I never thought I would want to sell the games I have beaten but now Im not sure. What do you guys think? If ive beaten it 100% is there really a point to keep it? whats the point of collecting really? Im having some doubt here haha so feedback would be nice
thanks guys

I went through the same thing once, and believe me it's a mistake. I got rid of all of my GB games and ended up kicking myself because it was eventually a matter of time before I wanted to play them again, and I had to find them all again, and still can't find some.
Think back to when you played those games. If you had FUN playing a certain game, keep it. There will be a day years and years from now when you want to play it again, and when that day comes, you will hate yourself.
I dunno, I'm the kind of gamer who doesn't just get rid of a game once I beat it. I beat Ninja Gaiden II before I even baught it, but I baught it later anyways, and ended up playing it countless times anyways because it was so darn fun. Sure, you know what happens, you've seen and done it all before, but that's part of the allure of it.
Nostalgia can be powerful. This website/forum would not exist if it weren't for nostalgia. I keep all my games because of it.

You never know when you'll get the urge to go back and play those games. Even the crappy stuff, you'll sit and think, "Man, I haven't played that in a while."

If you have enjoyed the game, you'll probably end up buying it again in a couple year's time (I've done that SEVERAL times, unfortunately). Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

I agree with mr mort. Plus the older games are getting harder and harder to come and costing more.

Didn't think of it at first, but you're absolutely right. I often find myself playing average or downright bad games because they're associated with good memories from my childhood/teen years. Man, collectors really aren't wired like everybody else.

I agree. Ive played Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy 2 more times than I can count and I will play them again some day in the future. But with me, its about having the aiblity to play them when I want to. If the mood takes me to play a certain game, going out and trying to buy it almost always kills the mood. For example, in the summer I really wanted to play Resident Evil, but I never purchased 4. So I ended up playing Zero and getting pissed at the leech zombies. So, flash forward to last week when I purchased it from Gamecrazy for $16. I have it now, but have no desire to play it. But when I want to, I'll own it and can start immediately. That convenience drives me to collect every game I can find.
I got to this point with my NES games. One day while I was desperately trying to have fun with Metriod, I thought "Why do I still have these games?". I had hundreds of dollars in complete boxed NES games just collecting dust and I had no desire at all to actually play them. I just wanted to own them. Once I owned every game I had sentimental value for, the excitement was gone. I sold off my collection and have never regretted it. If/when I do get a little urge for nostalgia, I load up a NES emulator and get it out of my system by playing for a few minutes.
I have also considered selling off my current PS1/PS2 games that I have completed and will never, ever touch again (such as Ratchet & Clank). I decided that the value of these games is so low that it is safer just to keep everything

I've got games that I've beaten countless times, although you get tired of beating a certain title, keep it. As was said by previous posters you never know when you'll get that urge to want to go through a game again, an old game can be sentimental. I'm one for keeping everything gamewise I've bought, the only trade I ever did was Bayou Billy for SMB2, but I got more fun out of SMB2 than out of Bayou Billy (recently loaded the Bayou Billy rom and 1 credded it after over 10 years). One day I'll get BB again, if only for sentimental value.

depends how much you really like 'owning' the game. if you couldnt care less then sell it. if its something youve grown attached to, even if you'll never play it again, then you'll keep it.

is this really the right place to pose the question 'whats the point of collecting anyway?'?

Quite true!
I think Canadian Psycho sums it up quite nicely.
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

If you sell all your games after you beat them, your not really collecting them, are you? Your just playing them. Of coarse, some people think games are only good to be played, and some think they are only good to be collected.
You seem to be the first one, where I am the latter. It's a personal preference.

I as well have sold ALOT of games that I didnt think I would want after beating them, and yeah, I kicked myself in the nuts for doing that later on. Like I wish I still had the original games I had, not re-bought ones :(

I have some gaming nostalgia (only for Atari VCS and the Commodore 64) but even then it's only for a few select games (Adventure, Gateway to Apshai, Dragonstomper, Escape from the Mindmaster) I envy the hell out of you guys who got to play this stuff during the acres and acres of free time that represented your childhood/teen years/summervacations etc.
I "collect" for the purpose of exploring the experiences of playing the different games and creating some gaming nostalgia for my children to look back on. My son and daughter will have vivid memories of playing games on the 'Cube, 'Box and 'Station while at the same time they wil remember my putting them through the really old games (How many people know an 8 year old kid who has played 90% of the games that came out for the original Odyssey, RCA Studio II and Fairchild Channel F. Sure it's a form of child abuse, but he WILL have memories, maybe even some nostalgic ones because he played them with me.)
Collecting is its own "point". Accumulating and looking at a nice collection has a satisfaction to it for some people. If you don't have that satisfaction then get rid of the stuff you never play. If you played it to 100% completion, though, chances are that you liked it enough that you WILL want to play it again.

Here's what ya do... You buy the game, try to complete it within the first month or two. If you paid $50, you'll probably be able to ebay it for at least $40, plus shipping.
Then, 5 to 10 years down the road, you pick the same game up, complete, for ten bucks. Heck, with the way TRU has sales, you'll probably be able to pick it up new again for $15 one year down the line.

Yes, consider what Gamereviewgod said. I mean, recently I didn't want to even look at Super Metroid, but maybe I'd want to play it after thinking about how I'd beaten it (or hadn't). You always might want to boot it up for some sort of competition.
I'm just guessing, but you've got a lot of RPGs or linear action games, right? You might want to look into older point-based games...ones you can't beat. :)

I wouldn't be able to do that, despite it making sense financially. I like to be able to play games again, especially recent ones.
Another good reason, unless unopened copies are available cheaply, is that I take better care of my games than the average eBay game arrives in...

thanks guys for all the input
but just bear wiith me haha (i keep arguing with myself:/)
I 'm one of those perfectionist type of people haha. And I like the idea of something complete and what not. But I've been thinking about it and realized there is not enough time in my life to play all the games I want or money. So gahh I probably would regret selling it. but If I do keep them Im going to get angry I dont have them all or what not etc. I really am in some horrible mind decesion haha
sorry for the ranting on and on

I just start collecting Genesis games and so far I'm not comming to the point that I want to sell all my games. Mostly because I had to work my ass off to paid for my games, so that part will tell me to not sell any of my collection.
