So, I got my parents a new computer for Christmas. It's a semperon processor (which is AMD's lower level 64 bit proc) with integrated graphics. I'll prolly buy a budget video card for it.
My father asks me to get him some games. Remember, he hasn't played a game since we played together on our Atari 2600.
He mentioned Tank and Flying games. I'd prefer not to buy some expensive flight stick or something which I know won't be used.
Any ideas here?

Simple arcade games. Stuff that requires minimal skills. Unless you are available to show him how to play the game everytime you walk in the door! I don't have the patience to show someone over and over how to play a game or load up an ipod (my sister)
Burning Monkey Solitaire 2005 is cool just to have. The package has about 20 (roughly) different card games. Also they made Intellivision lives! and Activision Anthology for PC. Get Halo so he could brag to his friends he plays it at home.
ummm how about World of Warcraft, then you will NEVER get him off the computer!
Scenerio #1 "Dad can I borrow the car and your credit card to just paid off, I'm gonna drive out to Vegas and marry my 2nd cousin! We love each other! I don't care what the family says! Dad? Daaad?"
Dad: "What??, hold on a second I'm almost done!"
2 hours later....
Dad: "Man, that was COOL!!!, what did you say son? Son? I wonder where he went.... oh well, round 5 coming up, this is a great game!!!"
Just think what you can get a way with if you buy that game! LOL

Look into the Command and Conqur games
Red Alert is over a decade old now but it is good
Red Alert 2 was great
Generals was too
Tiberian Sun and its expansion deviate alot from realism which seems to be what he is looking for.
Oh yea the expansion pack Yuris Revenge for Red Alert 2 is the same way. You end up with all kinds of crazy things.
Generals is relatively recent, pretty easy to pick up and has a decent play time.
Plus it should be around 20-30$ now.

I didn't know your age sorry man!
WofW does take a HUGE amount of time. Old Starcarft stuff is cool. Heck Doom or Ultimate Doom is great, takes up little space.
Do you have a Half Price Books store near by your house? They have a plethra of title cheap.
Age of the Empires is only $10 and he'll love it.
