Should I buy a PStwo?

I have recieved a $100 Best Buy gift card and some money for x-mas. I have had my eye on the slim ps2 for a while. My Playstation is old and doesn't work great and same with my PS2. What do you guys think of the system?

Mine works great. I have had mine since launch, and I have had no problems. Even if your PS2 is broken, I think you can still trade it in to EB for like $20 in store credit.

It wouldn't be too bad. But you might as well wait for the launch of the PS3 and put the $100 towards that. You've waited this long, whats the harm in waiting a few more months? Either that, or wait until the PS3 comes out and then buy a PS2 because it would likely decrease in price dramatically, giving you more cash to spare from the gift certificate.

Yeah i have had a slim ps2 since they first came out back in October/November of 2004, and that was a great purchase, works great and gets played almost every day!

Aye, network adaptor built-in. I love my PSTwo - so much better than the older models, it's never given me a lick of trouble.

I'm not too sure it's only going to be a few more months. I'd be shocked to see the PS3 before June. I'm thinking holidays 06 at the soonest. Also, who knows how launch will go knowing Best Buy's tomfoolery. I'd say spend the money now on something you want.

Some complain about it overheating but those same people probably play it on carpet...

I am still debating this. The PS3 is coming soon and that seems like a decent idea but I just don't think that I'll have the money for that and a 360 anytime soon. So i'm a bit torn on what to do. I would like to play my PS1 and PS2 games without a hitch, so i'm leaning towards the PStwo now but I have no idea about what I want to do @_@

Swap Magic does work with a slim PS2 (using it right now). I don't have an official PS2 import, but I understand that it would work for those. Does not work on PS1 imports. I use mine for prereview copies (burned usually) and haven't had a problem after I modded it with a few pieces of duct tape.

Although mine is a Japanese import ceramic white PStwo, I have to tip my hat to Sony for this machine. it may not support the failed HDD, but they seem more dependable than the old model.

Ive had my PStwo for over 9 months now and it is far better than the older "fatty" model PS2's.

Much more reliable and has played everygame that I own and have rented/borrowed perfectly with no problems.

90% of the time mine doesnt get very hot and has never overheated or anything like that even after long hours of playing games like Killzone with lots of loading.

I would say that anytime is a good time to pick up a PStwo for any gamer that isnt biased or blinded by fanboyism the PS2 covers just about every genre imaginable. From incredible traditional 2-D shooters and fighters- ex:Gradius V and Capcom vs. SNK 2 to the best in 3-D: RPGs-Dragon Warrior 8,Final Fantasies with part 12 coming soon- fighters-Tekken series,Virtua fighter 4,Soul Calibur- and many other Genres with the Resident Evil series,Silent Hill series to GTA,Metal Gear -substance in a few months and Splinter Cell.

Some of the best racers on any system GT 3@4,burnout etc.

Then one has to take into consideration all the great AAA PSONE games that are available on the PS2 with both PSone and PS2 libraries combined on ONE system makes it the best value and investment for any real gamer over any other console IMO (yes even the shiny new 360).

The only genre (other than RTS games wich is what PCs are for) slightly lacking on the PS2 is FPS but there are many good FPS on the PS2 also while they may not be a "Halo killer" on the system it still has enough good to very good FPS to keep any fan of that genre happy and there is the possibility (and reports) of a Killzone 2 PS2 version being made.
