ok i was going through adding games and systems to my collection list and i got to my playstation games and when i went to add the system i noticed there were 2, one for dual shock and one for regular... i have a dual shock edition but unlike the one described here (http://www.digitpress.com/DP/cmf/game.cmf?gameid=25449) mines a dual shock with a paraelle port in the back (i rember i needed it for my mod cart to play imports).....

now mines in a brushed aluminum looking box and i rember the ones that had clouds on the box did not have the port...right?

is the PSX like mine, dual shock w/ the paraelle port in the back rarer than the others?

not really, the one i got back in late 98 witht the brushed aluminum had the I/O port too. it seems all the 99 and up one had them removed.

If I recall correctly...

There are actually two variants with the brushed aluminum (or 'steel' box as I call it). The original versions still has the parallel port on them with the dual shock. Then they re-released it without the port in the same box (I think it was series 7000 to 7500).

Then finally the watery box came out as series 9,000, with no port and the final revision of the system board.

I have an SCPH-7501 PlayStation manufactured May 1999; it came in a faux brushed aluminum box with a dual shock and has a parallel port. I don't think they're that uncommon though I'd love to be wrong!

I'll see about changing it and it'll reflect in the next update.

Well, just to add a bit more, all PS1 [small model, white, you know what I mean] did come bundled with a white dual shock. Not grey.

And of course the PS1 doesn't have a parallel port, or reset button, and the BIOS is changed, etc etc

You're not wrong. SCPH-7001 and SCPH-7501 are very similar (box-wise) and are the first models to have dual shock. The SCPH-9001 did away with the parallel port as well as the PSone versions (and has the blue cloudy box). SCPH-1001 and SCPH-5501 were not dual shock and did not have what you call the brushed alluminum boxes. You can see thumbnails of the boxes mentioned above at ww.playstationmuseum.org. I didn't post links to bigger pictures yet and info about each (that's forthcoming).

Yep, the 5501 came in the red box in July of 97. I remember it well. It's the one I still have.

ok dokie, not a big deal but just for accuracys sake...

so PS1 Expert, was hoping you'd drop in a little sooner to be honest but...i am guessing it all seems in order now but about how many PSX's with a paraelle port came in a dual shock bundle?

I've been busy. :)

Only the scph-7001 and scph-7501 came out with the dual shock controllers and had the parallel port (in the US). All newer models had the parallel port removed (scph-9001 and scph-101/141)
