Hey everybody,

Well recently I broke down and bought an Xbox. I pretty much gave up on "modern" gaming after the Saturn died. I'd purchased every Nintendo y Sega machine from NES to Saturn but after my beloved SS developement was canned by the penis-licking Bernie Stolar I kind of gave up. I was very underhwlemed by the PS1 although I love the N64. I've played all the new consoles extensively (except 360) and was mostly disappointed. Then came Halo 2. I just have to say this is the best FPS ever made. But I guess everyone already knows this. My bro has had this game for a long time and I'd played it extensively. This Christmas I went on eBay and bought an Xbox from a fellow Nebraskan. It included the system, two small controllers, Xbox Live headset and 25 games for $220. Did I get a good deal? I think so. Anyway, I was very exicted to be able to test out a large amount of new games. Doom 3 was the one I had the highest hopes for. Unfortunately while Doom 3 is Ok, it's not a killer app like U Doom and Doom II were (are). In fact, after I played 3 for about 45 minutes I found myself playing Doom II again which is included on the Doom 3 disc. Also, the Doom 3 Xbox Live experience was extremely boring after Halo 2. So, 1 game down, 24 more. I tested all the other games except Fable which I heard is awesome. I didn't find a single other game that held my interest. More disappiontment. I was pretty bent but of course when I fired up H2 and started to rumble I no longer cared as much. What I do care about though is finding some more Halo-caliber games. Battlefield II has been recommended and I'm going to check that one out already. To give an idea of what I'm looking for, I like these games:

Halo 2
Ninja Gaiden
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Mario Kart DD
Gauntlet Legends

This is the full list of games that came with the Xbox. Most sucked or were boring and I didn't like them:

Doom 3
Halo (Good but too old)
Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Dead or Alive 3
Burnout 3: Takedown
ESPN NFL 2K5
Secret Weapons Over Normandy
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Hitman: Contracts
NASCAR 2005: Chase For The Cup (This one is pretty fun)
Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix
BMX XXX
Simpsons: Road Rage (Fun for 20 mins., Crazy Taxi ripoff)
Fable (Supposed to be great)
Crimson Skies
NCAA Football 2005
Crash: Wrath of Cortex
MVP Baseball 2004
True Crime: Streets of LA
NCAA Football 2004
Bloodwake
NBA Live 2005
NCAA Football 2006
Xbox Music Mixer

Out of all those games I got I'm only keeping Fable. Everything else is lackluster. Can anyone recommend some Xbox games that aren't so fuggen lame? It was worth the system purchase just to play Halo 2 online but WTF, there's got to be some good games out there!

For the second thing, what's the deal with modding the Xbox? I understand the concept but not too much about the application. What will it do for me? I don't need to be able to play copied games. What I do want to do is be able to play my SMS, Genesis, SNES and Sega CD roms on my Xbox. Do I need to mod the system to be able to do this? Is there any other compelling reason why I should mod my Xbox?

Thanks in advance everybody!!!

P.s. I accidentally won two copies of Halo 2 from eBay. Both are brand new sealed so I have an extra copy. I need to get $25 shipped for it if anyone needs one please let me know so I don't have to put it back on eBay.

I'll freely admit that I stopped reading that crap when you referred to someone as a penis licker, but perhaps you should just look at the thread for the best XBOX games.

So how do you know he is a penis licker?
I am confused....Is it a rumour? Were you there?

Was it you?

How nice of you to take a tiny piece of opinion from a post and make a big deal about it. I've never heard anyone say anything nice about Stolar and I was expressing my intense dislike for him as background to my perpective. Sorry if I offended the resident penis-lickers.

Why does everyone else really like Burnout 3 or something?

You will buy Outrun 2, and you will love it. Now.

Other suggestions:
Crazy Taxi 3
House of the Dead 3 (Make sure you get a gun. It also includes HotD2.)

Well yea, but Bernie Stolar had testicle breath, so I think it's fair to say he was a penis licker even if he never came out and said, "I leik teh cock".

Why does everyone else really like Burnout 3 or something?

Because Burnout 3 is just a fan-fucking-tastic arcade racer. The soundtrack isn't as dynamic as the second game, which was a real downer (the unfortunate side effect of having the "OMG LICENSED MUSIC LOLZ"), but everything else was just taken to 11. Extremely fun driving physics, satisfying crashes, excellent courses, and when you just need a break from it all, there's crash mode.

It's fun as hell to edge people into oncoming traffic, and even when you fuck up and wind up getting taken down, it's still fun because then you can attempt to score an aftertouch takedown followed by a revenge takedown afterwards. Long story short: shit blows up.

Looks like it deserves another chance. I haven't sold it yet so I'm going to boot it up real quick.

BTW, what's wrong w/high school? After college you have to get a real job and all sorts of other "responsibilities". High school years were the golden years IMO. Do a little homework (or not) then it's babes, basketball, bongs and Bomberman!

You know, we must've accidentally skipped over this game because just now is the first time I've played it. I'm glad I made this thread becuase otherwise a so far great game would've been sold. It's just like you said, awesome game, bad music. Fortunately you can turn it off and just hear the sound effects which are extremely realistic and clear. Thanks for the heads-up!!

A little update...this game is fun but after playing it for a while there are some things about it I've begun to hate. As stated before, the music sucks. I can get over that. The thing that I can't overlook is the game's need to re-explain itself over and over. *Every single time* you play the race mode (that is every time you turn the Xbox on) the goof-ass announcer goes "blah blah blah...rules...blah...I just need a few minutes of your time..blah blah". Now I'm not going to pretend my time is extremely valuable but this is completely unnecessary and overly annoying. It also does this for the crash mode. I can tell already it's going to keep me from playing this game, knowing if I want to race every time I turn on the box I have to listen to a two-minute tutorial. Unfortunately a pretty fun game that I was going to keep is going back into the "eBay" pile. Sad... Still, thanks for the heads-up about BO3 guys.

My all time favorite game on Xbox 1 is Need for Speed: Underground, the very first one. Well, I also have to give Halo and Halo 2 is props as well, as well as a bunch of other games. But the first NFS:U rocks big time on Xbox. Of course a big part of it is playing it on a HDTV in 480p.

For whatever reason, I just think that the game plays perfectly, and looks amazing. The wet streets and the downtown city setting is just spectacular to me. I'm not a huge fan of NFS:U2 though. I didn't really like the 2nd game. But I'm telling you, the very first Underground for the XBOX rocks major. I also agree with the other guy that mentioned Outrun 2. Talk about pure fun factor with Outrun 2.

Burnout 3. Keep it. Trust me on that. It's a great game.

Outrun 2; if you didn't like Burnout 3 in the first 10 minutes, then you won't like Outrun 2 immediatly either. I never really liked it that much, but instant gratification it is not. You gotta work on the drifting like a mofo.

Halo 2 was really the only game I played for my Xbox asides from Burnout 3 and Fable. I'd personally sell Fable and get Fable: the Lost Chapters. Fable's a great game, and more content = pure sex.

Also pick up Ninja Gaiden Black if you enjoyed Ninja Gaiden.

But shit, if you don't like Doom 3 or Burnout 3, then you really should just go play with sticks or something.

I though DOOM 3 was only ok. Nothing new just nice eye candy.

You know I was never trying to say anything bad. You tried Burnout 3 and thought it was okay. You should think a bit more before you just say something. I mean you can't play a game for 10 mintues and judge it.

BTW stop saying "Penis Licker"

I'm assuming this is directed at me even though I'm not sure what you're talking about. I never said you were saying anything bad. The only thing you said was "You didn't like Burnout 3" to which I replied "Why, does everyone else like it?". Anyhow if you had read the entire thread you would have seen the part where I thanked everyone for recommending Burnout 3 because out of the 25 games I had accidentally skipped over and not even played it. Last night was the first time I've ever played it and it is a fun game except for the bullshit tutorials you have to watch every time you play. And yes parts of Doom 3 look great but it moves slowly and can't touch Halo 2. Or Halo 1 for that matter. It's just boring. Doom II is more fun, it moves faster, there's more enemies and you don't have to screw around for 10 minutes just to get to the first enemy. It takes about 10 seconds and you're rockin'. More thanks to everyone, I will definitely be trying Outrun 2, Ninja Gaiden Black and probably the second Fable.

BTW, if you can't stand the heat...get out of the thread

What about either of the Battlefront games? If you like any RPG's what about Knight of the Old Republic? Both of the Mech Assault games are pretty good. Pariah or Area 51 are both decent FPS games as well as Half Life 2.

There are some crap games on your list, like BMX XXX, but there is the Tony Hawk games if you would like to try something of that sort that is actually good.

You seemed a little mad when you said.....

"How nice of you to take a tiny piece of opinion from a post and make a big deal about it."

So I though I pissed you off. I didn't mean to cause any problems. I did read through the forum and misunderstood what you were talking about for that I appologize.

No hard feelings I will edit my post :)

Yeah I did say that but it was in response to Cuewarrior's reply which had little to do with the original post. Then monantony jumped in and fanned the flames which caused me to reply as such. Check out the chronology, it's actually pretty funny. And of course, no hard feelings.

Cool.

and back on topic one game that no Xbox owner deserves to miss is Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay.

This is a great game despite the fact that it is based off of a awful movie. it almost is Halo calibur. The graphics, audio, everything about the game is fantastic. In the game the whole idea is to escape from this prison. Simple concept at first but it just keeps going and you just want to keep playing it. It has a lot of fun gun-play but it truly shines with the incredible hand to hand combat and even though the game doesn't offer multiplayer it is way more exciting and entertaining then most games today. Best of all it can be found for like $15.
