View Full Version : Why is Phoniex Wright on DS in such demand lately?

It was removed from the capcom.com site and Ebay prices on the rise lately.
What's the story behind this? Limited qaunity? Didn't sell so well perhaps?

I have no idea, but now I'm definitely buying this on my last day at Blockbuster. Might buy both copies we've got.

I haven't been able to find a copy in Texas. I've been to malls, best buys, circuit cities, it just doesn't seem to exist here.

From what I hear it is a great game My new resolution this year and from now on is to sit back and let the hype consume itself and pick it up when the price drops. After the toys r us clearance I realized that I have to let the rare htf games of the past be just that.
In this new day and age I realized that the Hype of quick production and reprints and supposedily limited runs are just hog wash. If you cant find it now you will soon and at a better price. Possibly like castlevanias 2 in 1 cart aria of sorrow and harmony of d.
Lets see doom3, mech assault le, oddworld strangers, and re4 for 40.00 I could have saved 160.00.
Well enough of the rant I take it day to day only 361 days left.

There's been a lot of evidence and reason to believe it's been discontinued, though no reason or even confirmation has been given. It's a shame if it's true, though...it's a great game.

There's three reason's why the price is climbing.
The game was underproduced.
The game is incredible.
The game give you great value for you're money. It's long as all hell.
Capcom never expected it would take off the way it did.

It is a really well done game, I love it. For me at least, it has the same feel of Deja Vu in some parts. I got this for christas, so I pretty much got it for free!
Since then I havnt seen it anywhere...
Oh, and I hear the japanese version has an english mode, so if this game (and believe me, thats a big if) becomes scarce, It could be in demand on both sides of the pacific.
Lastly, was there a PAL release at all?

Yep, gonna have to rent this one again.

We're lagging behind on that one (nothing new there!) - due out in March apparently.

I picked up the last copy they had at the doomed Media Play store near my apartment, the day they dropped videogames to a 40% discount, so I paid around $18 for it. I haven't seen it anywhere else around here, either.
It's a great game, and long so far - also funny. The witness threw his toupee' at me.

Read a quote by Marilyn Manson recently where he said he loved his DS and played a lot of Mario Kart DS and Phoenix Wright ("this japanese lawyer game"). Pretty amusing.
I have read so much positive about this game that I must have it, and I think a lot of people think the same!

When I was at GameCrazy with my friend the other day, my friend asked if they had Lost in Blue, and the manager said they didn't because 'Atlus is refusing to restock DS games'
So, I'm guessing the Atlus games are in very limited quanity themselves. Damnit, I'd better get Snowboard Kids DS next time I see it...

Funny cause Lost in Blue is a Konami game. Guess the employee's aren't as knowledgable as they use to be.
I'm starting to feel really lucky that i bought Pheonix Wright, Trauma Centre and Lost in Blue when i had the chance.

Been putting off getting this one too long.
This is another one of those games that I seem to see everywhere until someone posts a "hey, whats up with the price of this game" type post and it vanishes from store shelves everywhere :)
Luckily, picked it up today at Gamestop used - mint and complete for $19.99. I recommend using their search feature on their website to check stock on your local stores. I found one out of about a dozen stores that had it and they held it for me til I could grab it after work.

I used Gamestop's search feature, but the only store that had one listed claimed not to have any. EB will do a similar search for you if just call them. That's what I did, and I picked one up at the only store left in the region that had a copy. Glad I saw this thread because I had been wanting this game for awhile, but hadn't gotten around to getting it.

If you're talking about AlphaCraze, they suck a cock. I bought a VHS copy of Chungking Express from them about five years ago, and although they advertised it as new and sealed, it came a sticker-covered ex-rental.
Since I'm on the subject, I'd (seriously) estimate that about half of the orders I've placed with Amazon Marketplace sellers have gone wrong in some way (usually they won't have the item and will refund your money).

I very stupidly traded my copy after beating it once, and all of these hoarders are pissing me off. As such, I would like a replacement at a reasonable price... I hope to find one in my area (no Gamerush! :( ), and I'm not going through ebay to give some asshole double retail for a game I had 3 months ago.
Should I fail, if someone would find me a used complete Phoenix Wright, I'll at least give you my original complete FFVII to fuck the Advent Children fanboys with... (search ebay for final fantasy 7 to see what I mean!)

It was a great game (probably took me over thirty hours, although I have no way of knowing since they don't tell you how long you play it), but since it has no replay value, it was just sitting on my shelf. So I decided to sell it. Sold it for $55 shipped on eBay. :). But play it before you sell it, it's a really quality game,a nd even downright hard at some points.

I feel really lucky. I checked the in-store tracker on GameStop and saw that one store in my area had it... the same store that had it a week ago when I last checked, but went to the wrong one. I went to the store and snagged it for $18.00, along with a copy of Snowboard Kids and Chaos Fields for the GameCube ($29.99 per). It made my day!
Phoenix Wright is as excellent as I thought it would be, however it is too linear in a lot of it for my tastes. It makes you feel like an absolute genius when you figure out what is going on, but when you are faced with a difficult question, sometimes you just feel stupid. I'm in the middle of the second trial, and I played through part of it about ten times last night not being able to figure out how to get through it. I just looked it up in an FAQ and its a "duh, why didn't I think of that! Genius!" answer, but since there is only one...
Overall, for $18.00 and for being part of my collection now, it's definitely awesome :)

Wanted this game (sort of) but held off getting it for a while becasue it seemed that the replay value seemed low. But with constant nagging by the wife I ended up picking it up. Got mine at GameCrazy about a week ago for $29.99(plus tax). I still haven't got around to it yet. I'm still playing Trauma Center and Castlevania.

Out of curiosity, was the part you were stuck on the cross-examination of the guy after the prosecutor tells him to admit that he bugged the phone? Cuz that's where I'm stuck.

Yes, I agree, that is a very devious bit. While it does make for an effective dramatic statement, I hope there aren't any other moments like that elsewhere in the game.
If I didn't just give it away, here's the spoiler (highlight): Just review the testimony two or three times, do nothing, and the story will proceed.

No, it's where Gumshoe is being cross-examined about the murder and his "hard evidence." After having read through the FAQ, it's really obvious, but the hint that the game had given me right before that (If you don't know, press him on every bit of information!) is the exact opposite of what you want to do there, as the judge keeps yelling at you for asking stupid questions.

If you're looking for one in Milwaukee, the GameStop on 68th in the K*Mart / Allis Chalmers lot has one last one new, but not sealed. I almost bought it, but since I got the used one yesterday I really have no need for another copy, especially a full price opened "new" one.

Ooooh, I didn't realize how lucky I think I was.
I saw copies of Phoenix Wright at two stores near me before Christmas, but I didn't pick it up yet. I knew I was getting a DS for Christmas, and I didn't know what games I was getting yet, so I waited.
So I started searching for Phoenix Wright about a week ago. No luck at Best Buy, or the local game shop, or two Gamestops. Went to a bunch more places, and eventually I ended up at EB Games. They didn't have it there, but they did a computer search for me. Out of all the EB Games stores in the greater Orlando area, apparently there was one copy of Phoenix Wright left. So I asked them to hold it for me, and I drove about 30 minutes to claim my prize about three days ago. So I got one of the last copies of the game in my city, I think.
In fact, the game was actually on hold for someone else, but they took it off hold because that person never showed up. Their loss, my gain!
I had absolutely no idea there was a shortage. I hope it's a shortage simply because the game became more popular than they imagined, rather than a shortage because of discontinuation.
The game is AWESOME though. It was everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. Great mysteries to unfold, deductive reasoning, courtroom drama, lots of humor and great dialogue... As other people said though, the one problem is replay value. I don't know when I'll get around to playing it again, because I've already solved all the crimes. So... the incentive to play it a second time isn't that strong. Still, definitely worth the money. I can't see how anyone could NOT enjoy playing the game, at least once, unless they're illiterate or something.
I already have one, but there's one at my local Gamecrazy. Should I get it?

Yes. The big decision is whether to hold onto it or let it go now.
Well, I guess I'll buy it. I'll keep it for a good number of year wrapped.
