How many of you have actually played the original Street fighter? I am asking this because whenever there is a discussion about SF a n00b always says "I love playing the original SF, I used Guile all the time"
I am talking about the very first one that started it all.
For those that have played the original, would you like capcom to remake the original with updated sprites and movesets? I know I wouldn't mind playing Geki just teleporting and throwing ninja stars. LOL
You forgot to ask about keyboard.

I'm talking about arcade only.
And the keyboard was with the 6 button conversion.

I never played the first SF in the arcade. The first time I ever seen the game was in the movie "Juice".
So SF2 was my first SF experience.
I played an old MSDOS version of it years ago, it didn't last for very log tho.

Yeah, I beleive so. There's a Street Fighter origional cab on my campus. Its out of the way for me to get to on a regular basis, but I have stuck a few quarters in there.

I played that on an Ultracade recently. I forgot how funny the voices were. It's friggin' unplayable, though. Compare it to SF2--it's obvious why the sequel was a hit and the original wasn't.

I loved playing it with the punch pads because the strength of the hit depended on you not the button you pressed.
If I could find an old cab with the punch pads I would try to install them on MvC2 and see how much harder it would be to pull off the combos.
Hmmmmm. :eek 2: :hmm:

Yep, the local bowling alley had an original SF1 with the pressure pads for a short while so I did get to play that before it disappeared.

I remember that scene! That was great.
My first time ever playing it was at Big, Small, & Odd lots (now known as BIG LOTS). My Mom used to take FOREVER in that store and they had NOTHING for a young kid to do besides their 3 arcade machines.
So I played the original Street Fighter ALOT, which was right next to an Altered Beast and a PLAY CHOICE 10!

the SF1 machine at my local Fun Factory had that sega hologram game next to it, anybody remember the name of it?

Thats right, I remember now.
The three games I liked most were lined up, Street Fighter - Time Traveler - Black Tiger

Would playing it on Mame count as playing it with the 6-button conversion? I play it quite a bit in Mame, think I remember playing it one in an arcade. Not a huge fan myself, I like it a lot, but I sure dont love it. I however LOVE SF2, play that a load in Mame, on Sega Genesis (Champ Edition), and a few times at one of my local bowling places (world warrior version). I always use Chun Li, love to use her thunder kicks and that jump spin thing. Wish I could do the spin jump on Genesis, but I cant, and if you can, I sure cant figure out how, not the same as in the arcade where you rotate the joystick jump and kick at the same time.

First time I played it, was with this recent Capcom Arcade PC game. That contains SF1 and SF2 CE
Which you can usually find for $10 at Best Buy

SF2 WAS my first, but I also did play Street Fighter a while back, emulation only. Just re-downloaded the files and tried out the prototype/finished versions.
I managed to beat the highscore in the prototype after taking two losses to Buggy Joe, who demoralized me with his "invisible/scattered tiles" attack!
That version's easier than the released US one, which was holy hell tough.
Ryu's fireball (which I can't pull off very often on a keyboard) is really strong, though. :)
Awful game. The soundtrack is great, though - have the original OST release for it ('88 or so).

Yeah, a local arcade had it back when it was new. Games Galaxy was the name, right across the street from my highschool.
I remember being amazed by all the buttons.
Later, I would play the heck out of it on my TG-16, aka Fighting Street.
And yes, I had always thought it'd be cool to see Capcom do a remake Street Fighter with updated graphics and such.
I'm sure they'd re-use the sprites for Birdie, Eagle, Adon, and Sagat too. :wink 2:

Ya the original SF had some weird power setup where you could kill someone with a kick and 2 fireballs or just 1 Sheen Long that hits 3 times. Thats how I beat Sagat the very first time, I jumped to him and the uppercut came out and hit him 3 times, I was shocked.
My favorite part of the game was the bonus stage with the wood you had to break.

I got a bonus stage in the prototype...I just hit the main punch button once, the crowd cheered...and I was rather confused.
Yeah, I managed to do the uppercut once in the prototype, as well.
What's the button combo for the uppercut and the fireball?

My first experience with SF1 was on the C64 before SF2 was released. I remember it being fairly decent for a C64 game, although nowhere near as good as the sequel (I can't remember whether it was the UK or the US version of the game I played at the time)
The special moves were essentially impossible to do properly due to the poor controls. I remember doing hurricane kicks and fireballs (although usually by accident), but it was only much later on that I learned that the dragon punch was actually in there somewhere too.

I use to play it at my local 7-11 all the time when it first came out. I have not seen it lately though.

I've lived in Nashville forever, and when the Opryland amusement park was still open, they had a Street Fighter 1 (it was in an old Super Cobra cabinet).
I never really was a big fan of the original. But then came SF2... :D

Of course I have. Although it was mostly popular with the little kids (then) than with me. At the time I mostly played Pac-Mania LOL The game music for Street Fighter 1 is especially stuck in my mind as the game was often blasted and was constantly heard in the background.
The arcade I usually saw it played had both the big soft buttons and the 6 button versions.

What's the button combo for the uppercut and the fireball?
I remember the moves being the same but not as forgiving as they are now. I think it was due to the bad controls. I thought it was because of the punch pads but when you play the 6 button version the delay is exactly the same.

I've always been annoyed that Capcom has released all of their Street Fighter Collections and the Capcom Arcade Legends Collection without this game. Both have multiple versions of Street Fighter 2 in them, but it almost seems like they want to pretend this one never existed.

I know what you mean. Capcom could at least release something called Street Fighter: Generations or something that has all the characters from SF1, SF2, SFA, SFA2, SFA0, SF3.
That would be cool.

played sf1 many times, used to have 4 boardsets, all went faulty because of all the hacks on the pressure sensor pots on the boards and you could not do anything apart from jump about :)

I should just say.. it's funny because when SF1 was out, no one really "knew" the exact movements for a fireball for example. So the general way was just via word of mouth or observation and in general this mean, just jamming that joystick back and forth in a roundabout way and soon a fireball would come out! LOL
It wasn't until SF2 that the 'exact' movement became really known which was down, down-forward, forward, punch. But then again it was so flaky on SF1 that I think the jamming the joystick technique still works better. :hmm:

I played it once or twice in the arcade, and didn't think much of it.
Even when it was released, there were better fighters to play, like the venerable Yie-Ar Kung Fu.

It absolutely blows my mind that I've never heard of the pressure pads. WTF, is all I an say. How could something like that escape me after all this time? I never knew there was anything but the 6 buttons. (shrugs)

Ummm...no you didn't. You played Fighting Street. BWA HA HA HA.
And I'm in agreement with many of you...why is this never on any compilations? Sure, it sucks in comparison to the sequels, but it is a piece of Capcom history, yet they try to ignore it, sweep it under the rug, and pretend it never existed as though it were some sort of embarrassment.

I have played the 6-button arcade version a couple of times, the first (long ago) being out of curiosity, and then after I played SFII.
I recently got it on the Capcom Arcade Hits Vol.1 disc, I found it in a dump bin at Best Buy for $1.99 on Black Friday. It's actually not a bad game, but pales in comparison to SFII, of course.

I've played the Turbo CD version, and while it isn't horrible it isn't anything to write home about either. I'm not suprised Capcom didn't include it in the SF compilation. It's just not good enough to be worth the effort of emulating the extra hardware. Plus hardly anybody's ever played it, so nobody really misses it.

I thought it was just a CPS1 game, like Final Fight or SF2.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the PC compilation, which runs through emulation.
