A friend of mine got NFS:MW for Christmas. His though is the "Black Edition" with different box art and an extra dvd included. He has it for X-box(1 not 360) so was there Black Editions produced for GC, PS2, and 360? Also does this thing have any potential to be rare?

The Black edition was produced for both the PS2, Xbox, and PC, but not for the Gamecube or 360. It actually contained a bunch of extra playable content, instead of the usual crap that publishers have been sticking in collector's editions that don't sell (True Crime: New York City anyone?). That made it particularly noteworthy, and given the fact that the game doesn't completely blow, it sold well.

It was available on and off for 3-4 weeks after the launch date of the game in mid-November, but once the holiday season began it disappeared off of shelves in a hurry.

Its rarity is questionable - it sold well but there were always less copies behind the counter than its regular edition counterpart, and it was discontinued rather quickly, making it a true collector's item of sorts. However, my guess is that its demand will be arguable in coming months and years, given the pure volume of sales that the regular edition has achieved so far (pretty decent through the holidays).

I got the PS2 version for Christmas. :)

I made a thread about the Black Edition here when it was announced:

I still saw new copies of all three versions at EB, GameStop, and Wal-Mart a few days before Christmas. I predict that it'll wind up being as common as the Madden 2005 SE, but it'll still be a pretty damn cool thing to own.

i bought it sadly, how ever its the LAST game from EA i will EVER BUY!

its like the PS2 cant keep up with my speed and it'll render spike strips only a few feet infront of me, and a few time i hit cars in the rear where "they are supposed to be lighter" and it was like hitting a friggin wall and stopped instantly....extremely frusterating especially when your trying to get an extra 1,000,000 to race the next black list guy

Well that's what happens when a game isn't designed for the lowest common denominator. Don't hate EA for targeting more advanced hardware, hate on them for actually bothering to release a PS2 version when the PS2 isn't capable of handling the game.

Though, to be fair, I'm sure they could have retained the gameplay if they had toned down the graphics a bit further...but come on. really.
