I really need to clean out space in the closet, so it's time to let my Sonic Saturn go. Pictured is the actual system. It comes complete with controller box, composite cable, power cable, manual, and Xmas Nights. The box has been stretched some, but isn't bad. As you can tell from the photo, the unit has yellowed quite a bit. As far as I know, these Sonic Units have a bad problem with yellowing so you could be hardpressed to find a minty white one. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. The manual has a crease or two on it.

I rarely do this, but I'm taking bids as this is something I really don't want to put a price tag on. Bid as low as you want, but I will ignore anything ridiculously low. I assume the bids will start around $200. Just a hunch. I'll post the highest bids intermittently. I'll go ahead and set the final bid for Wednesday evening. No specific time really. The item will ship out probably the following Monday, due to my shitty schedule. Note that I'll be posting this at Assembler as well.

Questions here, bids by PM.
I'll ship anywhere and by whatever method the buyer wants, at his expense.

If you really think this is worth it for him, I'll call him.

lol, I love you guys, I'll post soon again on whether I want this or not.

The yellowing is what sorta kills this for me, but I'll think

Well, at least I'm honest about it. :)
Seriously though, I've only seen a couple of these, and none were shiny white. dj898 is much more familiar w/ these units than I am...perhaps he can jump in here and shine some light.

You don't happen to know why they yellow, do you? I've got a normal white Saturn, and I've had no problems with that.

Hmm. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. :-P Probably won't win it, since I have to save up for Japan in September. Bleh.

Carey, if you get this, I'm stealing it. :D

It's likely due to the environment it's kept in. Probably not his fault at all. Factors like humidity, dust, and smoke can change the color of an item.

"Land of the Rising Sun" <--- no pun intended. That's why white systems tend to yellow out easily overseas. Plus it could have been in a smoking home since cigg smoking is extremely common in Japan.

*edit* looks like I was beat by 2 mins to answer your question properly...oh well...

Smoke is definitely a culprit, but I don't think so in this case. Look at the lid -- the lid is fine, but hte unit is not. Besides, I've had a white Saturn that I bought used, and used myself for about 5 or 6 years in Japan, and it looks fine to this day -- sitting right here in my room now. I think it's the unit I had when I smoked like a chimney too, which throws the smoke theory out.

It depends on the type of plastic used. The lid is probably a different plastic type or slightly different color (maybe indiscernable), thus it doesn't yellow at the same speed. Or, perhaps the lid was treated with something and the rest of the shell was not.

I've seen many other Sonic Saturns - they were all white, yours is yellow because of the environment that been kept it(you're the original owner??), its worth at least $200, whats the current price??

No, I'm not the original owner. I picked it up used. I'm sure if you kept it in the box, it'd be white -- most people would not have done this though. The reason I think it's an issue w/ the unit is that the lid is fine... that, and I've seen at least three other units in the same state. Not saying one could not be perfect, but I think it's safe to say they have a tendency to yellow. A shame, actually.

No actual bids yet -- only inquiries.

No serious bids yet, and tomorrow is the last day. Just a reminder.

A complete shame I just got a brand new Skeleton This is Cool... because this Sonic one would be one of the few Saturns I would be missing and right now I'm dead dry... I have a not so yellowed shell I could swap and make it look much better.

Good Luck!
