I am currently debating.
I have about 200+ boxed and complete NES games that I am currently debating to sell to fund my AES collection. I want to get a Phantom 1 and a bunch of MVS games.
Should I do it or should I keep the NES games?

I sold the following things to get my Neo and Turbo Duo collection off the ground:
3DO and games
Genesis 2/Sega CD 2 (I still have a Genesis and Sega CD)
Genesis 3
One of my Master Systems
My mint in box Jaguar
My complete Dreamcast collection
My Laseractive and LD games
My TG-16 (got the Duo R so who cares)
Do I regret it? Nope. Like my wife said to me, “Why collect a bunch of the cheapo stuff when you can buy a few really rare things?”
She was right. I bought a Neo AES (which I just sold) and bit the bullet and got a consolized MVS. Metal Slug 1,X,3, Samurai Showdown 1,2,3,4, Windjammers, Top Hunter, Blazing Star, Bust a Move, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special. These are some of the games I got with the sale money. If you ask me, those systems listed above were never as good as what I have now.

Indeed, keeps the collection smaller, too.
For my part, I've gone back and forth between buying really expensive, rare things (when I had the money), or random cheap things that interested me (which, almost always, I should not have bought).

Your wife is a genius. That makes alot of sense. And also at least I will be playing the games that I really want. As for my NES stuff I can always download them with the Nintendo Revolution, supposedly.

You are a strange person. I can't imagine giving up one system for another, even if I hated the system. It's not what collectors do.

If I actually hated a system, I would get rid of it, most likely. So far, I don't hate any systems, but I do forget about them occasionally (i.e. Color Computer III).

I never collected NES games. I just bought them because I came across them for a good price for the bunch so I couldn't say no. The only things I collect are Sega CD, SNES, PSX, NGCD, AES and NGPC.
That's why I am getting rid of them. It makes no sense for me to keep a collection that doesn't make me happy to have. So I am going to give an NES collector the chance to have them instead.

i want them....$50? not including shipping of course
but in reality now i would have to agree, why did you feel the need to buy them at any price if you didnt want them?
oh and got any systems for sale?

Though I don't think that people are nuts for selling off their games in order to fund their other collecitions (as a lot of my games have come from a guy who has done that), I do not do it myself.
I am really only concentrated on the Nintendo consoles, but that doesn't make me want to sell my Genesis games. The only thing I do is I might trade games for consoles that I'm not collecting for to get some NES games or something.

Sell 'em if you don't care for them. There is always someone looking to buy NES games, especially complete. :D

so the poll is 'should i sell games i dont want and didnt really want when i bought them so ill have the money to get something id like to play' or 'should i keep these games i dont want and only bought because they were cheap'?
hmmm... :hmm:

I think the difference is that for some of us, thinking is EASY.

I went from having pretty much $0 money in PayPal to suddenly having a good deal of money thanks to the HL2 sale...it should be obvious why folks pick up items for tradebait.
Throw a copy of Psychic Killer Taromaru in front of me for $10, of course I'll buy it (but I would've anyway...)

I suppose one could argue that you are also a strange person...keeping games for a system you don't like and will never play.
Perhaps its a difference in view between collector and gamer. :)
Anyway....sell 'em! If they bring you no satisfaction then drop them for something that will.
If you don't like it and it has some value sell it.
I did that with my 3DO its not a system I collect for or give a damn about so its gone. Now the money I got for it when to some quality titles I do like.
Oh and don't bother with xizer he's "hardcore".

ive always been of the opinion that your collection works for you, not vice versa, and it should always make you happy.
if youre looking at your nes games and thinking "id rather own and play neo geo stuff" then go for it. think about which games are most fun for you to play (and/or collect) and go with those.
if i were you and had that many nes games, id go for neo geo, thats me personally, cause id only want like 20 nes games, nothing else means much to me and i know that i wouldnt even play those, neo geo is much nicer and still extremely fun to play today.

I'm with the opinion in the last two posts.
Are you a collector...or an accumulator? LOL

I've trade'd up, or down if you like.
I only keep the ones I like and hold the test of time for me. If I put up a system and pull it out a few years later and it's Mec to me? Then it's outta here! :2gunfire:

My viewpoint is you are normally one of two things, a collector or a gamer. A collector is just that, they collect. Good, bad, ugly, they try to get complete collections and ultra rare items like sealed games. A gamer wants to play his collection often. I for one can’t buy sealed items; I’d want to open them. I had a complete Aladdin Game Enhancer sealed and it drove me nuts. It sat on my gaming shelf for months and I finally sold it. Why? Because I did not want to ruin a collector’s item and knew that given long enough, I would have.
Granted, there are the hybrid people who both collect and play but for the most part, when you have over 500 NES games (or a high amount for any system) I doubt you really play any of them.

complete and utter bullshit
i have ~1000 games right now and my future plans will lead to a collection of way over 10k but i'm still gaming A LOT, whenever i have the time to play something, i will do so. Of course there's a lot of crap games in there i'll never play through or even play at all, but i'm still a gamer and in fact most of the collectors still game a lot, i'd say only about 5-10% absolutely focus on the collecting aspect.

Let them go! I got rid of around 100 Atari 2600 carts including rares and it got me a consolized MVS setup among other things. I got rid of a 7800 setup once I realized I wasn't into it. I also sold my Lynx setup to get into Neo Geo Pocket.
That being said, I still have a 3DO and Jaguar, even though I don't play them very much.
If you like it, keep it. If it's just a checkbox in your collection and you don't even like the system that much, sell it...
My 2 cents...

God money for a AES collection, I would say no to that. Keep your NES collection! If you sell your NES collection for the AES, you won't get enough money. ;)

I've never sold my consoles to get another console or games but I have traded. A friend I went to college with had a TG16 and for at least 5yrs I had wanted it and offered him some serious money for it w/no success what so ever.
My big break finally came I had a minty fresh Sega Saturn modle 1, you could even still smell the newness on it. It had the works box, plastic bags for it and all it's accessories, and all those pamphlets that came w/it. True I still had/have my original Saturn in complete near mint condition and another modded Saturn in very good condition but they're both modle 2. I also took one of my spare master systems as well, i offered him both consoles an all the duplicate games i had for both just to get his TG16 w/it's games. The almost total newness of the Saturn killed him and he broke.
I'm a huge fan of the Saturn and still to this day I haven't aquired another modle 1 and I doubt I'll ever get a shot at another one in that condition, but I wanted that TG16. I don't miss my Saturn or my Master System. They weren't getting played, however the TG16 is getting played and it's loved. If you really want something you've got to go for it.

Get rid of them, and get the more exspensive Neo stuff you really want.
It seems that Neo games and hardware only go up in price, while NES stuff fluctuates according to whatever fad the pop culture posers are into at the time.
If you regret selling your NES stuff 6 months from now, just take solice in knowing that the people who are collecting "retro" games because it's cool, will get bored with it, and all the stuff will be dirt cheap again like it was in the mid 90's.

I personally would NEVER sell even small parts of my collection, which cost so much effort and money to build up inthe first place.
