That's right kids, according to Peter Moore Street Fighter II is coming to the Live marketplace. Proof that the Live Arcade is a great innovation.

Proof that the Live Arcade is a great innovation.

How is it an innovation when this game has seen more re-releases than every other game in history combined?

Haha, I win!

And so far, today is a good day. This is most excellent news I say! And I'm happy, just because I'm getting my SF on my 360.

That was some sweet ninja fast posting action njiska. Way sweet.

Exactly what I was thinking. Dont get me wrong, thats really awesome, but it is certainly FAR from innovation. They didn't invent online gaming, as everyone seems to think they did.

They've just perfected it on the 360.

I'll go so far that Live via the 360 has been the biggest leap in the total gaming experience since the analog stick.

Of course people are going to say that they don't play games online, and, well, that's their loss.

Doubtful...

In any case, I don't recall any other system having downloadable games, with the exception of the BS-X Satellaview...

I wouldn't even say that. I would say that they brought it to the masses though, so they deserve credit for that. PC gaming has, and always will (hopefully) be the king of online gaming. Until a PC and a gaming console become the same thing, that is.

I agree, PC gaming will remain as the king of online gaming, but I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with Live.

I've been compeitively playing online since Quake, X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter, Doom, etc, so I've played a little. But, I just got Live when I picked up my 360, and I was blown away. I don't know what exactly is so impressive about it, but I just think its a great online service.

The primarly reason why the online PC gaming experience is substandard to XBox Live (via the 360) is because it's not unified.

Sure, Battlefield 2 online is great. Excellent even. Lots of stat tracking, player tracking, and an all around satifying experience. But it's only for Battlefield 2. What if I like Painkiller online? Why can't I get the same experience?

Sure, Gamespy TRIED to do something similar, but that bulkware infested portal is clumsy, tired, and broken. Not to mention the total lack of features that MS gives you out of the box (Xbox Live Silver).

Microsoft took a look at the lines in the sand that have been dividing the online gaming experience since the days of Sierra's Imagination Network and erased it. And all glory to them for doing so. Continue to add the bevy of features offered via Live Gold (achievements, leaderboards for every game, a slick and simple interface, a solid reputation system, gamer zones, live arcade) and it's not just superior, it's absolutely unmatched.

To continue to sing the praises of online play via the PC in lieu of Live is at best obtuse and at worst grossly ignorant.

Well I guess I have the same feelings since I've been playing Street Fighter Anniversary on Xbox live for the past year or so (and getting my butt kicked in general) LOL

But yeah how would this be much different than that other than being another iteration?

Except for, you know, the original XBox, with Live Arcade. ;-)

Yes, that's often forgotten.

And please i'm not saying that SFII is going to be innovative, that statement would be criminally insane.

I'm saying the Live Market Place and Live Arcade (Original Era included) are great innovations. SFII is proof of this because it was one of the top requested titles and now it's here. We've reached a point of ask and ye shall receive and SFII is a testement to that fact.

I honestly forgot. Not a Live guy. I guess it stands out (even if you still have to pay for the downloads) because the Arcade is hard to miss as everybody gets a Silver sub who buys a 360.

The only problem I have with online gaming generally is that the more games that are released that support it, the thinner the spread of gamers across the board. If you're not playing a game soon after launch, interest in playing it online (Live or whatever) soon wanes. I remember my first online game when I first got my Xbox - Out Run 2 and nobody about to play it with. :(

Obviously this wouldn't be too much of a problem if I was into FPS games but I'm not - I'd rather play stuff like Out Run 2, Bicycle Casino, Snooker etc.

You mean grammar? ;) *ducks for cover*

OT: I swear, every single Street Fighter variant will be online before they get back to Alpha 3.. the one that (other than maybe Third Strike) deserves it the most. It's driving me nuts!

This is really cool news. The thing I find really cool about all these new re-releases and pretty innovative is the fact that they incorporate live play. Pretty bad ass feature. Pretty soon I shall be picking up a few arcade games my co-workers have for some old school arcade online action ;D.

meh I don't think Live is that big of an innovation

I mean it's decent but I would long before play most PC games online before most of the xbox games.

heck to say pc gaming is not as good online as live because it's not unified is just a wrong statement

partially because there's no possible way you can unify PC games in general online.

but also I would rather play any other pc game online than any console games at the moment.

Live is an interesting thing but I still stand by my statement that xbox live is good for the most part but the main good thing about it is easily the arcade and marketplace and even than it's still not worth it IMO because you have to pay for each arcade game but I do like the fact that they have the ability to play against others. so i really dunno

but I do like the fact that Street Fighter 2 is coming out on it. I would prefer Street Fighter Alpha 3 but it's all good

To continue to sing the praises of online play via the PC in lieu of Live is at best obtuse and at worst grossly ignorant.

like I said before online play via the PC is and always will be better on the PC until basically consoles and PC come together

but to say that PC games online interfaces are bad look at battle.net which has been around longer and IMO is still better than Live

Live has a ways to go before it will compare with PC gaming online.

As long as lag exists, online action games will be broken and frustrating, regardless of how much fun they are.

LAN gaming is still the king of multiplayer gaming setups, even though only geeks like me are into it.

Nice.

Now do the same for SSF2x, Alpha 2, and the Darkstalkers games.

Alpha 2 > Alpha 3

I don't have an X-Box but this is actually good news. Bring back a classic fighter to show people where it all started from, so to speak.

Shoryuken is reporting that the SF2 game in question is Hyper Fighting(My fav!) and that it'll feature a spectator mode, and an arcade style queue.
