I'v not had much time on the xbox in the last year or so..

So can anyone hit me up with a list of the best xbox shooters? Maybe alittle description etc. Stuff like halo, halo2, doom etc are a given but what about some of the sleepers?

Any help would be great, since i'm getting back into the xbox again!

Is the XBOX already considered "classic gaming"?

Wrong forum, but yeah -

Half-Life 2
Kind of a given, but if you don't have a PC to run the game, then this is a great alternative, one of the best shooters you'll ever play.

Far Cry Instincts
Same as above, the PC version is superior, but the Xbox version is still great and worth the money (just dropped to $30 too). Graphics are some of the best on the system too.

Timespliters Future Perfect
A much more arcade type shooter, and is very similar to GoldenEye and Perfect Dark considering the team is made up of mostly ex-Rare employees. The single player is garbage but the multiplayer is golden.

Battlefield 2
Another PC to Xbox conversion that's awesome, great visuals, great online modes, very fun.

It is not a PC-to-console conversion. Its a totaly different game. But yeah just so im adding to the thread.

Battlefield: Modern Combat is great. As is The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Rainbow Six 3, Ghost Recon, and Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict (Melee goodness)

If you like first person shooters that are heavily story-driven, you might want to consider Red Faction 2. It's not half as good as Red Faction 1, but still a great first person shooter if you're patient (I didn't begin to appreciate the game until I beat it :embarrassed: ).

Time Splitters 3: Future Perfect is great as well, although unlike Red Faction, you're barely able to interact with your surroundings.

As far as Shooters in general go, check out Sega's The House of the Dead 3 on Xbox. It's great!

Red Faction 2

I consider Red Faction 2 to be the single worst FPS I've ever played in my life. :( (long rant deleted!)

Personally, I loved Tron 2.0 and consider it one of the best first person shooters I've ever played. There's a whole poo-load of great moments in the game, but that reformating level was pure gold.

I picked up Project Snowblind but haven't played it yet. Most people seem to agree that it's better than Deus Ex 2, though people also complain about it being too short or some such. Fine by me, I like short games and it was only $10 at TRU :) Shame they didn't keep the original Deus Ex license intact with this sucker.

Oddworld:Stranger's Wrath is a very unconventional FPS; you can play a large portion of it from the third person view if you so desire. I stick to the FPS view anyway just because it feels more comfortable to me. Really interesting gameworld to explore, going from town to town to collect bounties and uncover the storyline of the game. One of the most overlooked games of last year, sadly. Don't let the EA logo on the case scare you away!

Breakdown is another unconventional FPS. You'll spend a lot of time using your fists and feet instead of the guns, and there's a point very late in the game that most people (including myself) tend to give up on, but until that point it's still a great change of pace. Almost like, "what if the Japanese redid Half Life".

I haven't played the Xbox ports of Max Payne 1 and 2, but the PC versions were totally tits. Some of the finest action you'll ever experience. Third person shooters, but god damn GOOD ones. I know the PS2 ports sucked, but apparently the Xbox ones were alright.

edit - oh, and I hate hate HATE the Timesplitters series, so I guess that may or may not matter to you with regard to my recommendations)

I forgot to add Silent Scope with the super duper green light-rifle.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I used to feel the same way. In my experience, Red Faction 2 takes a lot of patience to appreciate: the first 5 hours that I spent with the game were spent in a state of regret. Once I beat the game, I came to appreciate many aspects of its design: the way grenades work (you can't toss grenades if you're wielding 2 guns at the same time), the way the health system works (your energy recharges if you can avoid damage for a given duration of time, like in Halo) are two of the most outstanding factors of which I never became aware until I beat the game.

Nah. Timesplitters 2 would be a great game if it wasn't for its cursed control system. Your sense of aim and analog sensitivity is totally inconsistent when you switch from one weapon to another one.

Timesplitters 3 improves on this greatly, which is why I ditched Timesplitters 2 upon trying its sequel for the first time.

two of the most outstanding factors of which I never became aware until I beat the game.

A few decent ideas here and there don't salvage an overly flawed game. The levels themselves were uninteresting and trite, the characters were laughably generic, the storyline was roughly as compelling as the Doom comic book, and the engine somehow ran slower than the first game while not looking any nicer.

Hell, even Daikatana managed to contain some pretty well done levels and gameplay.

It's pretty difficult for me to accept that this is coming from the same Volition that brought us the then-innovative Descent and the brilliant Descent Freespace series. Red Faction itself wasn't all that original, but it was decently executed. (lol @ "OMG HALF LIFE KILLR" hype).

I guess I was just offended by the sheer level of ineptitude in the overall design of the game. It's not even a result of them being rushed, because there's just so much of the game that just doesn't work out that the only thing that could have saved it was firing the project lead and starting over from scratch :(

On a tangent and relating to cool ways to regenerate health, I always liked the way Shogo dealt with health, though the game itself hasn't aged very well at all.

Wait, Timesplitters 3 actually has a control scheme that doesn't suck? I may have to look into it more. I was so turned off and pissed off by the first two games that I never bothered to spend my hard earned cash on the third one, but maybe I'll give it a look-see if I can find it in the bargain bin. (of course, there was a lot more that I hated than just the control scheme...but...eh.... $10 is a lucky price point where I'll give any game a shot)

I'd say that those are valid criticisms, save for the one about the story being as compelling as the Doom Comic Book (I haven't read it, so I can't comment).

I thought RF2's story took a neat and very engaging turn halfway through the game. The first half wasn't what I'd call bad, either.

Hell, even Daikatana managed to contain some pretty well done levels and gameplay.

Seriously?

It's pretty difficult for me to accept that this is coming from the same Volition that brought us the then-innovative Descent and the brilliant Descent Freespace series.

I agree that of all the Volition titles I've played, RF2 was the worst. However, I still feel that it's better than the average FPS.

Red Faction itself wasn't all that original, but it was decently executed. (lol @ "OMG HALF LIFE KILLR" hype).

You're talking about the first one, right?

Red Faction 1 wasn't original in the sense that its story seemingly draws inspiration from such sources as Total Recall, but that's not to say that its not engaging nor effective.

To say that RF1's story is "decently" executed is an understatement, in my opinion.

The only reason why I put up with Timesplitters 1 & 2 was because there were fun multiplayer experiences to be had, even though everyone engaged in the action was struggling with the awful controls. Timesplitters 3 finally resolves that issue and makes the solo adventure tolerable enough to play.

Sorry I was saying this from the PS2's version experience and it was great on the PS2.

Operation Flashpoint is awesome if you have patience and a little bit of reality based tactical know how.

http://www.bistudio.com/pics/games/xscreennew7_hi.jpg

Huge gameplay area, No cheap pathway driven gameplay forcing you down one street crap. I mean look off into the distance there might be an enemy base over that hill. You can also grab helicopters and Tanks and APCs etc.

Mercenaries Playground of Destruction is also another open ended shooter on Xbox. Not very realistic but godamn is calling airstrike on people fun. B-52 strike is sweet and you get to see it all go down in real time.

Panzer Dragoon Orta. It's not an FPS but it's a hell of a shooter. Best game of the past gen!

Well besides the ones mentioned. Both Brothers in Arms are great. Area 51 and Pariah are ok if you enjoyed Halo.
