicom Micro casings, and it was just more cost efficient to create the same model for the US consumers, as opposed to re-creating another style of casing. That is just an assumption however...

I wouldn;t imagine that this will sell very well (other than to collectors like myself) as you are getting even LESS (no extra faceplates, no tool) than you get with a standard Micro package for the same price.

WHat does that all add up to? A very collectable videogame handheld. I am very glad I grabbed this one, and actually heard about the US release because of this thread :) I just can't keep up on everything gaming nowadays, so thanks for the heads up!

What sucks is that the people who imported the Japanese one no longer have something unique to the US. I can't take mine with me and show people like I could before. Stupid Nintendo. Where's the NES version?

Also, I was actually thinking of getting the US one too... but then I saw the inside of the box. The total and utter LACK of Mario graphics or cool box design reminded me just how much NOA hates to spend money on cool packaging. The original micro has a nicer box design. This one was just disappointing. No "Thank you for choosing Famicom Micro" inside. No lift off top. Bah humbug, Nintendo. Nice try, but try again. Mine's better.

I agree totally. I felt kinda ripped off. I mean we bascially paid $50 for that box. But at least I can rest easily knowing I have the true Japanese release the way it was intended.

But I really really want this new one too! Not enough damn money though....

I can completely understand the anger from folks who imported the unit. I was actually prepared to order the import until I heard of a USA 20th release, so I held out and saved my money. I am personally glad I didn't spend $150 for it, and the $99 I did. While I do agree the better boxart will be something I'll miss out on, I really wouldn't order an import and pay $50 more for that alone at this point.

But again, isn't that $50 extra you spent from simply importing? I mean, Nintendo was not selling the Japanese version for $150, were they? I imported the Dreamcast a few months before the US release, and paid near $400 for it! If you felt ripped off, it is because of the fees that you were charged that came along with importing, and not because Nintendo themselves ripped you off.

Does anyone have pictures of the U.S. box art?

Actually, you're getting less for MORE. The regular micros are going for an MSRP of $89.99, but the Famicom is $99.99! So unless you're a collector, there is no reason to get this.

Actually, some places are selling the Famicom Mirco fo $89...like GameCrazy for example

It looks sweet, but after hearing it does not come with the faceplate extras and the tool to remove it is a bit of a let down.

As for the limited issue, even the offical GB Mirco site from Nintendo mentions that the GB Mirco is for a limited time...

I got the micro on my wishlist, I dont care if I get black, silver, or anything, as long as I get one. If this is for a limited time only I predict they will be sought after in the future, and I sure as heck would love one to play FF4 on instead of the bulky DS.

Also, how is the sound quality on the system? It looks like its mono.

I'm getting one for X-mas. My boyfriend and I revolve all gifts around video games. I think instead of an engagement ring he's gonna whip out an engagement GameBoy.

My kitten is attacking my hair.

Kind of. I bought mine at Play Asia for $129.90. Shipping was $24.50. So for me it was actually $154.40. I believe Liksang's prices were comparable.
Really though, I'm not angry. I'm just so surprised. I'm impressed with the job Nintendo did with the release. It's not the usual Nintendo thing.

Nintendo has them all listed as "Limited Edition". From what I hear, they early models are all limited editions. I think they may be realeasing a new wave. I think that's what someone said. However, the lackluster sales of the Gameboy micro, may put a little damper on the Nintendo "Game Boy Advance Tour De Force".

You think we're mad because once again we imported something that got released over here shortly after. I'm not. I am actually mad that they decided to go to the extra effort to "water down" what makes the Japanese release worth the extra $30 I paid. (Where'd the extra $50 number come from? It's only $130.) The Mario box art! It's a Mario special edition, but there's hardly any Mario. Frank Ozly, I was quite disappointed. Not that it wasn't NES based, but that Mario and Bowser had been completely left out. The. Packaging. Sucks. :(

I knew full well Nintendo would bring it over. But I also knew they'd screw something up. They gave us the shaft with the box.

Quick question.

Does the U.S. model have the same "Happy! Mario" design on the back?

In other words, other than the lackluster packaging, is the U.S. model the same as the JPN model?

Any information would be much appreciated, as I'd like to snag one of these for an upcoming trip. Thanks!

Nope, the US one doesn't. Just "Game Boy Micro" and the legal information. Not nearly as cool :(

I might have to pay to import one, then.

Thanks for your help!

Yep. That's what I did. Of course I did it before the US one was announced. But then I thought the US one would actually be worth buying as well. Shame it isn't. Not for someone who already has the superior version.

Damn you, Nintendo. You totally screwed this one up! They would have been better off just selling the Japanese versions straight.

Oh well. I'm not mad. This is the first time Nintendo's released something in the US after I import the Japanese version that I'm not jealous I overpaid. Because I got the better one this time!
