I tried out EyeToy: Kinetic last night with my gf and I have to say it's pretty cool. It's basically a workout "game" for PS2 using the EyeToy.

It feels like a exercise program you would try out at EPCOT Center or would see in a Sci-fi movie...

It doesn't quite looks like this since you probably don't have an all white Sci-fi room in your house or apartment, but you get the idea.

I'm sure it isn't as good as having a real personal trainer at a gym, but sure beats videos and the price of joining a gym for that matter. It has a 12 week program which I hope to stick with (on easy).

Anyone else try it, or even heard of it?

Cheers,
Ben

I saw this at E3 and we've had a copy sitting in our store since it came out, whenever that was.

I didn't know it actually had workout regimens though, that's really cool. I thought it was just some random flail your arms like a retard game to make you think you're working out, but if it's actually got stretching exercises and gradual slopes then that's probably a great idea to get started on before hitting a gym.

Eyetoy's are garbage as far as I'm concerned. I HAVE set up optimal conditions, including spotlighting, and a black backdrop. Ya know what? It STILL looks like crap. My kids got a 100K pixel digital camera for xmas that looks MUCH better than the eyetoy does.

Now I'm not expectiing High def live feed here. But when I see it reviewed on TV, and commercials, etc... They're OBVIOUSLY using fake/doctored images, or Sony is sending them MUCH MUCH better camera's than it's selling to the general public.

I'm still going to say that VG and moving around don't mix. Unless in the arcades.

I dont care what anyone says about the eye toy, it is a cool idea and companies are actually supporting it. Its not like the other peripherals that were released.

Actually, that game is a sort of random exercise video generator, no DDR pads or cameras involved. You enter in a bunch of data at the start (heart rate while sitting, then then again after doing jumping jacks, how many push ups you can do, etc) and then it suggests execerise regimens for you to do. You can even tell it that you have equimpment, like weights or a yoga ball and it'll generate exercises for you using those.

Interesting idea, but the music is kinda crappy. Makes it hard to stick with.

Stepping on buttons is not a full cardiovascular workout.

Also, there's a Yourself! sequel coming out sometime soon-ish for PS2, Xbox (and 360), and PC. It has customizable music, which should make it a lot better.

I assure you, stepping on buttons is a full cardio workout. I can keep my heartbeat in the right area for longer doing ddr than I can walking, or riding a bike. I also hold 10 lb weights in each hand while I do it, but still :)

No can do buddy, no can do. Not even for the rarest of games. :)

I myself want more of her DVD's but that would require i know someone in Japan...which i don't.

Back to the topic:

So aside from possibly DDR, what game would be considered the "best" to work out with?

How about the good ole' DS throw when you get hit by a blue shell right before the finish line when you play online? That does wonders for my arms.

But seriously, try getting really into a light gun game, like maybe try Vampire Night in the dark and move around and stuff, that would probably get your heart pumping, but I would still say DDR is the best exercise.

So....

Physical Fitness: 0
Fat Asses: 1

:(

Just kidding!

I've also been playing DDR and it definitely feels more like a game. So you'll play it more burn more calories etc...

The eyetoy "game" - while not as fun - is more comprehesive, and I'm still digging it. If you want to get some exercise, but do not want to sign up for a gym or have an annoying personal trainer, I recommend it so far...
