View Full Version : PSP won't play a certain UMD movie...any ideas?

I recently sold a factory sealed Evil Dead UMD movie on ebay. I just got an e-mail from the winner saying that the movie will absolutely not play on his PSP. He says that he has about ten movies and four games and nothing else has ever given him problems. I originally bought the movie at Best Buy and never got around to opening it, so I know it's not scratched or anything.

Would anybody have any idea on what could be happening here? I'm afraid that this guy is somehow going to blame me for this and file a Paypal chargeback. x_x

Region coding is the first thing I'd be suspicious of. Was the movie a region 1 (US) disc? Is he using a Japanese PSP or something?

Then there's always the possibility that it's just a defective copy or a bad pressing or something.

What's his feedback like? Are you sure he isn't scamming you?

He might need to update his firmware.

He can't do a paypal chargeback. You can only file a claim if you never received the item NOT if the item you received was not in the condition to your liking. If he tries to you just have to prove that you shipped it or it was delivered.

But anywho if he wants a refund tell him to send it back to you, no ifs, ands or buts.

My guess is the guy needs to update his firmware. You would think this would be obvious to the buyer. Ask him specifically if the UMD shows up in the PSP menu or if the PSP acts like nothing is in the drive.

On a side note...I've sold hundreds of items on eBay over the last 6 years and the ONLY time I have problems is with people who buy video games. Why is that? I've been thinking lately that it's almost worth my while to start selling my games to Gamestop or Gamecrazy, etc...because your average eBay video game buyer is usually some 13 yr old moron using their parents credit card. At least that's been my experience (several times).

This is the exact reason I recently traded in my PSP to blockbuster instead of selling it on ebay. You get a little less but ten times more convenient.
By the way, I apologise for posting off topic. I hope your issue gets resolved with the least amount of hassle.

I would say the most notable factors would either be he's using it on a different region psp

or it's a faulty disk which can happen to

but yeah I would get him to send it back to you if he's demanding a refund

I just sent him an e-mail with everyone's suggestions and told him that he can get his money back if he sends it back to me first (he hasn't asked for a refund though...yet). I got worried because he asked me if I knew that it didn't work. (Why yes, I used my magic powers to peer through the shrinkwrap and test out the UMD in my brain. x_x )

I'll post an update if anything else comes out of this.

Does the PSP have parental control settings like DVD players do?
