I got a Saturn yesterday off of Freecycle and it only has an RF cable with it. I was wondering what a/v cables are available for it? Are there component cables cables for? I've seen scart cables. Is that something similar to component? Are there any universal cables with a saturn connector?

I know about the battery that keeps power for the internal memory. How much space is on that? I've also heard the official memory carts are kind of hard to find. Should I get one of those action replay devices? I heard that those also have a save function.

You can get s-video, scart, j-RGB, and plain old composite cables, but no component.

If you need a memory card, I think lik-sang still sells some cheap multi-purpose carts.

I'd recommend to get official backup memory carts off eBay...
you can use JPN cart as there's no difference and those are dirt cheap... I don't think it'd be wise to use 3rd party carts on Saturn's cart slot as it's not of such high quality - i.e. not so durable.

for AV cables, remember Saturn came out way before HDTV era so there'd be no YUV cable though you can use RGB->YUV transcoder to convert RGB signal into Component though we are talking $130+ for the transcoder alone here... :p

You may also want to pick up 4-1+ import cart as it will let you play other region titles as well as it will act as 1MB and 4MB RAM expansion carts...

enjoy!

It looks like I'll be going with the SVideo cable then. I might get that 4-in-1 cart, but I'd rather have the official. I was thinking of doing the import mod, so I wouldn't really need the action replay cart.

If you can, try to get the offical Sega S-Video cable, it's amazingly high quality for S-Video and is usually only $1 or $2 more.

Know any good places to find the official cables? I'd much rather get those than the third party ones.

I thought the official Sega S-video cables would be better too, but they're not. I have the official and a 3rd party cable...there is no difference in video quality that I can see.

If you want to pay $10-20 for offical cables, you can find them on ebay from time to time. They're usually Japanese, but obviously work on all Saturn models.

The generic 3rd party cables should only run you $3-5 and are found much more readily. Your choice.
