So my friend got a boot disc for his ps2, and we want to try out Altered Beast, as it never came stateside.
Does the European game work on an american system using a boot disc? I'm assuming the japanese one does, but Europe would probably be in a legible language.

Id think the only problem you may encounter would be the whole PAL/NTSC video signal thing, which they sell converter boxes for.
Then again, some PAL games have a way to switch the Regional video output. Id look some more into the game, try a UK review site, they may give you some help.
Altered Beast is such shit on PS2. I have the Japanese version. I think i'm going to go smash it.

I like it, but its kind of gay, cause the guy you control wears a really tiny swimsuit. Great motivation though to power up into a monster when ever possible.

i would have bought it from him, but i'd rather have an english language (pal i assume) version. i'd take it if it was dirt cheap, though.
The PAL version has a 60hz mode (most of Sega's PS2 games do) so it should work (on PS2, 60hz mode is actually ntsc).

So we're all on the same page, is this the fancy 3D Altered Beast that had a big banner at e3 a few years back, or the Sega Ages version?

It's the new, 3d one.

NO!
You don't wanna get this game.
It's pure shit.....purer than pure...unbelieveable crap.
It's already bad when a pS2 game looks(in some areas at least) worse than a badlooking N64 game but the prob with "Altered Beast"(for PS2) is that it also plays like crap.
Absolutly boring trash which makes "Astroboy"(the PS2 version....again x_x ) looking like a shining software jewel.
And what the heck did the developers thought when they included tons of gore and blood in the game?
get the PC engine version instead....it's so hard, you will need months to get through.Better than genesis ver IMO.

So not the Sega Ages one, then.
Oh, what's this?

January 28, 2005 - Topping off the list of the signs that a game may potentially suck is the move that Sega pulled on Altered Beast for the PS2.
Argh. Well, one of these days, there'll be a proper Altered Beast sequel...mark my words.
Or not. Hmm, I'll wait for that Shenmue-not-alike.
