The name might not be immediately recognisable, but his software company Access, founded along with his brother Roger, and their many hits durings the 80s such as Leaderboard, Beach-Head and Raid Over Moscow, will be.
Sadly I heard from a friend today that Bruce had passed away about a week ago from cancer, aged 57. He only found out days before he died apparently. Sucky way to go there. Thanks Bruce for all the great games you provided.

Damn, that sucks. He was a computer gaming pioneer. I spent many hours as a kid playing his games on the C64.

Man, that's sad. I spent many hours playing Beach Head and Raid Over Moscow.
Wow, that is sad news.
Better get 'Echelon' out for my C-128 and start playing.

It's sad that he died so young, but at least it didn't take long. I'd prefer to go that way then to know a year ahead of time that you're all done.

Beach Head...legendary name, recall seeing advertisements for Beach Head 2K and also playing a DOS clone called Night Raid. Fantastic stuff. Beach Head 2002 is out as well, though before downloading you might want to read the IGN and AVault (http://www.avault.com/reviews/review_temp.asp?game=bh2k2) reviews. Infogrames has picked up the property.
Sad to hear the man's passed on; these titles made a real mark on the scene.
Edit: Beach Head 2K2 is horrible; don't waste your time on it. Time to find the original game, I think!

Exactly what I was gonna say. I would want to go that was as well. KNowing your days are numbered has a mixed reaction either you go bananas and do everything you haven't or you live in fear wating for the day to come.

I can't count the endless amount hours I spent on my C-64 playing Beach-Head. That game to this day is still one of the best games for the C-64. It's tragic that he died so young and from such a terrible disease. My thoughts go out to his family. RIP Bruce Carver.
